@@incorectulpolitic most endemic birds, lizards, snakes, and small mammals - including flying squirrels - are fair game. A huge issue is that bites and scratches that don't immediately kill most wildlife will likely do so secondary to the penetrative trauma. And toxoplasma is no joke. If it's a mammal - arboreal, terrestrial or aquatic - or a bird, then they're susceptible with varying pathologies between them, or whichever animal eats those animals. And, if you're flushing the fecal material of an indoor cat that's shedding toxo, and if your waste-water reclamation system not equipped to handle toxo, it's going right into the ocean or dumping spot of choice - so whales, dolphins, manatees, porpoises, etc aren't safe either. I'm an animal lover, but I'm realistic about it. Turn your pet or livestock out into the wild and you are going to cause headaches for everyone. Part of being an animal lover is also loving the native wildlife and protecting it against domestics which have gone feral. The people in this video are on the pointy end of that stick, but those of us who really do care about animals should thank them, not chastise them. They are the ones who have to pick up after other peoples' mess, and the fact that they are doing it in the most humane ways possible with as little damage to other animals and the environment as possible is to be lauded. You are spot on in pointing out that people who call themselves animal lovers but hate these guys are hypocrites. True animal lovers need to focus their efforts on pet owners and livestock operators who fail to keep their animals confined. If your animal goes feral, then expect that it will not survive, and that if it does survive, it will cause untold damage.

This issue with invasive species has been their cry out slogan for years. You see them killing species who thrive. They're the hypocrites. What about farm animals, don't they destroy the land as well? All animals pose a threat if you cry out to the government and the world that they pose a threat to the ecosystem. Any animal who don't pose a direct threat to humans must be left alone. How sure are they that those said plant and animals species went extinct because of these so called invasive species? Just an excuse for their evil behavior. I doubt there is even that much feral cats because baby kittens are vulnerable at a young age. They die often in the wild. If you'd seen feral cats, they often have 1 or 2 surviving kittens that reach adulthood. Only in captivity or within a home can they raise more kittens that survive. I bet you there wasn't a threat to the ecosystem on the first place. Just Australians wanting to rage war against animals that don't favor them

I do get what you're saying, but I'd rather see eradication outright. I live in Oregon, we were starting to see the same feral hog issues other States are fighting. My State classified them as non-protected species, available to hunt/kill all year long. The promise of good food and a healthy hunter population has led to an effectively nil population of feral hogs. However, I can see feral cats not being particularly attractive for filling the freezer, which makes them less attractive.

But the feral cats are domestic cats, but escaped, that's all they are, it's no use pretending they are "different", they are THE SAME. So, as long as people have domestic cats in Australia, even if you get rid of all feral cats, they soon will be replaced by new feral cats because of the source - domestic cats turned feral, you have to get rid of domestic cats completely from Australia and Tasmania, but you won't, you just have this half hearted attempt which doesn't solve the problem at all for the long term. What you have done is irreversibly damaged the biodiversity of Australia by repopulating the land with cats, dogs and rabbits that completely outcompete the indigenous species, it's good that you're trying to do something about it, but it will never be enough unless you remove them ALL. I'm sorry but that's just the harsh reality, we live in a fantasy world where people think they can have their cake and eat it, and it's always somebody else or some creature else, that pays.

Feral and domestic cats that are allowed to roam outside are still a huge problem in the USA. A well fed cat still hunts and kills--it is just in their nature. Birds--especially natives like the Whip-poor-will that hides on the ground--are very vulnerable to cats. Estimates are over two billion native birds per year are killed by cats in the USA alone--not counting all the other challenges to native birds like habitat loss. I used to have barn cats on my farm, but they are all removed now. The wrens came here and nest safely now--we had none because they hunt low to the ground, hoping under brush to hunt for bugs--irresistible to a cat. The wrens took care of my cabbage worm problem--my crops look better. Now I have a healthy barred owl population hunting the mice at night. We actually have LESS mice now that I got rid of the cats. Indoor cats as pets are great, but they are not native to the ecosystem here.

I was involved in a culling process that required the removal of an animal called the nutria. Its an aquatic rodent that can weigh as much as 35 lbs when pregnant. The issue was the animals were digging tunnels into the banks of the drainage canals along side of the main roadways which eventually caused the roads to slip off into the canals. The cost to maintain the roads ran in the millions of dollars. The city counsel decided that perminent removal was the best option since trapping them was nearly impossible. Several groups were set up to patrol the roads and end the lives of these living bulldozers. We were issued 22 cal rifles, spot lites, nite vision, and infrared units (FLIRs). In 6 weeks time the issues was taken care of and now only requires a once a month check up on new damage.

With no grass growing, the mud would wash away from wave action leaving banks of mud which would wash out and silt up the water, choking the smaller fish, the crabs left, the normal fauna of bird life dissapeared, the oysters died off. Thats just some of the damage that occured due to the importation of a South American rodent that didnt have but 1 natural preditor here and there wernt enough of them to keep the population in control. About 2 yrs passed and the population was under control, the grasses grew back and with that the other animals and marine life showed signs of recovery. If you go to NZ, they will tell you that "the only good possum is a dead possum", because favourable breeding conditions have enabled them to wipe out huge tracts of native bush, whereas they haven't necessarily had that effect in Australia. We need to take appropriate action, as required.

Yes but ppl are more of a problem than cats so should ppl start killing ppl because we're worse than cats on the environment.

I'm a Yank in the States, here. Ridding feral cats is a very responsible way to protect native species. Your efforts are noble and commendable. Those who would disagree haven't got a clue! I support your efforts!

Hey Andrea keep up the good work, without farmers we all starve. I live in the city, but being an ex country boy still hunt feral animals. I went to a lecture given by Harry Butler about 30 years ago, during which he said that feral cats and foxes were the biggest threat faced by our native fauna and we should kill every one we see. I have done my best to obey his suggestion ever since.

@@joaojervell5396 Yes they are a natural species, BUT NOT NATIVE to Australia where they have found our native Fauna no match for their hunting skills, They are feral animals in Australia pure and simple, and one fox will kill hundreds of native birds and animals during its lifetime. Are those natural species of no value...?. We humans made the stupid decision to introduce foxes (and cats) into this country, we have realised our mistake and it is time to fix the problem. It is already too late in some instances.

These are Feral Cats that don't stand a chance of ever being adopted. Look at the number of unwanted domesticated cats on creglist. These cats kill millions of wild life and can cause the food chain to brake. Yes it's sad, no body wants to see animals being hunted especially ones that we associate as pets. But it's just not practical to try and "save" them. These wild animals that's killing the native wild life, who would have an extremely hard time living in captivity. (No way in hell am I tell you it's okay to go round shooting stray cats that's not right at all but these are completely feral and are a big problem for the wild life)

Dogs and cats are closely related you hurt one and you hurt a large % of the biology of the other and vice versa. See the hyena its more cat than dog. Or just look at a dogs paw pads, whisker holes on the cheek and above the eye, look at the mouth line, the skeleton and so on then compare it to a cats, you see the dog in the cat? They share a common ancestor , I know most/many of the people killing cats are dog owners not cat owners, you wouldnt do it if it were dogs, unfortunately for you, cats are a big % dog, so you are killing alot of what you love as you cull them.
