I had the privilege of tuning the piano for Mr. Borge at the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center. I went out into the hallway to find my wife, and heard a rattling at the door. I opened it, and there he was in a tuxedo and a baseball cap. I said, "Mr. Borge, I'm your piano technician." He replied, "Oh, I'm sorry. I made you work!" That delightful, kind man was as funny off stage as he was on stage.

Thank you to all who have commented on the joy this video has brought to you. I took this from a video cassette my parents got when I was a Child. I thought it a worthy addition to the “archives of the internet” for others to enjoy. Seems to me he had a beautiful innocent irreverent quality to the logic of his performance, and he was truly a performer, these qualities perhaps a factor to his timeless appeal. I grew up on the BBC’s Goon Shows, an influence from my uncle. I find the comedy similar to that of Spike Milligan, Peter Sellars and Harry Seacombe - Truly amongst the original greats of comedy, whose jokes have been retold in various ways since, but originated by them. 😊

Classical music is still popular centuries on. Comedy based mostly upon it is too. The real mystery, if there is one, is simply why it isn't _more_ popular and well known. Everyone seems to want something new these days. New is absolutely no measure of how great a thing is. Imo, quite the opposite, usually. New stuff can be good, obviously. I met him, brought him a glass of water; he was SO easy to talk to, a real gentleman. That must have been my first encounter with a celebrity; it was so exciting for a 21 year old. I will always remember that. RIP.

I'm 73 now, but every time Victor Borge was performing o TV when I was little, my father would run to tell us he was on. We gathered and howled with laughter. He was a unique and talented treasure.

I remember Victor Borge from when I was a child. My dad told me about him and we used to laugh until our stomachs hurt. He was brilliant. Modern humour isn't funny at all and what baffles me is that people laugh at it! The greats are no longer with us, such as Norman Wisdom, Morecambe and Wise and Victoria Wood. Victor Borge was unique and his delivery spot on.

I was in grammar school when Victor Borge came to our school and performed (Burbank, CA). It was right after WW2 and he hadn't been in our country very long. Young as I was, I was impressed with his music and his humor.

Ive watched this several times over the last year. It nurtures me and reassures me of a better time. Those truly we the fun years and a life was really more simple. Yes there were those who suffered horrible discrimination, and many healing medicines hadn't been developed yet, but Sunday night was the night when my generation turned on the black and white television and watched the best talents ever. They truly paved the way for every generation to follow but will never duplicate... Its too bad so many young people will never know and cannot imagine how important performances like this were to us, thrilled us, and made us laugh.

That's why we grow old and die. We're in the way of progress, be it good or bad. I can not help comparing it to not having interest in, and knowing what it was like to endure an Indian attack while trying to move into an untamed west. Still, it seems more and more important to me that we should be able to somehow be able to recall and experience viscerally, without the benefit of knowing the future, to be able to experience the agony and the wonders of the past. It would frighten me to be transported to a mideival time to witness the struggle and hardship they endured but, if science ever figures out how to transport us to anyplace in the past that we want, I'm sure it would help to put things in better perspective, and put humanity on a much better coarse.😮

No smut, no innuendo, no swearing, how can this be comedy? Genius!

bobanob1967 ? There was some innuendo in places... for example - sticking things out in cold places.

There are! But they are presented so cleverly without insulting the audience's intelligence.

So glad to listen to a comedian who is really funny without resorting to swearing, shouting, prurience, or any of the stock-in-trade of so many contemporary acts. But alas, there was only one. Thanks for the laughs Victor.

I saw him on TV when I was 7.... I'm 39 now. What a nostalgic trip! I really wish there were someone else in today's age that was just as good as him ... if not better. Such simple humor was so amazing .... Now days everyone has to spruce it up and dramatize. And no, it isn't because simple humor isn't funny anymore, its because people want to complicate the hell out of a simple laugh. JUST MAKE ME LAUGH.
@darkzak47 Жыл бұрын
Think what is really amazing about Mr. Borge is this incredible ability to process complicated music and at the same time have another part of his brain be doing the comedic part. Most people would just be happy to play a complex piece of music and all their effort and focus would be singularly directed at it. Imagine being so talented at the piano, that it’s almost “an afterthought” to him

His (somewhat) dry-type humor is/was the GREATEST. He would come across as 'serious' but then, he 'gotcha'. Loved him & his complete style of doing, even, seriously, his music.
