Vibraphone Exercises for COMPLETE BEGINNERS (Free Course!)

I'm a visual learner (lefty over here), and at some point I realized just how important certain 'visual' techniques are to being able to play the vibraphone. You need to know which direction to move the mallets to get ready for the next notes!
So in this free mini-online-course, I've taken some basic scale and arpeggio exercises and highlighted them with graphics on the screen to make it easier for you to 'see' all of the different movements you need to make when playing the vibraphone.
These are exercises meant for beginners, but I've found that even after playing for 20 years they also help me.

This a great video Tim! I have been watching your videos for a couple years now and I think you are doing the best jazz vibraphone content on youtube by far. I met the vibraphone for the first time about 4 years ago and fell in love. I am now preparing to audition on jazz vibes for grad school next fall. Hey Tim, thank you for this quick introduction! I hope you will contiune this as a "series". Would be cool! Two questions though: Would you also practice the Arpeggios with changed sticking eg. RLRL instead of LRLR? The other question is more a request: Could you do a video about chords and how to decide "what handposition" to use? E.g. answering the old question on how to stick B7. Thanks!

Now that’s a good idea.. I get that question all the time in lessons. As for the sticking, I don’t tend to practice the ones that feel really awkward, but it probably still is a good idea. Guess I should go practice more.

I may have to trade in one of my dogs for a cat, as she loves to 'sing' along LOUDLY while I practice. 😅 Does anything change in these rudiments if you have a marimba instead of vibes? Also, I see you stressed striking the center of the bar. Do you ever strike the end of the bar on the upper keys, or is that completely verboten?
