Back in the 1960s trans Canada airlines had these these planes. We used to fly from Windsor Ontario to Gander Newfoundland. A few stops along the way. It was fun. Those engines were tyne turbo prop, they screamed a bit. I loved the ride.

I used to fly in BEA Vanguards from London to Malta to visit my grand parents in the school holidays This was late 60s to early 70s

Wonderful Michael!! A nice long sector on a Vanguard. And a wonderful destination too. The sounds of the Tyne engines I really like. It is too bad the Vanguard era came to an end in the mid 1990s, I think the final Hunting / Air Bridgd Vanguard flight was in 1996, possibly early ‘97. Another decade would have been nice too.

How much time took the flight from London to Malta?

I cannot really remember but I think it was about 3.5 to 4 hours. . About an hour longer than on a Trident Jet @@canerguener8664

Flew on both viscounts and vanguards as a child and my lasting memory of these was the unpleasant high pitched whine of the engines.

A lot of aviation fans miss the unique sounds of Dart and Tyne engines today as it is a sound from so many decades ago. What I would give to have another flight in a Viscount or Vanguard.

@@JetFlix Maybe so, but I wonder if they ever had to endure a long flight in one. Of course as a child one's hearing is a lot more sensitive to high pitched sounds so that may be why I found it unpleasant.

@@R0swell5104 I remember flying in a storm in a vanguard. The Tyne engines sounded like they were Labouring under the strain. Perfectly normal of course but to a child was quite scary.

I flew these for Air Bridge in 1988. Interesting machine, watching the start from the outside was awesome, while inside it was a bit of a rigmarole! Thanks for uploading. 👍

You can say that again. My DAD worked for CapitaL Out of MKE. As a child I flew on the Viscount.
