I have nothing against either of these brothers based on what we see here, and I understand that they were the focus of this story. But the Kenyan runners are each individual athletes with their own ambitions, struggles, and stories - they aren't some national monolith to defeat. It would have been nice to at least have heard a few of their actual names.

Bummed we didn't learn more about their day to day living. ie how do they make money and pay for their living? how does they visa allow such an extended stay? do they speak the language? are they actually being coached and/or are they under a shoe deal to where they're being put into different races? Great idea and story opportunity, but I think it caters to such generalities it doesn't answer questions that runners want to know. Also would've liked to know their events and times- In my experience, to talk to run novices (likely the audience of this thing) you need to say, "They're running that last lap at a 4:50/mile, and so you know, the world record for the mile is 3:40 and change, so they're flying...", etc. But all in all fascinating story.

Any Kenyan who went to school learned English. However, unless a Kenyan is in the business world or work force, English is almost a third language to most in up country as one would mostly speak their mother tongue then Swahili. English is spoken as needed based. Like now the people who live where these 2 boys are might only need to speak English while communicating with them but use local language to communicate with locals.

Genetics + hard work = world dominance. Hard work = good results, but not always world dominance or even close to it..... These twins have been training 10 years with the best of the best, and still aren't close to beating the people they train with. They will break plenty of NZ records though and do better than most for the hard work they're putting in. Genetics = key. The heat radiating and energy saving properties of the Kenya people is real.

What those guys have done in the sport is incredible. I've lived and trained with some of the worlds' top runners. They are a big reason I was able to run 2:19:35 for the marathon. It is a mindset you have to have in order to compete at the higher levels. Jake and Zane are FAR better than I ever was but it really all just comes down to how badly do you really want it. Eric Thomas said it best "When you was to succeed as badly as you want to breathe...then you will be successful".

BOTH, Kenya n Zew Zeland twins, training hard, the odds are on Keyna, CZ NZ bros do NOT have 60K yrs gene. Running 1/100 the second decide win like swimming, if there were third with such distance, they have NO hope beating Kenyans, but nice try, EVEN if U, white dues, were born in Kenyan, WDs do NOT have 60K genes n they would not likely be the world champs, may be one of regular marathon races, but NOT Olympic or the World Championship, I have not read any white dues won, have anyone?

I was in Portland Ore for the Cascade Runoff, a 15km race. I was born in Cork City Ireland (mother/baby home) and at 3 some great parents n family took me into California where I was raised. The day before the race as I was crossing a street, a Kenyan asked me the start time. After I told him, I asked him how he knew I was in the race (dressed in street clothes...naked and a spear)....he looks at me and says "come on man, one runner knows another!" And thats why
