Synopsis | Crimes of Comrade Duch (2010)
David Scott and Ron Dean. Two Australians, two of the millions of people who died in the killing fields of Cambodia. Back in 1978, they set out on a sailing adventure that would end in one of the world's most notorious jails. Victims of a monster called Comrade Duch. Like so many casualties of war, their story was largely forgotten, filed away in the too hard basket. But there was one man - an Australian lawyer - who refused to forget. And now, after 30 years, finally there's justice. This month, an international tribunal delivers its verdict on the terrible crimes of comrade Duch.

I lived through the Khmer Rouge genocide. Not only those in this so called S-21 prison were killed, but every where throughout the country. I lost many relatives through forced labor, starvation, disease, and killing. I was about 7 years old when this happened. So thankful to be alive today.

There's a story about two people, a husband and wife who had kept silent about their medical knowledge while all of the others were rounded up and killed. Every day they had to walk with a group of people to be "reeducated" along a dirt path and then to a boardwalk out to a building on stilts for their "education". If you stepped off the path the mines would kill you if the soldiers didn't shoot you first. Sometimes the soldiers would start randomly shooting into the group just to see people run into the minefields and explode. As the group was doing its mantras praising their leader an explosion was heard just before a woman ran into the building. It was after the last medical person had been killed by roughly 3 months. "Our leader was on his way to graduate you but he stepped on an unexploded mine." "Is their anyone here who has medical training?" "We made a big mistake in getting rid of the medical teams and we need someone to save his life." The husband doctor and wife nurse raised their hands and the gaurds siezed them and took them outside and shot them. It was only a ruse to get the last of the educated people killed. Research everything and stay educated to protect yourselves from being manipulated by the media services.

No. Its neo-liberalism thats bad. Look at the societal breakdown in the US. Poverty and crime ridden drug addled streets. China, on the other hand, is a thriving modern socialist success story. A billion people raised out of poverty. The decaying de-industrialised West has nothing to compete with it.

Why was this piece blurred so often? And why wasn't there an explanation? It looks like a 'mockumentary' rather than an highly researched and dependable source for horrific crimes against humanity. Please if you intend to "hide" something from the viewer explain why. We are adults choosing you as a source and want to rely on your coverage. Even more so that it is a historical event and reliable visuals can be found now.

30 % of the blames go to the Chinese for providing weapons to the Khmer Rouge. 30 % of the blames go to the US for bombing Cambodia which cause the rise of the Khmer Rouge. 30 % of the blames go to the king for not controlling the border and telling the people to join the Khmer Rouge. 10 % of the blames go to Lon nol for trusting Henry Kissinger and helping the CIA to overthrow the king . Chinese expansionism needs to be stopped. China 🇨🇳 has just built a railway from China to Laos, then extending it to Cambodia, where it has a naval base. - Chinese expansionism needs to be stopped.

What an ignorant comment. China is not an imperialist country. They dont seek to expand, like the colonial powers of Europe did in the 19th century and the US has through the 20th up to the present, starting wars and causing trouble all over the place. The railways and other infrastructure projects are partnerships with various countries to improve the world. China builds, while the US destroys. Sure, it also benefits them economically, but its a win win situation. Ignorance, jealousy and paranoia informs minds such as yourself, and so you make what is positive negative.

Thank you for featuring this report, which made the case of Scott and Dean so much more vivid. Unfortunately, their odds of survival were minute: throughout its existence, S-21 had held a total of 15 000 inmates, but only seven survived. Roughly 80% of the inmates had been purged Khmer Rouge soldiers and cadres (many with innocent blood on their hands). One small correction, however: the Khmer Rouge never proclaimed a "Year Zero" (they used the Western calendar).

@@vanessam9251There are other documentaries right here on KZbin which manage to convey the message and do so by giving it the due diligence of actually showing its reality. This is pissweak, pardon my Sumerian. They didn't have to do this. It's insulting, it's patronising and it's weak.

@@ivareskesner2019 I understand that but it still gets the message across. Better to speak about it than further repress it. Yes they can continue to show these scenes and KZbin can keep them up but it gets repressed from the algorithm unless it's something you're specifically looking for.

@@vanessam9251 You're right. It's better than nothing. It's just that it's a wasted opportunity as well. They could've done so much better without being pushed to the back of the queue by that pesky algorithm. Feels like they've played it way too safe. And, most importantly, it makes the video near unwatchable. Anyway. That was my little whinge. I hope you are having a nice Sunday, dear lady. All the best to you and yours.

My condolences to the families of 1.7 million Cambodians🇰🇭 who are genocide victims of the Khmer Rouge forces, a puppet of the Chinese🇨🇳 regime. Under Beijing's order, the "Killing Field" forces killed *one third of the Cambodian population.* The rest was saved by the invading Vietnamese forces in 1979. - Now the Cambodians become scammed victims of the Chinese expansionism in the South China Sea to futher its repressive regime.

Pol Pot was partially supported by the USA because of his anti-Soviet tendencies. Even after Pol Pot’s massacres were revealed, the US was one of the only countries to still support Pol Pot’s seat at the UN and in fact continued to support them at the UN even after they were toppled by Vietnam. "You should tell the Cambodians that we will be friends with them. They are murderous thugs but we won't let that stand in our way." - Henry Kissinger American historian Michael Haas, also corroborated by Singaporean diplomat Bilahari Kausikan, that the USA provided weaponry to the Cambodian government covertly by as much as $10 million annually, and the US continued supporting Pol Pot in exile.
