This was recorded on November 5, 2021 at the Arlington Music Hall in Arlington, Texas. This was Vicki Lawrence: A Two Women Show. She was hilarious. If you watch The Carol Burnett Show or Mama’s Family, you will love her stage show.

Many do not realize that Vicky was an aspiring singer before acting. Such gifts she has given us.

Very few artists can still sing their hit songs from 50 years ago!

You know, she was 72 here. I think she did pretty good!

@@artsyminecraft6386 I think it's great that you enjoy the performance. Art is fantastic and it can be interpreted so many different ways. From a professional standpoint, and I am one, age is not a factor with breath control and pitch. 72 is not too old to sing well. This is something totally within a singers control. What she lacks is the technical ability in the music dept. But that does not mean that people will not find her enjoyable. I have heard her many times, and her heart is not in this performance. She does this because the fans want it. This is a professional opinion and not from a regular fan. It's not a personal thing against her. I actually like her very much. But she's just not a singer.

🙄 "from a professional standpoint," and THERE is where you are a step "ahead of," or "above," or whatever, of an average or typical fan of any particular song or performer. Understood, I guess. You could have just abstained, instead of the "aweful" comment, since your professionalism is obviously about the technical aspects of vocal performance, eh? So, Reba recorded a "better" version (in a lot of ways) later on, which is better known by folks under, maybe 50. Or even 40. Trying to be fair, here. Timing is everything. Ms. Lawrence's cover hit the US Billboard Hot 100 at #1, however briefly, in the 1970s. Ms. McEntire's cover made US Hot Country Songs (Billboard) at #12, maybe 20 years later. To be able to vocalize well (on key, reasonable pitch) at any age, is good. Ms. Lawrence is not one of those high falutin' voices of rock, country, blues, jazz, gospel or what have you, and yeah, she is not/was not ever aiming for that. I can think of at least a dozen "artists" (vocalists, different genres), whose voices are pretty much trash, but it's what they do with a particular song, or sound. Or better yet, who they knew/know & connections. Because "art" in music, often includes business & influence. None of that was on Ms. Lawrence's dance card. So... out of PURE curiosity. Give me one name (or however many) of someone over 70 who sings well, in a technical sense. I have nothing but time.

Sure, Dolly Parton, 77, Olivia Newton-John before she died at age 73, Helen Reddy 72 when she retired, Agnetha Faltzkog,(ABBA) 73, Frida Lingstad (ABBA) 77, Carol Burnet, age 90 and still can sing great. Ms. Lawrence does not have a genre. She recorded one album that I am aware of when she was in her 20s and she was off-key in that as well. She is what they call a one-hit-wonder. It was because her husband at the time was a record producer who exploited her spot on the Carol Burnet show that got her that record. Had she not been a name already, trust me, there is no way would she have been picked up by a record label. I was being generous calling her an artist. She is a D-List celeb. She is a one-trick pony. She has done exactly zero since her mama's family stint. Singing one song, and playing one character does not an artist make. Save for an ill-fated chat show in the 90s that did not get renewed. It does not matter that she got lucky and got a gig on a 1970s variety show. She has not done anything substantial since. Reviving a single character is not Art. Neither is singing one song that was recorded 40+ years ago. Age is not a factor for breath control or pitch. She was awful and I stand by that.

@@jonathannelson4518 Dolly lipsyncs. And do the others still sing? The point is, 50+ years later and you like it well enough to want to listen.
