What to see at the Merida station of the Maya Train:
* The oldest Cathedral in Mexico
-Whether you are a believer or not, the inside of this building is worth -visiting, if you pay close attention you will see stone blocks that still have carved Mayan motifs, since they originally belonged to the pyramid structures and temples of the ancient Mayan city 'T'ho', which was even larger than Chichén Itzá but which, by order of the Spanish invaders, was dismantled and all its materials were used to build the churches, houses and original infrastructure of the city when it was founded several centuries ago.
* Mérida Carnival
-This is a party of 5 consecutive days, it usually happens in February but the date varies every year, check the website of the state of Yucatan so you know what day it will be celebrated and you can plan your trip in advance.
*Cultural events
-Every day there is something to see at night, the three shows that are unmissable in our opinion are:
1.- Pok ta Pok: The Mayan ball game can be enjoyed on Saturdays in front of the cathedral, it is a show with live music. If you want to find a place, come at least an hour in advance to be able to sit in the stands and enjoy a good view.
2.- Dance in front of the Municipal Palace: If you like dancing on Sunday night, this is your moment, cumbia, salsa, cha cha chá, romantic music and a familiar atmosphere await you with the band that livens up the party.
3.- Las Vaquerías: The gala night is on Mondays, it is a show in which you will see the typical dances of the region accompanied by the band of jarana from the town hall, if you want to see what it is, watch this video: • La Vaquería en Mérida .
* Archaeological zones
1.- Uxmal: It is located at the south of Mérida, the buildings will impress you even more than Chichén Itzá, although, in this video, we do not stop much at this place, we invite you to see another video where we tour the area and tell you more about it : • Mérida Yucatán, qué...
2.- Dzibilchaltún: To get to this area you have to drive just 15 minutes north of Mérida towards Puerto Progreso, take your bathing suit, a towel, and a lot of desire to cool off in the Xlacah cenote, but be sure to visit the archaeological zone and the museum. By the way, the place has a locker service and parking.
* Puerto Progreso
-It was proposed as a station for phase 2 of the Maya Train, but at the moment a connection to the route is not contemplated, either way, it is one of the most traditional destinations to visit because it is the closest beach to the Ciudad Blanca (White City).
-To arrive by public transportation we have information at viajefest.com/puerto-progreso
-If you visit Progreso, don't be filthy and pick up your trash!
* Celestún
-This is a small coastal town that is to the west of Mérida, its beach is beautiful, it is still very natural in the sand and you find small shells, snails at first sight, and above all, it is clean and free of seaweed. It is characterized by practically no waves so it is a very good place to take your family.
-The Ria Celestún is an ecosystem defined as a Natural Area Protected by the biodiversity it houses, not only is it a place to see flamingos, there are also more than 300 different species of Birds.

The Maya Train station in Mérida will be located in La Plancha, and it has been proposed that it be underground, there is also the idea that they should better locate it on the outskirts of the city so as not to hinder the usual traffic. Mérida belongs to the Gulf section of the tourist circuit of the Mayan Train route and will be section 3 to be built, or rather to be rehabilitated since the train tracks already exist, they only need to be modernized.
