What I love and respect most about Mr.Wooten is that he is an incredible player and can do anything on that bass, but when the music needs it, he just grooves the cr*p out of some root notes, giving other people the space.

The solo work performed by the young lady @1:35:48 was extraordinary! The way she emoted Amazing Grace throughout her performance-the gentleness, honesty, touch, purity, kindness, sincerity, humility, creativity, innocence,-was beyond exemplary of amazing grace! It was Heavenly and Angelic!!! There was so much incredible music and musicianship throughout this video, but that young lady’s solo work stood all on its own, by creating a lulling accord in one’s spirit-just like that of a powerful healing prayer!

First, kudos to the percussion instructors for all their hard work teaching and creating an amazing environment for these young musicians. Second to Gregg and Victor. In my opinion they two of the most incredible musicians on the planet and two of the best humans you'll ever find!

The solo near the end made me terrified and sad at first, but it also made me smile and brought me tears... I have admired Wooten since the 90's, and he still has my admiration. Such courage, routine, faith and willpower to go on stage with such conditions. The wonderful career of one of the biggest bassists in history should not end with such a disease as dystonia...
@OutOfPlace0 Жыл бұрын
That courage is something I really admire. Knowing that at a given time during a performance you might really only have one or two fingers doing what you want them to, and knowing that, getting on stage and rocking it up. He tried one thing, it didn't work out, and then he leaned into it and made it more engaging for the audience. You can very clearly notice him responding to the audience, playing into that goofiness with the looper pedal to get the crowd laughing. It goes to show just how professional he really is. Whatever he has at his disposal he uses to give the best performance he can and that's all anyone can ask for. I am sure he doesn't need any pity from anyone because he is still doing what he has been doing for a long time, slapping and grooving and having a great time. All I have for him is a great deal of respect and admiration for being a phenomenal bass player, performer and teacher who inspires countless other people into playing music and for being someone who makes my days shift ever so farther away from the dull grey they would be if not for great music.

I wasn't aware of him having dystonia. I also have to look up dystonia because I don't know what it is. Django Reinhart showed the world that you could push the limits of guitar playing with just two fingers (on his left hand!), so I'm confident Wooten could do it too. Also, Jamerson only used one finger with his right hand (aka The Hook) and he completely reinvented bass playing in the process, so I have confidence in Wooten.

Love it!! Mr Wooten making mistake on Come Together and Mr Bissonette counting on Vic’s 9, these legends are human after all and I love them more for it. It’s all in the fun and musical communication makes it that much more alive. I bet they had minimal practice and trusted more on their guts and in each other. As musicians we tend to over stress ourselves with perfection that we forget it’s actually about the pure joy of performance and being together in an ensemble. Thank you so much for this.

Anyone else notice that he tuned the E string down to D for "Uptown Funk"? Kinda blows my mind that he could play the whole tune without his mind "reverting" to expect the normal notes on the E string.
