This is absolutely gorgeous, pure gold, man!! Been looking for it for years! As an average bass player I love this tune, but not been able to transcribe it myself, only was able to play simplified first loop and theme. Now I havr seen a light in a tunnel and a hope I ever can learn and play then whole tune, bar by bar at a time slowing down, note by note. God bless you and your family for ethernity, man! I really mean it! Thank you very much!

In bar 34, that 15 on the D string is almost impossible. It rings clear in the recording but in the live performance, he messes it up and it comes out muted. In the next bar, he uses his middle finger to help him bar the 15 which makes the 15 on the D easier. But barring the 15 with both fingers and fretting the 18 on the A with his ring finger is insane. I can barely do it with my pinky.
@yamezzy Жыл бұрын
Good research! Checking live versions is always good for a reality check vs a studio recording that might have been cleaned up. If there's anything I can add, rotating the barre finger slightly can flatten the edge and make it easier to apply pressure. Action is another factor, I don't know for sure but Vic might have quite low action/light touch which would help. And otherwise just practicing barring the 15 and playing all 4 strings to check for clarity. In addition it's not necessarily barre pressure that's the culprit but perhaps the finger playing the 18 sometimes touches/mutes the D string. So yeah a challenging bar for sure! There's also wrist position and angle of the bass neck which can make a difference

Ah right yeah. Well he doesn't seem to do that in any live vids I could find, so I can't double check but I'd guess it's either some kind of quick double pluck or even triple, flamenco style thing either on just the G string or across a few, like a quick thumb 1 2 across a muted ADG. the mutes sound kinda similar so it may be one string, so maybe I didn't write it quite right!
@RobertWadlow2923 жыл бұрын
I thought I remember a technique for that is to kind of push the thumb around or "through" the string downwards and bring it up again
@yamezzy3 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, yes you're quite right! I didn't really say that very explicitly in my last comment, sounds like you're talking about Victor's double thumb technique thing. When I said some kind of quick double or triple pluck, that's what I was meaning - a roll of 'thumb down, thumb up, first finger' repeated on the muted G string, perhaps

Around 3:10 to like 3:40 I’m not sure is accurate, it sounds as if way more notes are played than shown
@yamezzy2 жыл бұрын
You're right, I didn't write out that part note for note since he's improvising rhythmically over the same four chord shapes so it's open to the players discretion what they do at that point
