I'm a "train-a-holic" myself. I've traveled over 250,000 km by train since 1955 when I rode in a Parlor car behind a steam engine between Montreal-Ottawa. I've taken The Canadian 51x since 1964 plus spent entire month of May 1987 in Australia traveling by train including the Indian-Pacific both ways. I also spent 2 weeks traveling in UK June 1990 when BritRail still existed. BTW the trip Toronto-Vancouver only took 67 hours up until the 1980s.

Thanks for the journey! We will be taking this same train after an Alaskan cruise then taking Amtrak back to Florida.

You will love it! After being on both Amtrak and Via, Via just sets the bar really high. What time of year will you be riding?
@mike4jewel4 ай бұрын
July. Unfortunately no snow for beauty, fortunately not -25 degrees.

Thanks! I really enjoyed that. I'll be taking a shortened return trip, starting and ending in Edmonton, over Christmas 2024. I board on Christmas eve and return home late on New Year's Eve. I can't wait!

Hi Kyle….did you book your trip through an agent? I want to take the same trip as you did but I have no idea of how to go about it, I have no experience of travelling by train. I love your videos.
@KyleLovesTrainsАй бұрын
No, I did not use an agent. I just booked it all over the phone. It is also very easy to do over the internet as well. I recommend booking as far ahead of time as you can to ensure the best selection of available cabins. If you are a CAA or AAA member you can save 10% on cabins or 20% on berths. Just know your dates ahead of time and call the Via call center or book right online. Sign up for Via Rail preference points collector before you book. Good luck! 114 more days until our next roundtrip on the Canadian!

@ Thank you Kyle for replying so quickly and for your advice……we are going to make a call this week to book a return trip. Not sure how long to stay in Vancouver but since we are retired we are very flexible. Thanks again, Heather

I was in Vancouver in May. Love the city but it is so expensive. Would love to do this train journey. I was here for an Alaskan cruise all the way from Australia 🇦🇺

Both great videos going east and westbound on the Canadian Kyle After watching both of your videos, I’m glad I picked the westbound journey next month That way, the anticipation can build all the way across Canada and save the best part for last. The crossing of the Rocky Mountains heading into Jasper and eventually into Vancouver

You made a wise choice, you could feel the excitement coming from everyone build as we got closer to the mountains. It really was a much more fun direction to take. It was sad to have to say goodbye when we all went our separate ways at our final destination. Hope you have an amazing trip and I can't wait to go again!

Personally, I love trains so everything about it was great. I thought the trip went by extremely fast and we are doing in again next March. I would advise she bring a good book or tablet to watch some shows or Netflix, etc. If you do that be sure to download before you leave as there is NO reliable service on the train. I brought one book and barely finished it by the time we got back as there is so much to see outside the train. Remember, they do offer daily activities such as wine or beer tastings, bingo, trivia, and movie nights in the lounge area under the dome car. There are board games, puzzles, etc as well. I found the journey west to be much busier and exciting, the train was only about half full on the return to Toronto. I would do it every year if I could. Enjoy your trip!
