I remember as a kid being SO excited when I saw Chicken Salt for sale at the Supermarket... Only to find out it's some awful fake version, it had a red hue and tasted awful. Unfortunately NO major Supermarket in Australia carries it. Real "Aussie" Chicken Salt is Lime Green/Yellow colour, that's the chicken salt that the Fish & Chip Places use, the BBQ Chicken Joint, etc. That's the chicken salt we love! Do NOT buy any chicken salt that isn't the true Lime Green/Yellow colour, that other stuff is nothing like it. If you're looking for it in Australia you can find it on eBay.

Thing is, there are actually a number of the more legitimate types and which flavour your preferred tuck shop/fish n chip shop/bbq chicken shop uses can vary but this guy on ebay sells basically every type there is and more, my preference is 'Type 1' but I also purchased Type 2 and it's tasty but not what I grew up on, His store offers different weights and this 'auction' lists 11 types he has available but again I suggest Number 1, though if you wanna be safe buy Type 1 & Type 2, www.ebay.com.au/itm/Chicken-Salt-250g-Shanez-11-Different-Choices-Variety/323405534279?hash=item4b4c78d447:g:dB8AAOSwcN1acbDz He even offers a 'kentucky chicken style' which I'm planning to try next time I order. Mmm, I've just been going with; onion powder, garlic powder, ginger powder, and those little packets from packs of chicken ramen(they're pretty salty). Tastes pretty good even though they have a celery taste and I'm very not fond of celery, but the other spices minimalize that flavor.

Mitani is salty as fuck, tastes nothing like my favourite chicken salted chips. The 'REAL' Chicken salt is almost glowing yellow, stains my paper wrap and has an insane depth of sweet chicken goodness that you can't get enough of. Mitani just marketed themselves as the 'OG' when in reality, their formula is an inferior product.

You are correct. Mitani was probably first but it was made to be sprinkled on roast chicken. chicken salt has evolved and is now more aimed at french fries. Mitani is literally the worst chicken salt for french fries, but still good on roast chicken.
