Bummed we didn't learn more about their day to day living. ie how do they make money and pay for their living? how does they visa allow such an extended stay? do they speak the language? are they actually being coached and/or are they under a shoe deal to where they're being put into different races? Great idea and story opportunity, but I think it caters to such generalities it doesn't answer questions that runners want to know. Also would've liked to know their events and times- In my experience, to talk to run novices (likely the audience of this thing) you need to say, "They're running that last lap at a 4:50/mile, and so you know, the world record for the mile is 3:40 and change, so they're flying...", etc. But all in all fascinating story.

The crazy thing is that the best distance runners aren't from all over Kenya. They're all from one town in Kenya. It's like saying the best basketball players in the world only come one town in one state in the U.S
@wokewatch85086 жыл бұрын
exactly. You train with the best....
@deanking61056 жыл бұрын
Nah!! You do not know what you are saying, david rudisha, yobes Ondieki, douglas Wakihuri, paul ngugi, Andrew Kimanthi, the list is endless, these athletes come from different parts of Kenya, that picture your are painting of one town is very oriental, they could go to train in Iten because of brother Colm and the legacy he has built there but, they come from different parts of the country. I guess you are the rationalist who believe in culture than practice.

@@deanking6105 thankyou!!!!most runners in Kenya come from different places we have big stars like omanyala and Moraa coming from different parts of kenya

Why do they still run for New Zealand if they’ve been living in Kenya for 10 years?
@kiswahilikitukuzwe25475 жыл бұрын
It is because they are still not good enough to make the Kenyan team.

@SANKU just because Kenyans hadn't been competing on the world stage doesn't mean they "weren't good" until some of them had the means to compete against westerners. Do you think black Americans weren't good at basketball until they were allowed to compete in organized white leagues?

What jake says from 8:36 to 9:01 is exactly how I feel after races as well. I thought I was always crazy for thinking that, but I guess a lot of people think that way too.

I was in Portland Ore for the Cascade Runoff, a 15km race. I was born in Cork City Ireland (mother/baby home) and at 3 some great parents n family took me into California where I was raised. The day before the race as I was crossing a street, a Kenyan asked me the start time. After I told him, I asked him how he knew I was in the race (dressed in street clothes...naked and a spear)....he looks at me and says "come on man, one runner knows another!" And thats why
