My Oxygen gage was acting up on my gas torch setup. It was doing some pretty scary stuff. I disassemble it, find the issue, and install a new kit to correct the issue.

Excellent video. I watched to see how these regulators come apart. I have two big, heavy Victor regulators with both gauges broken, flooded in Hurricane Katrina in 2005. They aren't coming back, and I am salvaging the brass in a metal casting project. Of course, the casing is stuck. Sad to melt the solid castings. Thank you.

Unless the body and cap are actually missing metal it's cheap to send them off for a rebuild no matter how hideous they look and the regulators are worth far more than scrap. When they're that crusty it's no effort to send them off and let someone else polish the bodies.

I had the exact same problem with a smaller set a few years back. My issue was that washer under the nut. Never could find a kit. And same problem welder shops didn't want to sell one for liability. I ended up just cutting a replacement gasket. If I remember right the worst thing about oxygen regulators is that the gaskets have to be special materials to not react with the oxygen. I think it was a flammability issue. I was in the middle of a project, my smaller set had a bad regulator. I have a larger set like yours, but was out of oxygen in it and the tank was expired so the welding shop won't exchange it (I need to find a place to re-certify it). and of course nothing is interchangeable between the 2 different sizes of torches/regulators

Nice video by the way!

I've got two regulator sets: 250 and 450...both blown. The O2 shoots out the pressure relief- I believe that's where yours was exiting as well.

Very Good Video! Mine did the same think. The welding shop charge me $80 to rebuild it. They made me think there was some magic happening inside the regulator and it would be dangerous for me to rebuild it. I should have known. I really like the way you think. Slow, taking your time, covering all the bases. You didn't say anything about cleaning any of the parts. How did you clean things. FOR HANDYMEN, NO LUBRICANTS WHATSOEVER!!!!! Could explode!

Do you have a link to that kit? I have the same set and same issues so, looking for that kit now

Thanks for letting me know that part's can be obtained. It's my understanding that rosebuds can draw down fuel gas dangerously fast if that tank is not big enough. Check vales and flashback arresters are recommend to mitigate the effects of this situation.

Flashback arrestors for sure. I think they cost me about $35 for the pair.

I just rebuilt my 450. I didn’t wash my hands before I started. I wiped everything on the inside with a clean rag. Can the oils on our hands really cause issues? I haven’t tried the Reg. yet as I only use it once or twice a year.

It's wiser to clean with acetone which I do. Many get away with it but I won't tell anyone to do it because I don't.

Yikes! Why would you ever need pressure that high??
