Trying those paints on different papers, going from the cheapest to a professional one sounds like a good idea to see how they will perform 🤔🤔 I usually use a mixed media paper to do my sketches, so I could like to see that kind of paper in the next video 🙆 I LOVE YOUR ART AND I LOVE YOU 💞 Thanks for doing this 🐇🌼💞

The portraits in today’s video turned out so well!! The way you mix and layer your colors is so mesmerizing to me. I think if you tested the student grade paints on student grade papers like the Canson XL watercolor paper or strathmore 400 series watercolor paper that it might show how well the paints actually perform! I’m excited for tomorrow’s video :)

Love the skin tones, these turned out beautifully. About the paper question - I was using Bee 140# cotton for a while, but I noticed over the past couple months it's almost impossible to find. They took it off Amazon and Blick, which sucks because it was SO cheap that I always felt free to swatch/mess around with it. (Maybe it had something to do with Covid factory shut downs? Boo.) Now I'm just using Arches Cold Press, since it's so reliable, more durable and the sizing allows for easier lifting. I'm looking forward to seeing which papers win the vote :D

I noticed it was on clearance at Michael's, and when I went in there a week ago the spot where it was was filled by other paper, so they very well may have discontinued it. :(

This series comes at such a perfect time for me :) I‘ve always loved to draw in sketchbooks... but recently I stopped completely because it was not fun for me anymore. But on Monday this week we had our first Uni class this semester. Online due to the circumstances. We are supposed to start a sketchbook... and if possible draw daily in it. I’m so glad you started this series recently because this motivates me immensely! I actually have fun again while drawing in my sketchbook :)

I would love to see some of daily sketches in Stilman beta watercolor sketchbooks. I bought a small one in Barnes and Nobles a few years ago and picked up sketching in it during my winter break from uni. I used artist loft gouache that I thinned down and used as watercolors (will never do that again.) Since then, it's hard to use my other watercolor papers since that one can handle the amount of water I typically use in watercolor sketches next to my moleskine sketchbook.

Hello tori, thank you very much for the video today! I want to teach watercolor to people and I'm thinking of recommending the Paul Rubens student grade as a cheap option for beginners (I'm from a country where watercolor paints are expensive, so all people start with are chalky kid's stuff and pentel watercolors). As of paper, well, cotton paper is great really. If possible, maybe a painting on arches? :O but another good option to REALLY test how these paints perform would be on canson wood pulp papers like XL watercolor or Montval, which is what people most have access to around the world. (Strathmore? Laughs never heard of her here where I live)

I think that watercolors should be tried out on different paper to find out how the color reacts to it. As others have already said, beginners use cheaper papers because all materials have to be accommodated in a smaller budget. It may be that Canson paper is cheap in the USA, I haven't seen any cheap Canson paper here in my regular art shop, it is more in the middle price range here.
