I recently found my childhood Swiss Army Knife. It's about 30 years old. Not a spot of rust on it. It was very dirty and gummed up. Washed it in soap and water and put a few drops of oil in it and it's as good as new. 😮

Awesome to hear stories like this. It’s amazing how well these little tools hold up. Truly worth every penny.

Something else I would recommend, is whatever you carry, carry it for a month and keep track of what you use. At the end of the month you will see what you really need instead of what you think you need 😉

Thanks for a no BS, down to earth review. It gets old seeing the new latest greatest EDC “tool” of the month on many channels, lol. Many years ago, I started with a traditional pocket knife and handkerchief, just like all the adult males did in my family. In the mid 90’, I bought a Leatherman Wave and carried it daily, in several different career fields, up until the late 2000’s. I found, like you, the main thing I used was the knife and rarely used any of the the other tools. After that, I switched to some sort of SAK or locking blade knife because in all honesty, they will do 99% of what you need for EDC. Don’t even get me started on the mini pry bars, keychain tools, etc 🤦‍♂️

Nice! I used to carry handkerchiefs and pens only too. On my EDC I rarely use a knife or blade, so much so that I never considered carrying a folding knife along with a SAK. I use mostly the scissors, screwdrivers, and, believe it or not, the openers (can and bottle) and the corkscrew. Could you give me examples of how you use the knife (other than box opening)?

lol to some people EDC is more about style then anything else. a man's equivalent to a woman's jewelry. you can recognize them by the way their 'tools' never have a mark on them... :P

My new super tinker fit my new 4 inch leather belt pouch on my cargo shopping pants! I used it for 4 inch tuna can. Smooth cut. Easy once I got the angle right. Push cut! Super sharp! Diamond flatn strop to razor edges! Scissors works for finger nail repair or paper or plastic trimming!.

I sometimes carry the Super Tinker. I did add Plus scales to it so it has a pen. I also did the same to the Deluxe Tinker. Which is my current EDC knife.

Great review, liked and subbed! A solid EDC, if you want pliers add a Knipex Cobra and it will outperform the Dime & LM Squirt and compete with the larger multitools too. I carry the Climber with the Knipex Cobra XS but add a small bit driver (Wera 813, the size of a Bic lighter) but I'd recommend this over the Climber. The reason being that between the can opener driver, and the backtool Phillips, you can tackle most Phillips screws. The can opener flat driver is fine for larger Phillips (PH 2 and 3) but won't deal with smaller ones, or recessed screws, but the backtool Phillips will deal with smaller screws, or recessed ones as long as you have clearance for the T handle. Probably you can deal with 75% of screws with those 2, whereas I'm more limited with the Climber having only the can opener for those. Hence I add the dedicated driver. I've gone for this modular approach as I find I can slim down my EDC and tailor it according to my likely needs. If I am likely to need a woodsaw I swap out the Climber for a Farmer X. Other days I may want a better blade steel with one handed opening, so I swap out the Climber/Farmer and take my Spyderco Urban, and add a small Vic (Moneyclip) for scissors and smaller backup blade. Still like my Rebar but unfortunately I can't EDC it as I'm in the UK where we can't generally carry locking blades. I have a Bond too which has non-locking blades and adds a file and wire cutters but to be honest I don't really need those on a day to day basis, and I'd be missing the scissors with only that.

P.S. the Knipex pliers are also a fantastic pot grip if you're into camping but a bit spendy if that's all you're going to use them for.

If you need a plier you could buy a Knipex Cobra and wear it together with your Super Tinker, the advantage is that you can use both the plier and a screwdriver at the same time you can't do that with the Wave.

For many years I've always carried a Spyerco in my pocket along with an OLight i5T EOS as EDC. For the last 4 years i've switched to a Skeletool and its time to try something different. It now lives in my EDC sling pack. About to purchase VST as and EDC with pocket clip. Thanks for review and insight!

Great review! I think the Super Tinker is a great option for a slim carry EDC. I like the Field Master for the saw even though it's slightly thicker. I also carry a Skeletool sometimes and like you when I carry the Skeletool it's my only knife. I'm generally the same with SAKs too though. Oh on a slip joint the lock up is called a half stop.

Yeah , Ive been a Wave man for many years. Got 3 different models that vary in physical size in the hand. Was about to get a Surge but I picked up a Tinker in an outdoor store one day. Now my Wave is still in my daily bag , but the Tinker is in my pocket daily, or the Climber, or Fieldmaster. So I've kinda gone all MacGyver now, 🤣 Maybe I'm a SAK collector now,...we'll see 👍 Cheers from Oz🇦🇺

So I made up my mind to get multiple multi-tools just to see what I would actually use and where....1st I own 2 SOG(THE POWR PINT AND THE POWR ASSIST) they are very cool smooth action open. 2nd (LEATHERMAN P4) now that I enjoy using because all tools are outside don't care about the material or who really makes a tool as along as it has what I want 😉 and that is all tools outside...3rd couple of very cheap clones of the (WAVE PLUS) because all wave pat. Are up I use those around my house for what ever should come up because they are usually in one of my three tool boxes, clones are not they are very well built if used as intended...and last which are my favorites is a matter of fact I edc one for work(THE SWISS TOOL X AND THE SPIRIT X) not the longest pliers but everything else I very very very well made so leatherman sorry but victorinox is the best made multi-tools for the price....of course this is my two cents it's not law...smooth and strong clicks at each open, every tool is outside open, best freaking scissors on any multi-tool, man really can't say enough about them and now I have my eyes set on the champ or the cyber

I like them both, I carried my wave while on active duty for a long time, and was also my edc in my civilian life. As far as the scissor for the wave goes, on the thumb part as youre cutting, shift your thumb slightly to the left as you're pressing down, it will give you a cleaner cut. Sometimes like to cheat though and just find a sweet spot and glide the scissor. Im starting to carry the swiss more, i like how light it is compared to the wave where i have to wear proper pants/jeans with a belt

Yep I saw that vid too recently, you need the little keyring on it too to hold it in place. I'm thinking of carrying the Remgrit saw blade ( a spare one for my Gerber MP600) which cuts through all kinds of stuff, with my Climber.

If you are willing to file down the t-shank in key places and use shrink tubing to make it fatter, it will fit perfectly under the hook without needing keyring.

What would you prefer: Super Tinker + Wrench (Knipex for example) or Deluxe Tinker (has the pliers)???
@inregionecaecorum
@inregionecaecorum 11 ай бұрын
Deluxe Tinker, goes one better on the Super Tinker as it has the pliers, albeit the only thing that Leatherman does consistently win hands down on is the pliers, which I guess is the only reason I have one, it sucks as a knife, tin opener etc.

A Super Tinker carried together with Knipex Cobra XS or even small Channellock slipjoint pliers pretty much beats any Leatherman hands down.

My Swisschamp is 15 years old, and still performing strong. Mine has horn scales, so I con not appreciate any excess of use in them as I would if I had chosen cellidor scales. Anyway, spare scales are being sold by Victorinox, for replacement. Can not compare it to my Swisstool (or Leatherman, Gerber or any other), as they pley in different leagues. Thanks for your video!

Add the amazing Victorinox scissors to a Tinker and you have what's probably the best EDC pocket knife ever made. I could happily live forever without the parcel hook. I've used it to twist a loop into wire, but that's about it.

3:14, oops, not 30oz, you missed a decimal point. The Super Tinker weighs 84 grams, 2.96 oz. If truly was 30 oz it would be 1.88 pounds. Almost since the original Leatherman Wave was released, I have owned one. Tried the Wave as my EDC, for me it is too bulky, and heavy, thus rarely carried as an EDC. After purchasing the SAK Huntsman my Leatherman Wave went in the drawer not much used. Very much prefer the SAK Hunstman over the Leatherman Wave.

What Victorinox, that is this size, has the pen?
@aftermarket_operator1754
@aftermarket_operator1754 11 ай бұрын
That’s a great question. This is my only Victorinox, so I can’t say. I actually recently ordered a couple more that have the pen feature. I will run a comparison video in the future how they stack up against eachother. But I couldn’t say confidently right now which one has the pen, similar in size. I see models on google but unsure how it stacks up. Sorry this is probably not the answer you were looking for. I just don’t want to mislead anyone who follows me. But when I know, you’ll know!
@simonh6371

The Compact and the Swisschamp are the only 91mm models that come with the Plus scales, that is to say scales with an extra slot, with the pen inside. But my advice to you as someone who owns 10 SAKs is don't let the pen influence you too much in deciding which SAK to buy because you can buy separate plus scales in the colour of your choice, and it's easy to change the scales. I put black Plus scales on my Climber and Hiker. I prefer the Climber over the Compact for the extra tools. The price of the Climber and Plus scales combined was still less than that of the Compact as well.
