The thing is... it's not realistic. In Victoria 2 the capitalists operated on their own. They built factories according to demand of goods, they put money forward to construct railways, you even had a national bank where the capital of the rich is stored and multiplied through interest if another country was borrowing from you. Your job was to manage the laws of the country which determines the system at its base and warfare. Here you just build everything through your own orders. Doesn't matter if there isn't a single gram of iron in your country, no one is gonna do fuck all about it unless you yourself notice it and build the mine. That's it. In this game even the UK operates as the most backwards African nation which also happens to have a fascist regime. The only fun campaign is Japan because it's realistic, at that time Japan was a closed isolationist nation so it makes sense that you have to deal with those annoying mechanics until you trigger the Meiji restoration, westernize and open your markets only to find out that... nothing changes after you become Imperial Japan.

Majority of reviews these days are not worth listening/reading to. Not just people being more negative than what most products deserve but also people being way too positive about any product and saying that anyone giving criticism is a “hater”.

The Spiffing Brit did a good video about Victoria 3 and his livestream was even better, but as usual he went crazy exploiting everything he could in the game.

As someone whose wallet is perpetually empty, for weeks on end, due to purchasing Paradox DLCs for _Stellaris_ ,I can sympathize.

I don't really have a problem with it. I've never spent a dime on any Paradox dlc, since there are alternative ways of obtaining them for free 🏴‍☠️

What wars were in the Victorian Era? Hmmm 🤔: 1.) The Crimean War (1853-1856; fought between Britain, France, and the Ottoman Empire, and Russia) 2.) The Indian Rebellion (1857-1858; fought between the Sepoys of Meerut and the East India Company) 3.) The First and Second Boer Wars (1st War: 1880-1881; 2nd War: 1899-1902, ending literally a year after the end of the Victorian Period concluded for the Edwardian Period; Fought between Britain and the Boers, the descendants of the Dutch-German-Huguenot settlers in the Transvaal Region of South Africa, which Britain annexed without the latter's consent, even though they were already living there and had first dibs) 4.) Anglo-Zulu War (1879; fought between the Zulus and the British, who for some reason were either the aggressors in or lead armies of the many conflicts they participated in for imperialistic reasons)

American civil war, Heavenly Kingdom, some french Revolutions, Egypt and the Ottomans, Conquest of the Kurdish areas by Persia and the Ottomans, Japanese Unification, all sorts of crazy colonial shit (hundreds or thousands of wars easily). That's just off the top of my head.

I never played Vic2 so I don't know if it's a downgrade or whatever but, first impressions are really good for me. It's really fun to improve your economy and I like the little details. The war system could be better but as a whole I really like the game

Pretty much the same criticism i have, and i have played Vic 2, on that game the economy is also complicated but it is way less satisfying and also harder to work with, war was an absolute drag as well so even though the current Vic 3 system is also bad i consider it an upgrade to the Vic 2 system

An important thing to preface is that the game is still extremely new, its only been released for 3 days and I bearly have my brain around the game yet. So I think its too soon to form major opinions just yet. thats not to say I don't have any problems with it, for example I was really looking forward to doing a german unification playthrough but on the backfoot. I thought I would start as Hanover and lead the saxon people to unify with the smaller north german states. Unfortunately its coded into the game that those states will always join Prussia at a certain point. Even if you play Prussia you don't even do anything, those other german powers will just join you in random events. So thats one change I would like to see, is that its less deterministic.

Edit: Reformatted for readability Never played Vic 2 despite owning it for years and thought I give the new one a shot. My preferred series is Crusader Kings. After 17 hours of Vic3. The economy and management is fine imo, my gripe is mainly with the diplomatic and military choices. I'll get really miffed at those because it just feels wrong and makes annexing people, or press diplomatic plays a stupid waiting game for a chance to actually move your troops to the enemy. Or forces you to annex everyone along the way just to get to your intended enemy, because you cannot request military access from surrounding provinces/countries. You do not believe how often I tried to press a diplomatic play, only to find out I cannot reach the enemy 2 provinces over
