"Now therefore a book can serve to begin different stories: no more painted universes, no more spaces represented without reality behind us; we focus on the voids, on the absences, we focus on the non-existent, apparently, of the suburbs, we focus on the edge, on the margin, on the limit that are the countryside and the structures of our reality that are, at least from the photographic representation, marginalized. "Adesso quindi un libro potrà servire a cominciare storie diverse: niente più universi dipinti, niente più spazi rappresentati senza realtà alle spalle; puntiamo sui vuoti, sulle assenze, puntiamo sul non-esistente, in apparenza, delle periferie, puntiamo sul bordo, sul margine, sul limite che sono le campagne e le strutture della nostra realtà che sono, almeno dalla rappresentazione fotografica, emarginate. Certo il problema sarà vedere con che cosa e come le case produttrici di pellicole nella loro pubblicità reagiranno: ci diranno di analizzare le villette di periferia, i casermoni INA, i vasi di cemento, i marciapiedi sbrecciati, i cartelli dissociati, i bordi stopposi e malati delle città e dei paesi dove l'ultima industria invade la bottega dell'artigiano e cavalca il casolare? Nell'attesa cerchiamo di riflettere su questo lavoro, il più nuovo certo che sull'antropologia del paesaggio sia stato prodotto in Italia. Aggiungo. Non solo in Italia. Da molti anni" (A.C. Gli autori recuperavano anche quei brani di paesaggio esclusi dall'itinerario culturale "alto" e mitizzante del Grand Tour, a cui sostituivano fotografie ambigue, immagini di interni o stanze vuote."
