Hillsdale College

4 жыл бұрын

Victor Davis Hanson spoke on October 2, 2019 during the 175th anniversary celebration.
Victor Davis Hanson, the Wayne and Marcia Buske Distinguished Fellow in History at Hillsdale College, is also a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and a professor of classics emeritus at California State University, Fresno.
Dr. Hanson earned his B.A. at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his Ph.D. in classics from Stanford University. In 2007, he was awarded the National Humanities Medal, and in 2008, he received the Bradley Prize.
He is a columnist for National Review Online and for Tribune Media Services, and has published in several journals and newspapers, including Commentary, the Claremont Review of Books, The New Criterion, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Hanson has written or edited numerous books, including Wars of the Ancient Greeks, A War Like No Other: How the Athenians and Spartans Fought the Peloponnesian War, and his latest book, The Second World Wars: How the First Global Conflict Was Fought and Won.
Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.
The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.
By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

Victor has that confidence that can only come from having well thought out views. As Christians we have the same confidence, thousands of years of oral & written traditions, yeah, the current Pope may have some wacky social views, but the strength of all the doctors of the Church and knowledge of One God and the Incarnation and the Holy Spirit overcomes all missteps.

This can all be traced back to the Pill and it’s insidious effect. We are well becoming lazy minded, and squander time because without the fear of God the left is going to live forever in their creepy self delusions. Who much more selfish can we become? Principals and good character and Laws are all bendable and in many cases, nullified. If Trump doesn’t win in 2020, we’re all over. If he does win, 2024 may well be our own Dead Line.

Will to Power Lots of chatter, but people may have wrong ideas about in what matter to use and when. Right now, the people need to start showing up at their local town/city meanings demanding removal of foreign ACTORS from their courts and tax collector offices. And, demand a local Police department display of their force swearing allegiance to THE PEOPLE...not a foreign system. And, the people need to realize there are good men and women on their police forces that risk their lives to actually serve, protect, and defend them in emergencies. And, those officers need to file whistleblower complaints on those who should not be there because bad actors will be a stain on the entire department, which is how things have gotten so bad in communities. All that being said, a good many people would like nothing more than to have troops shut down Congress until every member is reviewed by investigators with direct criminal referrals into military TRIBUNALS.

C Green It is a FACT that the US is in the middle of a cultural revolution. So far, it has mostly been with words, but I believe that will change. The Marxists in what was the Democrat Party LIE to the people in Public hearings, the so called PRESS have made a mockery of Freedom of the Press. They Publicize a False narrative to promote their Marxist Agenda. Marxist Activists have been trying to eliminate the Electoral College in order to take the rights of middle America away from us. They want a direct Democracy so the can jam their big city way of life down the throats of rural people that wouldn't be caught DEAD in a big city. Politicians like Senile Nancy Pelosi lives in a walled mansion with armed guards in the SF bay area. Big mouth Maxine Waters owns several large, expensive homes and lives in a Mansion that is not even in her own District, which is required by Law. Both of these two Traitors are millionaires. They have both had financial projects approved in their Districts approved by Congress that directly benefited them. In a different time of our country's History, these two phonies would have been HUNG. Instead, we observe and hear the garbage these Traitors say to the Public as a matter of course. Apparently, the only way to stop it is with Civil War. Keep your guns, you're going to need them.

I'm assuming they have paid full time guards around the property, not just Congressional armed guards. I don't know about Maxine Waters houses and her mansion, but AFAIK, she's not in San Francisco. Waters isn't qualified to be a waitress in an all night diner. I've flushed better human specimens down my toilet every morning that either of those two Traitors.

We must all not just watch and take notes about what this great man says but also taking his message and sharing it to our friends and family. God bless.

The perspective he provides to today's political debate is invaluable. That many Americans have forgotten what has made this country unique in its ability to provide for the great benefit of its citizens and the world is hugely lamentable. That some politicians will denigrate, rather than celebrate, our country's greatest is deplorable.

Absolutely brilliant... Hanson is the bomb on so many levels and what bothers me is that he's not being picked up by what's being deemed the "intellectual dark web". That while they are purporting to be "libertarian" or "classical liberal", seem afraid to bring this man on to their shows. I never understood the respect given to George Will. He is an idiot. One of the main reasons he gave for the impossibility of removing 10 million illegals was because it would take 200,000 buses. Only if they all had to leave on the same day. 200 buses once a day could remove all the illegals in just a few years. But I never graduated from Yale like Will.

Throughout this talk by VDH gives such an excellent breakdown of what is going on in politics and culture, and by the end of the questions he just nails it all, with distinguishing the two differing views that boil down to the choice between arrogant, dismissive of others progressivism or a balanced realistic conservativism that just sees things as they are and tries for an optimum approach that does not let one side laud it over the other; requiring both to parties to play by sane and constructive principles and the rule of law. Victor Davis Hanson says it best and I will listen to this talk again and take notes.

I could see it happening, but apathy runs deep and the local politicians know how to sell snake oil very well. Streets are covered in human waste. Mismanaged government funds. Did you know it costs $75k to house a prisoner in a concrete box and be fed crap school lunches? That's more than a year at Harvard! How about the bullet train? MIllions....vanished. Lot of rich politicians though. Unironically if you look at these major cities that are failing. They are made up of many smaller cities/counties. The counties the politicians live in are clean. The police keep the homeless across the street...across the county line. I listened to a speech that suggested the National Gaurd would have to be deployed to CA when it finally collapses under it's own weight. Being the 5th largested economy is a farce. Building owners across the city allow Air B&B in their units when there is what is becoming an extreme housing shortage. Recent numbers put homeless in LA at 60k every night. Anti-Vaxxers are endlessly attacked to cover for uncontrolled immigration and the diseases that come with it. CA politicians preach sedition through their Social Media. Yadda yadda AMA

VDH's vision of nationalism is a suicidal proposition. In order for it to work, he would have to convince vast swaths of minorities not to engage in tribalistic identity politics, and he is never going to be able to do that. All he is doing is pacifying the White Communinty into not defending themselves as a group, even though they are being attacked as a group. Just look at his audience at 33:30 it's ALL White people. Not a single minority in the audience.

What is Nationalism? Simply, it is a natural pride for you nation and all nations have it. Not only do the people of all nations have this, no nation would survive as a nation without it. Nationalism was a main factor in the saving of England during during ww2, then called the Blitz spirit. Any nations history is the backbone for it's nationalism(good or bad). For today's Globalist the policy of not teaching America's good history and only focusing on it's bad, is an agenda to prevent young people from developing pride in their nation. Nationalism of course like anything else humans do can be good or bad. An example is the old west town that comes together to put out a fire (good), but coming together to form a lunch mob( bad). I thought your lecture was very good and informative and you are one of the reasons I contribute to Hillsdale College. Thank you! PS. Just a thought here. God said; "I alone establish all nations", this statement gives a person a good idea how he would feel about globalism.

What a wonderful historian, orator, and mind Hanson is. This speech should be required listening because it broaches very important subjects that I think many don't understand, that Hanson does a great job of clarifying. His explanation of the importance of citizenship, the differences between versions of nationalism(good and bad) the Constitution, where the societal erosions are along with institutional foundations, and even how "cancel culture," mobocracy, elitism(transnationalism), and technocratic hegemony, are all discussions that need to be had and made clear. Hanson's speech is invaluable here, and I hope many pay attention closely. He almost seems both concerned and saddened by the state of decay in this great country, and even internationally; especially since the ability to get out of this rut is available in many ways and we seem to be encouraging our own demise. Good stuff. Gave me some stuff to think about.
