Ya they’re awful. They protect a pick for one year (also they only can protect it certain numbers, like T5 T3 w/e) then it becomes unprotected. It’s ridiculous, how hard is it to protect a pick for minke years? And allow you to protect a pick for anything you want? At least add more presets…like T16, T14, T12, T10, T8, T6, T4, T3. Something like that. And at least allow picks to be protected for like 3y max, that seems like a reasonable compromise. If you wanna protect a pick like T10, T6, T4…or T14, T10 why not? Even just TWO years would be an improvement.

I love the 10 year rebuilds! One thing for the league realignment you should move the Timberwolves to the central division, they are really close to the bundle of the bucks, pistons, bulls etc. and the pelicans and grizzlies play teams in Texas who are really close to them.

I actually think a package revolving around the two ATL 1sts back, ATL swap, and Vassell is a really good package. Vassell is on a good deal and is very valuable, and if ATL is gonna move Trae they really need their picks back. Idk how much interest they’d have in Jones beside for him being an expiring, (or would be) so maybe ONE more asset? Also SAS would prolly like to have Jones as a backup to Trae. Nothing crazy, Vassell + two ATL 1sts + 1 ATL swap + maybe Zach Collins for the salary…and like one more swap? I doubt ATL will be better than SAS in like 2028-30, but you never know. They could do a 2029 swap or something. But ya Vassell and their picks back is good value, idk who would offer more. Bc ATL would surely value those two picks more than like two future LAL picks, and no way they get a better young player than Vassell. Maybe if ORL was interested they could offer DEN ‘25 1st, their own ‘26 and ‘28 1sts, and a ‘27 swap? Plus Anthony Black and Jett Howard? It’d depend how much ATL valued Black & Howard…but still think the SAS package would be better. Maybe if LAL did ‘29 1st, ‘31 1st, ‘24 1st assuming NOP defers to ‘25, and a ‘30 swap (all unprotected) then Reaves, DLo’s expiring, (3rd team prolly) and they’d need to toss in like JHS and maybe one more contract to make the $ work. So 3 1sts, one swap, AR, JHS, and expiring $? Maybe that could compete…but if I’m LAL I’d rather get Dejounte for DLo’s expiring plus JHS and ‘24 1st + ‘29 1st than give up all that for Trae. Two 1sts + JHS basically for Dejounte, vs 3 1sts, a swap (maybe takes two), AR, and JHS for Trae. Ya I’d take Dejounte at that point IMO. And if you’re ORL, maybe you can go get Simons from POR for a lot cheaper than Trae. I could see POR moving him for like that DEN 1st, ORL’s 2024 1st, ORL ‘31 1st, then they could basically just take Simons in to cap space saving POR a boat load of $. I think POR would move him for 3 1sts (one being not v good) plus getting 25M off their books. I like Simons fit there too, they have Suggs who can play next to him…then Franz and Paolo. That’s an awesome 4, then WCJr/Mo Wagner at C, re sign Goga, still have Isaac on non gtd, Jett, AB, and Cole they could move or he can be a 6th man. So I think if Trae gets moved SAS makes the most sense. Also think if Orlando can get Simons that makes a ton of sense too. We shall see, bc I’ve heard a lot of Trae rumors too. They’re 10 seed in play in rn, could end up with a T10 pick plus a pick in the late teens from SAC. We’ll see if they trade those or what they do.

The new TV deal kicks in in 25-26, it’ll prolly be a 9y deal. New CBA CAN run through 29-30, but there’s a mutual opt out clause after 28-29 and that essentially always gets triggered. So that’d be about halfway through the new TV deal (25-26 - 28-29) and with the cap being smoothed, I think the big 10% cap raises will be done by then. I think it’ll go up 10% in 25-26, 26-27, and 27-28 for sure. MAYBE 28-29 too but that’s far from gtd…so I think that’s the earliest you’d see expansion is yea pretty close to the new CBA. No way there’s actual new expansion teams in the league in 28-29, or even 29-30…but I believe they’ll plan on it and write the expansion rules in to the new CBA. Like how the new expansion draft will work, what picks the expansion teams can get, how long until they have to wait until they can share revenue, all of that kind of stuff. There’d still be 4-5 seasons left of the TV deal when they write this stuff in, so that’s kind of a perfect time. You don’t want the expansion teams to get in at the start of a new TV deal, you’d like them to at least have 3 seasons or so to establish themselves before they can get that big time revenue. So ya they’d opt out after 28-29, and work on the new CBA so it’s ready for 29-30. Maybe expansion teams get in around 30-31? 31-32? That gives them like 2-3 years after they are done negotiating the TV deal to find buyers for the new franchises, and you get them in with 3-4y before the new TV deal. I think it’ll be Vegas and Seattle like 99%+. I don’t think they’ll have ANY problem finding legit buyers the owners feel comfortable with for those two teams that have the $, and are willing to pay a combined $10M+ for the 2 teams. PHX sold for 4M…so I can see a Vegas team in a few years selling for like $6B. Then Seattle is a huge market, there’s no way it sells for less than PHX. So ya $10-$12B for the two teams, I think that’s what they’d need to do it. They’re not gonna wanna cut the pie in to 32 slices instead of 30 unless they’re A. Getting teams in big markets they’ll be contributors, meaning they’ll be more profitable than average and contribute to the revenue sharing…and B. Will pay a massive sum of money. All the $ goes to the owners too, so if they sell 2 teams for $12B…that’s 12B divided by 30. That’s $400M a piece for the owners straight in to their pockets basically. And Vegas/Seattle will both be above average markets. Seattle is around 10th in the NFL purely based on media market, also it’s the 15th largest metropolitan area in the US so it’s HUGE. Washington has a larger population than AZ by like 600K ppl. I think when they get going it could easily be T10. While Vegas is way smaller…they thrive more off of ticket sales than TV. I think that has a lot to do with it being the Raiders. They would’ve been better off having a new team, bc Raiders fans haven’t rly adopted LVR afaik. NV has a similar population to UTA, it’s not much smaller than Oregon, and that’s obv just ppl who live there. The huge thing is the year round ridiculous amount of tourists they have. The Golden Knights are the 18th highest valued NHL franchise, JUST below CO, PIT, and DET. It’s honestly not far from the T10. SEA was purchased in 2018 and is already 14th, pretty much tied with 12th. Sorry for the ridiculously long post man 🤣. But ya I think you’ll see expansion teams on the court in the VERY early 2030s, 95%+ (minimum) chance it’s Vegas and Seattle. The NBA does want to do Mexico City eventually, that’s their golden goose (biggest market in North America by far) but that won’t happen this go around, maybe next time. Mexico still has a reputation, even tho MC where the arena is is SUPERRR wealthy, really safe, etc. There’s a GL team there now and the players like it. The biggest issue is elevation. Players don’t like going to DEN and their elevation is 5,280ft (between 5130 and 5690 of the entire city) while Mexico City’s is like 7,350ft which is crazy AF. Almost 40% higher.
