The Climber was the 4th SAK I bought, after the Hiker, Classic SD, and Farmer, and for quite a while I didn't carry it and almost regretted buying it. This was about 4 years ago. But over the last couple of years I've come to carry it more and more and at present I'm carrying it 7 days a week. Sometimes with Knipex Cobra XS, sometimes with Leatherman Squirt PS4, and sometimes with the Leatherman Bond. I upgraded the scales to black plus scales with a pocket clip (from ebay) which makes it really easy to carry and quick to deploy, and I use it several times every day. Mostly the scissors, small blade, and the bottle opener.

Great video, really enjoyed the comparison between the two knives. It encouraged me to go and purchase my very first Wenger type SAK today (Victorinox Evolution Grip 14 Swiss Army Knife). I have bought SAK's since the early 1970s when I first started working, but I always preferred the Victorinox models. However I have often looked at these evo SAK's and quite liked the look of them but never quite found the tool-set that suited me. My personal favourite has always been the explorer, which I carry 90% of the time. I'm retired now so my tool-set requirements have altered slightly and I think the Victorinox Evolution Grip 14 Swiss Army Knife fits the bill. I still have around 20 SAKs in my collection which my four Grandsons love looking at and showing off to their Scout group. Thanks again for the video. keep them coming.👍👍👍

Older 91mm scissors (around the 90s and back) have a screw in the pivot instead of a rivet.

I have a Climber, and I like it a lot. However, mine seems to have developed an issue, even though I bought it new just three months ago. Both of the outer body plates (not scales) have warped outwards by about a millimeter on the side with the main blade. Everything seems to function normally, but I am concerned with whether my SAK is structurally compromised or not. Am I right to be concerned?

That Evolution Grip is a blend between the old Wenger and Victorinox tools. It has the Wenger serrated scissors, bottle opener, awl (w/o edge), knife blade, nail file and Evo scales shape. However, from Victorinox it inherited the logo, can opener, key ring, tweezers, and toothpick. I can't tell if the corkscrew comes from Wenger or Victorinox. In my opinion, most Wenger tools were comparable to Victorinox's in terms of quality and usability, except the serrated scissors (not good at all!) and the awl, which do not have an edge and you can't bore a hole in a belt or wood. I wish Victorinox had kept Wenger in production and intact instead of making hybrid knives.

My evogrip 14 has a VICTORINOX awl. They brought that to the wegner as well.

@@burgercancook I think you're right, it comes with a Victorinox-style awl and that's better than Wenger's awl.

I like them bpth. I do agree the scissors are a bit more fucnctional on the Climber and also that the main blade does have a great shape on the Evo. Thanks for the side by side, Slippy.

Nice, I have the S557 wood. The locking mechanism competes with the blade itself for space between the liners, so the blade on that model is really thin. Not sure if it's thinner than the non-locking Evos but my guess would be that it is. Or is there a spacer there on your G14? *replaying*. Yeah looks like there is! The thinness makes it a little wobbly in comparison but I suppose perhaps it slices a little better through things. In contrast to my Pioneer X with its thick blade it's nice to have variety.

Delemonts are a good size, have the nail file and feel great in the hand. Just can’t get on with the serrated scissors, and springs always feel too soft. Just got a 91mm Companion and it’s pretty much perfect

Cool comparison and an excellent open tag response! I wonder if Dan could do a custom SAK with a standard Victorinox pattern, but a Wenger main blade lol.

They really do make angreat knife, I went out of my way to try to bend one of the knives of my swiss lot to create blade play and wasn't able to, really just fantastic quality and top notch QC. Case and opinel can't even come close to replicate it

Hey Matt 👊 I like the Evo 14, especially the contouring, grip & the spring-loaded slotted driver 👌 ⬇️ However, for me, the Climber wins hands down overall, as I prefer the 91, for my big paws etc... Especially on value, the Evo14 is on average 50% more! Thanks for sharing, ATB 👍

I have both. I love my evolution 14. But it went into the collection once I found out they will stop producing them. It’s a shame, it has such great properties that could be upgraded by Victorinox.

Interesting comparison. Not much to choose between the pair of them really. I do think the design of the scissors is better on the Climber though. Not just the blades, but the spring as well. If the spring on the Climber breaks for some reason, it's easy to fit another one. But if that happens on the Evo you're buggered lol.

I'm not a bit scissors guy but I am getting converted. It seems to me, comparing scissors, the Victorinox are a better design. I don't know if that's the geometry or what. I have used the "paracord test" with almost all and the Vic almost always tops the Wenger/Delemont. On the other hand I believe the Wenger use of a main body spring in lieu of a relatively vulnerable leaf spring is much better. I seems to me the 'snap' in my Delemont is more pronounced than in my Vics and I like that. I also like the large blade lock. It doesn't seem yours has this feature. How crazy is it that some country half way across the world can screw up an excellent tool? A wee bit larger knife, a good blade lock on the main blade, a pen and pin in the scales...we can only hope. I know the Ideal 100 mm won't come, and it's hard for a Yank from Texas to lust after a knife measured in millimeters, but hope springs eternal.
