The 1952 Dodge Meadowbrook is back! I dig into the cooling system and try to get that repaired, then get side tracked and start buffing the paint out, because I want it Factree. Maybe it shines a little more? I think it does. Brings a guy right down to his knees even. Ever see a old car break down in a car wash? Well, watch and find out what to do when that happens. Want to say hi, sell me some junk, or send me classic hats, Pencils, keychains, or liquid courage? Mail box machines is below.

Thank you for all your hard work and time making these videos. You are informative and hilarious. A guy can't watch your show and drink a beer at the same time because he'd waste the beer when it shot out his nose laughing. It still burns and damnit if don't smell like beer in here. A guy ought to warn a fella before that happens. Thanks so much for all you do!

30 years ago I had the distributor modulator go in the hammer lane in rush hour traffic in a city I knew nothing about and coasted over 3 lanes off a ramp through a green light past a stop sign crossing the street into the parking lot stopping 6 inches from the curb in front of a parts store without ever touching the brakes and put it in park. To this day It was by far my finest moment.

That's a good story. I had a friend that drove us up to the high country to see some snow. He hit a super slick patch of ice making a left. Spun the Jeep around at least 540° while clawing for grip into the parking lot and backed it into a nice parking spot in front of the restaurant we were headed to. Did it all in one smooth action. Don't think Ken Block coulda hooned it in there any better.

First car I had was an old ford. I banged on the house door. A old man came out. He looked like an older version of one of my Dads friends. Old mean biker lookin guy. He was a great person though. It was sunk in the mud and buried in weeds. I popped the hood made sure she had all her vitals available. Beat n heat the brakes until the wheels would turn. Started it up and rocked it out of the holes it made from sittin for years. Then rolled to a stop. Told the old man at the house, "I'll be back later to do the brakes so I could get er home". He gave me a funny look, like I was either dumb or crazy. He jumped in the car and proceeded to do doughnuts and burn outs in the intersection for about a half hour. He pulled back into the yard, he jumped out happy as hell. hopping and skipping, laughing and smiling. He walked up to me and said "see, you taken her home now then ?". I still wasnt sure about driving home with no brakes but, there was no way in hell I was about to tell that old man I didnt have the balls to do it ( I was only 15 years old, 1992 ). At that age I may not have had the balls yet but, I did it. It was one of the best lessons Ive learned in my life.

I broke down once when I was half my age. So this guy left his headlights on and went to work. So I have no juice when I come back. BIG lesson I learned is that if your car doesn’t go, if you sit in it and do nothing, that’s exactly what people will do for you. If you begin pushing the old car and trying to clutch start it or get it out of the way, people see you struggling but you are at least trying, they’ll put their one in PARK and jump out and help the fella. If you konk out, begin helping yourself and 20 people will show up out of nowhere and pick your car up, and move it to the side. It’s amazing what 21 Manpower can accomplish in a minute.

Great shine! Love the vidyas. I used to tour with my band 24/7 365 for years as a young un. Once we were headed to Yellowknife N.W.T. (North West Territories, Canada) from Calgary, Alberta in our bus with all our P.A. lights, amps, music gear and us loaded inside. It was January and we'd just passed High River two and a half hours back in -56C weather (yes that's truly how cold it gets up there). It was dark. Suddenly some how the rear dualies of the right side of the bus broke off and we skidded to a perilous stop on the ice highway. This was in the early 1990's so no cell phones. Bad. But the bus was still running so heat. Scared. Freaked out even (always high back then because, band). But the highway was and I guess still is patrolled by N.W.T. Rangers in trucks. Half hour waiting and one found us. He drove back to High River then sent a old fashioned hook style 1979 3/4 ton Ford F350 tow truck to come tow us back to High River. Single Cab. Only the sound man and Light guy went in the tow truck the rest of us stayed in the bus. He picked up the bus by the rear end and towed us backwards while we were inside of the bus trying to steer the front wheels and praying we wouldn't all die due to the insane constant weaving and skidding back and forth of the bus at speed being towed backwards in the dark, icy, cold, night of the single lane highway. We drank all we had and smoked all we could as we prayed for God to forgive us because WE KNEW WE WERE GOING TO DIE!!!.....But we didn't. That young whipper snapper of a backwards tow truck dude really handled the whole insane rig like a nuthouse Nixon. We got to the town, took the only Hotel there and waited for parts to fix the bus. I'm still a believer.

Worst place I ever broke down was over 30 years ago. I was toolin' down the highway in traffic in my '56 Buick when I encountered heavy traffic heading to the old Seattle Coliseum for a Seattle Sonics basketball game. That old nailhead didn't like the traffic much and vapor locked bigger than grannies bloomers. After getting the single finger salute about a thousand times from frustrated Sonics fans as my Buick was blocking traffic this dinky little tow truck finally showed up. The driver finally got the Buick hooked up and towed it and me home. Of course after the car sat in the lot outside my apartment overnight it fired right up. Needless to say however, I don't drive it in traffic much anymore. The Sonics are gone the coliseum is now called Key Arena, but the car is still with me.

If a guy wants to stop that vapor lockin up just put some of your wife's or granny's clothes pins on the makem go line between the fuel pump and the carburetor thingy. It'll draw of enough heat to keep a fella going thru the hot times. A trick I learned from an old desert fella some fifty years ago - works good and so long as you don't get caught swiping clothes pins - it's a cheap fix.

Derek: there is a hidden sheet metal tube, behind the water pump when installed , called a water distribution tube that puts water under pressure flowing upward towards the head, helping cool the head! The tube can clog overheating the head & engine! Or the tube can disintegrate from corrosion due to the fact that it is sheet metal! If installing a new one treat it so that it won’t corrode before installing , note if you obtain a new one fabricate a tool to pull out the old one, using the new one as a template, maybe, 1 1/4 x1/8 strap steel about 4’ long maybe a little longer to be able to grab end W/ slide hammer to yank out old tube if it breaks up spend the time to clean it out all the way to the back cylinder! Big difference in cooling the motor ! Not many people know about this ! I was taught this by an old timer! On my first engine build as a teenager in high school rebuilding my Dads 52 Plymouth station wagon Flathead 6! Regards Mad Mike S. From the land of freezing ass cold❄🥶⛄….

Made it roughly 500 feet before the smoke and smell and jumping began. 1990 Audi 80, That my dad got for free because no one could get it started. Worked his magic on her and got that problem diagnosed and fixed (cracked distributor cap, died every time a felette drove in the rain) But she had many additional issues that would keep coming up as she was undoubtedly the best most reliable model audi even created 👀 Thanks for the videos VGG - glad I came across the channel finally.

The downside, if it leaked it will get worse. Flush with clean water, fix the leaks then top off with distilled water and antifreeze or 50/50 antifreeze. @@kevinsukdolak5007 It will over heat at speed. The coolant has to spend time in the radiator to cool down. If you dont have a thermostat, a large flat body washer ( 5/8th") will work. Just make sure you figure out a gasket, maybe the one off the bad thermostat.

Just came across this video and it caught my attention because when I was a young lad my folks had a '52 Dodge just like this one, Coronet though, but exactly the same color. But I have a "what is the worst place you broke down" story. About twenty some years ago I was talking with a former co-worker who dabbled in old cars and he said "If you're looking for something, tell me." Half joking I said if you find a '46-'48 Dodge in great shape, let me know, being sure that finding said vehicle would be impossible. I mean, who would ever want to have such a thing. But the first car I had to drive was my grandfathers '48 Dodge 4dr sedan that eventually became my car through high-school, so I thought it would be fun to have one once again. Several months later he called me and said "I have your car". I responded "you found one". He replied "I bought it for you". We agreed on a price and he assured me that I should have no problem driving it back - a full half-day away. So I friend drove me down to get it and we drove it back with no issues. But it still had his plates on for driving home, so I needed to get the title transferred and new plates purchased. It was our anniversary so my wife and I were going to get the car's title transferred and then go out to eat afterword. The old Dodge ran fine coming home so I expected it would be a breeze for us to complete our business and enjoy the rest of the day. The car had other thoughts. On the way over to the BMV, the car died and I pulled it over to the side of the road. I opened the hood (had those neat gull-wing hoods and suicide doors) and started to check things out. Fuel checked out good, had spark at the points, but none coming out of the high-side of the coil. Suspected the coil went bad but wanted to confirm it so I walked over to garage/auto shop near by and asked to borrow a multi-meter. Of course no one is going to lend a stranger who just walked in expensive test equipment so the shop manager sent one of the mechanics with the test meter back with me. We got to the car and was explaining to the mechanic what I suspected was the issue and asked him to check it. He just stood there with the meter in his hand and a blank stare on his face. He didn't have a clue as to what to do. I asked him to lend me the meter and I confirmed that indeed, the high side of the coil had gone open. We went back to the shop and I asked the manager if they had a 6volt coil in stock. He just laughed and said no. I then asked him if he would call NAPA for me and have a coil delivered. He laughed a little more and said "You'll never find a coil for that around here." So I very politely asked him again if he would call NAPA and check. Still laughing (a lot) he picked up the phone and called. Laughing still, he told the counter man what he was calling for. All of a sudden he got quiet, his face turned sober and the next thing he said was "Send it over". An hour or so later NAPA pulled up with my coil, I paid the shop for the coil, returned to the car, installed the new coil, and we drove away - too late now to go out to eat. So that is my "what is the worst place you broke down" story.

The 52 Dodge series & Christmas special bus catastrophe are among my favorites!!! Because it reminds me of what I did when I was young enough to have that much care free fun ! Back in 1963 my buddy down the street had a 38 Chevy flatbed 1 ton truck who would pick me up to chauffeur me to high school. I had a rear seat out of a World War Two Jeep that I stuck into some open knots in the wood at the rear of the flat bed, so it would stay put! No seat belts they did not exist yet ! Was a wild ride! Lived through it! Thank God! Hilarious fun , endless laughter careening down desert roads in a truck and camper with it loaded with car club members bouncing off the walls of the camper! Laughing so hard you had tears in your eyes! And still do to this day! That’s what Derek’s videos remind me of! Just met up with a couple of old car club members, “brothers all” unfortunately it was a funeral for one of my brother club members and life time friend! We mourned the loss of his wife and life partner! But remembered all the fun we had when we were much younger , it was a great celebration of life! And we know she is in a much better place , to be with our lord , God Almighty! Your videos not only are entertaining & full of technical knowledge but inspiring ! Keep up the great work! …..

As a mechanic of 35 years. you are correct about the need for a thermostat. Without one you are liable to get localized :hot spots" in your block. Also without a thermostat, the engine would always lose heat to the radiator and take longer to warm up.

i would totally feel safe hanging out with the guy under any life threatening situation. never panics. and keeps his sense of humor. the worst place I ever broke down was in my 1968 ford mustang when the carburetor gave out in the middle lane of traffic and I had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. needless to say but I was white knuckling it until I could pull over. one other time it didnt break down but I went down a hill on a breezy day and my convertible top blew open because the latches were shot.

Worst place I ever broke down was in the fast lane, at the traffic lights, and first in line during peak hour traffic with a huge line-up of cars behind me. The little brass inlet tube had fallen out of the mechanical fuel pump. Tapped it back in with a block of wood and popped the hose back on and away we went again. That was after I had to push it through the lights and around the corner to a safe parking spot.

Almost the same! Busy intersection, Hwy 501 in Myrtle Beach, SC, Friday @ 5 pm. My Chevy 1500 quit. First in line at light. A County police woman stopped & pushed my truck out the road before I knew she was doing it! By hand. The fuel pump in tank, had separated. I had been resisting getting a cell phone for years. I knew it was time then.
