Excellent reproduction! How did you deal with equalization? The RIAA standard was still about 20 years in the future. And was it microgroove or 78 standard? Did you use any noise reduction?

Thank you, Bigfoot Mangiacavallo, for your kind comment and queries. I use a specialist-built valve pre-amp with controls capable of variable equalisation for all types of acoustically and electrically recorded discs, laterally or vertically cut. In addition, the facilities of two record recording and re-mastering computer programs are employed and used judicially according to the nature of the type of input signal. If it sounds right, then the settings must be correct. i also have a belt-driven variable-speed transcription turntable (with digital speed read-out) which takes records up to 16 inches in diameter, using Stanton 500 series cartridges with ten different elliptical diamond stylus sizes. The LP record played is pressed on a form of vinyl called "Victrolac" with narrower groove spacing and a speed of 33⅓ rpm. As far as I remember it was played with a 2-thou stylus. The only noise reduction was very slight high-frequency "Click and crackle" removal . As you can see from my other videos I also use, on certain shellac discs, a 1935 Expert Senior acoustic gramophone that one listener said "sounds better than my stereo".

@@expertsenior6262 Wow! You are really into this in a big way. Best of all, you've combined the science with sensitive, acute hearing, to extract the best out of these precious documents from the past. Bravo!

Thank you once again, Bigfoot Mangiacavallo, for your kind comment. It amazes me how well the recordings of the past can sound with proper playback and remastering -- dispelling once and for all the description "scratchy old 78s" (and 1931 LPs!). There is no reason why they can't sound marvellous.

Thank you for your comment. It's the first one I've seen in 50 years of collecting; and then I had to buy it from America. Hope you can eventually find one.
