Vice Grip (2024) | Short Horror Film

An influencer trains to become a lucid dreamer to battle against an evil force in her nightmare.
"Vice Grip" is the third short horror film from writer, producer, and director, Dillon Vibbart. This horror film also serves as the final entry in our nightmare anthology series after "Somniphobia" and "Don't Hide."
The film was produced on a $22k budget with the help from our film's co-sponsor, Bruce Clay Inc. Shot on the ARRI Mini and utilizing a skeleton crew, it was filmed in October 2023 across 3 different locations in Los Angeles, CA. The goal of the film was to tell a story that could seem like a worthy final entry in our nightmare series, but also continuing to explore important themes that go beyond just the scares.
With an amazing team behind this project, we hope “Vice Grip” can display another prime example of indie filmmaking at its best. Enjoy!

I've seen a lot of B-horror movies where you could tell right away it was sub par from the acting to the low budget. Your film looks professional. @@DillonVibbart I've now watched this, Somnophobia, and Don't Hide. Honestly, things like this that explore the *real* scary things in life, I.e.: the mind's way of dealing with real struggles, are why I got into horror movies in the first place. I wish I could explain it better, but my mom still thinks I'm nuts b/c she thinks it's all jumpscares, gore, and gratuitous violence. I really find the scares like you make, that touch on the subconscious and the mental demons in life, are the best sort of horror.

This was exceptionally well shot and thought out. I think this film strongly supports that you can do so much in the horror Genre with a small concept if it is done correctly. Well written and very well acted as well. All of these are kind of rare in short form horror (especially to have all three). I will definitely be looking out for more from you. ********************** ***slight spoilers*** I absolutely have to shout out Lana's ability to "react" to conversation in a way that didn't make it immediately obvious or weird that we had not heard her speak. It took me a decent chunk of her interaction with the first youtuber to catch that detail. very well executed.

Very good, I liked it. The end was cool. I have lucid dreams on occasion, the weird thing is, it is not cut and dry. One dream, there was some Zombie thing going on, I 'woke' up, knew it was a dream changed things around, but it only lasts so long. If it is a regular non crazy dream, I will pick up on little things, but usually not much to worry about. For me if I can't use a phone to call, or dial it, I know it is a dream, if it turns into a bird and flies away, the numbers I am dialing are jumbled.

I actually used lucid dreaming to overcome my nightmares by forcing myself to try and read things in my dream. That part of our brain is usually shut off so it's a bunch of gibberish.

Wow I didn't expect a reply, let alone one so quickly! I was plagued over and over with being trapped in a wooden, dilapidated cabin that zombies were getting into. It was horrible, but after learning that reading fact, my brain would just kind of click if I saw something like a book or a label, and suddenly...problem solved. :) Glad you had a good experience. Also, just wanted to say I stumbled on this short trilogy within the last...two hours? Amazing work. I would never guess these were short films given the quality of..essentially everything. Will say, Phoebe for me was very difficult to like until you saw the REAL Phoebe. Not some fancy house that I wish I could live in haha, but a girl actually living, and finally taking control over that social media addiction. Wonderful job. Truly. @@DillonVibbart

Is this guy for real? I watched his Somniphobia previously and i thought it was one of the best short films i have ever seen, and i have seen shit load of them. And now i watched this and it is even better. Holly crap where have you been man, your work is both visual to the point of shivers while simultaneously tickling something human and real and just bellow the surface of every "average Joe" subconsciousness. Dude, human condition is like a clay for you man isn't it, you shape it in something both scary and tangible, blending them so well and naturally. I adore the short film/story medium, and you have been a godsend. How the hell haven't i heard about you before?
