Great information, thank you! But does this work for 4k/120 ProRes Log? Apple’s own documentation states that the external media must have at least a 440mb transfer rate for this. Others have also tested this out with “fast” SSDs such as the Samsung T7/T9s, and even some NVMEs enclosures, and these worked to a point before getting a dreaded error message. I just want to make sure you clarify this. Thanks!

Let me just say that until now no company has got it right. Only lexar with their new ssd and media hub seem to be in the right direction but it’s a kickstarter campaign. JJC has come up with a phone holder that you can attach an ssd with screws (created to accommodate all sorts of case sizes, but once the ssd cable connects to your iphone then you cannot connect a microphone receiver. Maybe with a type c splitter it might be possible but there cannot be a very compact solution.

Exactly. The only Brand that sort of did it right is Mike. The have a USB C ssd drive featuring also MagSafe and an extra USB-C Pass through that allows connecting other accessories or charging. The footprint is not bigger than a usb stick. Now if anger came up with exactly this + a battery pack inside, it would change a lot of things.

Very interesting - looking at so many options to record to and these seems like a real option. Do you use a ND filter over the iPhone lenses? if you do... does the unit work with it or are they fighting for space on the back?

Hey Ben. The only nd filters I’ve used with the iPhone tend to be the ones that are mounted on a cage and no issues with those. The other ones, I don’t know to be honest.

@@VicBarry to be honest the biggest thing is the recognition problem of the SD card. It sounds perfect to me to switch SD cards between my camera and my iPhone just the way I need it. But if this prevents the intended use in some inconsistent way, I would rather wait for the second generation 👍🏻

Hey Vic, it‘s not the cheapest way to record Pro Res V-Log. At first you need a SD card with 400 mb/s, can‘t find it on Amazon😢. SanDisk 1TB 200mb/s (does it work?) 150 EUR + Anker 29 EUR. Crucial 1TB, M2 SSD, 7100 mb/s costs 83 EUR + Jeyi 2230 ssd m2 case costs 24 EUR. Greats from Germany😀 Mathias

Hey Mathias, outside of recording on 4K 120 on the iPhone 16 Pro, I've happily recorded on a 128 MB/s V30 Sandisk. card withhout issue (both 4k 60 and 4k 30) - This is an SD card I had lying around and can't remember what I paid for it, but it's less than 30 bucks on amazon atm

@@jefferygriffith7473 hey Jefferey, I don‘t believe it works. 4K 120 fps log requires 400 mb/s data transfer rate. You achieve this only with an external SSD. Greats

MagSafe SSDs exist and will run circles around this thing. Such a useless product. SD cards aren’t fast enough for much of anything but storing PDFs and pictures. They are barely fast enough for my 4k Dashcam! 😂
