Derek, that episode brings back a lot of memories. I turned 16 in 1968, and my dad had bought a brand new 1967 Pontiac and the 67 and 68 were almost identical. The color of that one looked identical to my dad`s car and yes they were a boat compared to today's cars. Thank you, Derek, for the memories, I`m 71 now crippled, and live in a bedroom at my son`s place now, my wife has passed away a little over 8 years ago, and our first date was in that 67 Pontiac. Writing this one out made my eyes do a little leaking.

The first car that I ever really worked on was a 1968 Oldsmobile 98 Regency that belonged to my buddy's grandma. It stopped running and his dad parked it behind their garage and essentially abandoned it. My buddy and I were young, about 14 or 15, and we had been looking over the shoulders of our older friends who worked on cars, so we decided to get grandma's car running. It was similar to this Pontiac in that it was an enormous land yacht. It had a big block GM V8, but in our case it was a 455. My friend and I each had some basic hand tools; a few wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and a set of SAE sockets that, between us, was complete. I couldn't believe it when we got it running! We took it for a spin around the block and when we got back to the house, Grandma was on the sidewalk, supported by her walker, and she practically cheered. She was amazed that we, a couple of kids, could get the old beast running again. She was even more shocked when I showed her that I got the front passenger side power window to work. Eventually, my buddy's dad renewed the registration and put some insurance on it and it became my friend's first real car. I don't remember all that much from that far back, but I remember the thrill the first time we took that Olds around the block.

I turn 69 in a few days and my Family has had several of the vehicles you've revived on your show. I truly appreciate every episode l can snag. Very entertaining and, well....really nostalgic in many ways.

That is definitely a car that takes a little looking at to fully appreciate. It’s awesome ,the side view with the windows down , massive trunk, basically has it all.

Good looking old rig that! Good to see a feller got her up and running again. Also shows what a bit of knowledge and know how can do over just throwing parts at it.

Awesome! I currently have a '68 428 engine out of a bonneville that my mom totaled in high school. Good to see a similar car being worked on!

Dad had one like this, it was a only couple years old, the "family car", and I was in still in high school, normally driving my 64 Chevy Biscayne with a 6 banger. This was pretty special, with it's 400 cubes, serious, smooth power, a real dream machine. Needless to say, I really loved driving it when dad said, "sure". But of course, I almost trashed it on a cold winter's day. The snow was coming down pretty hard and we were heading north on 35w just outside of MPLS returning from a little ski trip with my girlfriend. Well naturally I let it creep up to around 80 or so, and wouldn't you know, with the snow and ice, It started to break free, swaying back and forth, setting itself up to spin out, instantly I backed off the gasolator and she trimmed right up dropping back into the narrow path cut by other's folks tires in the snow. She gave me a warning, a second or two to choose which way we were going to go and rewarded my youthful stupidity with grace. Now here I sit under my electric blanket, at almost 70 and it is still a crystal-clear memory of what a guy should never to do on a snowy highway. Duh! Dear old Dad would not have been happy with the kid had it gone any further sideways. And hey, we really enjoy your presentations, nice job! Thanks!

This video brought me great joy and excitement. I got my driver's license in 1968 so I'm right out of this era. My dad had big GM's since the time I was a little guy and started hanging around watching him doing his own garage maintenance. I learned a lot about the GM V-8s through all those years. Dad had a '60 Buick 225, '60 Pontiac Ventura, '62 Pontiac Catalina, '64 Pontiac Bonneville, '64 Olds 98, '70 Pontiac Bonneville, and '73 Olds 98. At about that time I left home but he continued with big GM's and then switched to Lincolns in the '90s onward.

Much like Gary this brought back many memories. A 68 Bonneville was my first car back in 73 which I guess started my love of those old monstrous "land yachts". Nearly 2 tons of actual steel and enough horsepower to make it move (really fast).

How great is it for you to be working with your son and sharing your experience with him? This is better than a college education alone, to be able to build your relationship, and share the restoration process at the same time. What a great gift for him.

I bought a '68 Catalina for 200 bucks. It had this same engine but a two barrel carb. It was a great car. I took a 25 inch color console TV to the repair shop and didn't even have to tie the trunk lid down. Just set the TV in the trunk and closed the like lol.

Almost 'same here' except mine was a '63. I bought it in 1965 when I was 18 and really loved the car,, BUT it was a 'Land Yacht' and all my buddys were driving Tri 5 Chevs and late '50's early Fords so I traded it in on a brand new '70 340/Torqueflight Dodge Dart. I liked my Dart but never forgot (even to this day at 76 yrs 'ol) how much I 'loved' that big ol gold on gold, 389ci Bonneville.

This video and the Bonneville in particular hit me right in the feels man. Brings back so many memories of fun times and the love shared with my grandparents. Damn if I didn't start getting soggy eyes just now while making this comment and thinking about my grandpa & grandma taking us kids to get a kids meal in the " Big Blue Bonnie " . This video warmed my heart. My dad had a '68 Bonneville 4 door with a 428, same color..He was in a bad accident with it a year after he got it, when someone pulled out in front of him and Pops T-boned him. I'd like to think that car saved his life that day, although he was laid up for 6 months recovering. The car was fixed up and back on the road, but my dad sold it 2 years later. Love your vids, keep 'em coming!
