Jill Domme (@jilliandommejewels) was one of 80,000 retailers who joined LuLaRoe. Consumed by early success, she is now paying off $39,000 in debt by driving GrubHub as her second job.
LuLaRoe, a multi-billion dollar company that skyrocketed to success by attracting an army of women to sell their colorful patterned clothes is now facing numerous lawsuits calling the company a “pyramid scheme.”

They don't. Most of the purchases are from actual sellers. Most sellers end up with tonnes of ugly inventory they can't get rid of and often it gets sold onto other sellers when they go out of business.

They're encouraged to do this by their uplines.... because how else are they gonna earn their coin? Eventually, you run out of Facebook friends and family to market to - so you rely on your lackeys buying shit from the company (where you get a bigger % commission off the purchase from bigger packages) to earn $, it's far more lucrative. Therefore, the reps themselves are the company's biggest customers.

If the said company believes so much in their products, they would send it to you first, you send them their cut when it sells. Consignment like deal where the seller(the one interacting with the customers) pays for the product as it sells.. Or return it in a postage paid box provided by wholesaler.. But what's the point, if every bit of money you make goes to buying more stuff that may not sell.. You should get a FULL REFUND on crap that didn't sell..

working for grub hub isnt much better than working for lularoe. companies like grub hub, lyft, uber give you cash in your pocket, it seems reasonable for awhile. Often women without much of a support group or social network are the ones that will fall into this type of shit, and then their social network and support groups become full of people also involved in the scheme. They make it seem like they are this tight-nit community that all have each others backs and it's really appealing to those who don't have that in their life.
@TheSameYellowToy
@TheSameYellowToy 4 жыл бұрын
MLMs, just like cults, often prey on people who don't have a good (or any) social support group. Lonely people or people who don't have healthy relationships are a prime target for them. MLMs and cults will "love bomb" you when you're new. Suddenly, you're surrounded by tons of new friends who compliment you nonstop, believe in you, and love you so much! ...Only this "friendship" and "love" is very conditional. If you start questioning the MLM/cult or leave, all of your new "friends" will mock you and/or shun you. MLMs and cults also try to isolate their members from any opposing viewpoints. Only the MLM/cult is right. Anyone who does not support the company/cult is automatically wrong. People who don't support it are all negative, stupid, misinformed, haters, jealous, toxic, awful, or even evil people who don't want you to succeed, so you need to cut them out of your life! Your friends and family who think you're making a mistake by being part of this, and trying to talk you out of it, are all just a bunch of dumb negative haters who are only going to bring you down, they don't actually care about you like we in the MLM/cult do! And even if an MLM doesn't explicitly tell you to cut off your loved ones...their sales tactics are an indirect way to cut them off. Constantly spamming your friends and family with sales pitches on social media and turning every social interaction with them into a potential sale is eventually going to drive everyone who doesn't want to get involved with the MLM away from you...which helps solidify the echo chamber.

I remember watching those people on Periscope and feeling like I was missing something. Some nights there would be 5 - 6 of them live streaming their "sales" and they'd be so amp'd over those ugly overpriced clothes, and each person would have at least 20 people watching and buying and they were excited too! Those live streams were strangely fascinating because the clothes were so ugly and unimpressive but everyone was so excited about them and they would sale out! I sent a message to a couple of the sellers asking about the company and were they really making big bucks pushing those overpriced Wal-Mart looking clothes. Both were very dismissive in their responses like if you're not buying something they didn't want to talk. I watched a few more times because again, it was fascinating! Like a cult were people were being brainwashed into believing those ugly clothes were the shizzle, fascinating! Oh, and the male sellers were really hilarious! There was one who streamed from a super messy overcrowded bedroom that he'd turned into his personal LLR warehouse. He acted like those awful stretch pants were dipped in gold and he couldn't contain his excitement.

SO good you are out of it. You sound like you have your head on straight about what happened and why. You WILL be able to rebuild from where you are now. Just keep going in the positive direction you are going and five years will be done. You will by then be able to take this experience into the rest of your life in a GOOD way. Don't feel ashamed, you are one of many manywho get conned and played. I had a family member who got mixed up in a different MLM scheme. She was actually a RN. She had had a baby and put on weight and she very much wanted to lose the weight. She began selling a shake product etc. marketed by a MLM copany. She worked out and dieted and did start losing weight. The company is expert at manipulation, how to play on the desperation of women, their insecurities and dreams. Between signing up new sellers and gradually losing weight she felt better about herself..no one knew HOW low her self esteem must have been. Her husband tried to tell her how much DEBT she was actually getting into (buying and stockpiling the product herself) . The company did events like those you describe and told her to be successful she needed to LOOK successful. She went out and bought a sports car she couldnot afford, posted her workouts online, videos of herself getting manicures and pedicures, her car purchase, her trips. and pampering she said she paid for from her marketing profits (NO). She started working double nursing shifts all weekend , working out hard during the week and saying she no longer needed to work during the week and now had time at home (bec she worked her RN job all weekend long). She generally acted like someone addicted to her diet, those shakes, her weight loss program, the con patter spun out by that company, etc. After she racked up many thousands in debt her husband tried again to convince her to give it up because the kids were suffering from the loss of her attention. Instead of seeing the light she kicked him out. She wouldn't listen to her own parents who tried to tell her her increasingly out of control behavior was hurting everyone, herself more than anyone. After a bit over a year she had racked up over $60,000 in debt, she went to a company event out of town and KILLED herself. She must have felt so ashamed of what she had gotten herself into, the mess she had made of her lovely life.She must not have understood that no matter how bad things are , suicide is a permanent "solution" to what is really only a temporary problem. I am so glad YOU are wiser and you have survived just about the worst re your cancer and KNOW that you are oh so very lucky to have survived. That gives you the strength to see your way out. You WILL get it done and you will have a happy life. You have many decades ahead of you and this will turn out to have just been a blip in the road. I so wish SHE had seen that! MLM companies can be DANGEROUS and addictive. It can all end very very badly as it did for my family...so anyone contemplating doing that for any company, PLEASE reconsider. There is no short cut to wealth (except for founders of these companies). Years ago programs like " 60 Minutes" would do exposes on things like this. Women who had fallen for such schemes would have come out of the woodwork and there would have been action taken often including Congressional hearings. These days Congresspeople care nothing about the losses to individuals and families...they are only counting the political donations of lobbyists who represent groups of these companies. I am ASHAMED of what America has become in this regard...one scheme after another to profit on dreams of ordinary citizens and zero governmental protection. ZERO!

She has plenty of issues, but she doesn't seem like a horrible person, so I would bet she does have friends/family and at least one trustworthy person told her it was a terrible idea, but she didn't listen. Plus there's always Google. Remember, one of the first thing MLM people do is warn you that 'so-called friends and family will be jealous of your opportunity or not understand it, and warn you against it - don't listen, this is a chance in a lifetime etc'. The problem is, she's vulnerable plus she's not very smart, and she just has no impulse control. Hard to believe, but she is still involved in MLMs. It's amazing how many people do exactly what she has done, and join other MLMs hoping to pay off debts that came out of the first scheme. The predatory MLM 'huns' love desperate victims of other MLMs: "Oh, hun, Lularoe is awful, you're so lucky you got out of it... I'm in a great business, much better than Lularoe, you will be a boss babe in no time..."

One of the reasons I stopped using Facebook was because a good third of my friends list were friends and family Members selling a myriad of MLM’s. None of them were doing LuLaRoe. It was Herbalife, It works, Younique, even that $5 jewelry thing. I started getting messages about selling/recruitment, eventually getting invites to online streams trying to sell me shit. Then, what started happening was other MLM sellers that were mutual friends with my friend would try adding me, and it eventually got too much of a headache. I don’t like being rude to people, so, I just ditched Facebook.

Also she probably lost her car because she couldnt make payments. Yea she was making like 15k a month or whatever, but lula roe pressures its sellers to spend 12k of that on new inventory. So the next month she sells 30k, but they pressure her to spend 25k on inventory. So in the end, the amount of income for the girl at the end in this hypothetical is only 8k. That's probably why she couldnt pay taxes on 30k of profit, because she didnt end up with that 30k.

Her sales plummeted when the bad press started on Lularoe, telling the world what a crap company they were. She lost her car because she wasn't smart enough to buy it outright when she had the money to, and couldn't pay the monthly payments on it and it got repo'ed. Judging by her comments, I would say she borrowed the initial investment money or put it on a credit card.

I feel bad for her. I do. But there is something else going on that needs to be addressed. I can understand behavior like this. It's being in bad relationships, but keeping thinking that the next one is going to be different, and the next one is going to be different, without realizing that maybe you attract bad guys and you need to wonder why you are doing that. I never seem to have bad luck with men, so instead of beating a dead horse, I no longer date. I'm lonely at times, but problem solved. No drama, no wondering if he's cheating, no saying anything nasty or condescending to me. I may figure it out someday, but the older I get, the more I know my odds of meeting the type of man I want shrink considerably. So I don't base my happiness on meeting a cool guy I am attracted to to hang out with. I just live my life doing things that make me happy.

Then get a shot of the street name and cross street. Then you film yourself driving away. How will anyone be able to say their order didn’t arrive. It’s 27k gross sales. So probably half of that net. And then these “consultants” have to “reinvest” in the company and buy more inventory. And of course pay taxes but she didn’t do that lol. But these MLM people like to flash big numbers but what they actually take home is significantly less.

@@mirandataylor6385 Less work is the false promise that MLMs sell you. They tell you about flexible hours, self starting, entrepreneurship, and friendship, all just for a small starting price of hundreds if not thousands of dollars. They specifically prey on people who don’t have a lot of time and want to earn money quick and easy and are easily swept up by people who throw out buzzwords. So both what you and the other person said are true. People join MLMs thinking that they can work less, but in reality, they end up working more.
