I use the Logic Pro X. I try to record with my gain -6, 18 Db on the controls. Which represents a moderate sound volume. I send my effects using a bus instead of plugging into the channel. I use EQ for a tonal balance, Compression to even out the volume levels of the saxophone, Reverb to create a sense of space, a little bit of Chorus for smoothing the saxophone sound and then I master the entire track for the overall sound and loudness. I am still learning a lot about mastering! It's fascinating to me!
