This one beats even the familiar recorded version we all know - it sounds so pristine and clear as a bell - the production of this Peel Session version is astonishing - given that this song is now 42 years old!!! They may have brought out loads of *bigger* and *doomier* tracks and singles later on, but nothing really beats the sheer brooding magnificence of this - their first proper epic, and the first song by The Cure I ever heard played on the radio in 1980 given that it was also their first chart hit single too!

I like the original and Peel versions. They're both great in their own ways. Downside of the Peel one is how quiet in the mix Robert's vox are; the original's level is just perfect. 🌲🌲🌲

It might be just the opposite actually. There is a good chance that the Peel sessions sound so good because they are so simple and stripped down. Whatever the case...it suits this perfectly. I love this version of the song.
