I read a book on Lustig when I was 14 in 1964 "The Man Who Sold the Eiffel Tower." I was fascinated by his story- it turned on light bulbs that as a naive boy I had never considered. I was surprised 10 years later when Lustig's con on Linus Merton was the basis for the movie "The Sting," starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. The movie won an Oscar for "Best Picture" and "Best Director" and also one for the "Best Writing, Story and Screenplay Based on Factual Material or Material Not Previously Published or Produced". That was a stretch. The story was in the book on Lustig but it was not a well known book that I bought in paperback for 95 cents at the drugstore. The movie also introduced a new generation to "Ragtime Music" and Scott Joplin. I don't know where Simon found his source material for the Biographics but he follows the original book I read to a "T." I re-read that book several times trying to figure out how Lustig played his marks. That book, and Ian Fleming's "James Bond" books were big influences when I was a teenager. They helped shape my career later as a commercial loan officer lending millions of dollars to corporations. You have to think like a con man in order not to get conned. It's a good lesson no matter your chosen career!

It is an official job title and would be used upon introducing oneself (e.g. "Hello, I'm Special Agent Smith with the Unites States Secret Service . . ."). Clearly, an agent working undercover wouldn't walk around declaring themselves to be a secret agent. I really enjoyed this video though. Very interesting.
