I wasn’t alive back than but did every 90s show have a side story? Like a main story and a side story that wasn’t important? Did they ever finish that side story? I watched full house and they did have a side story but it seems like they didn’t finish all with it like it didn’t matter. For example Stephanie was teaching Nicky and Alex or whatever the twins names are, how to color or something like that and she moves upstairs because it was loud downstairs and that’s all. I really with they would finish it

I feel like Dan schneider isn’t very good at writing female protagonists. Victorious, iCarly, Zoey 101, they all have main characters with no motivation and are generally “perfect”. Supporting characters in his shows are consistently more interesting than the protagonists
@infinitedreamer93594 жыл бұрын
The only exception to this are the titular characters of Drake and Josh. They both had fleshed out personalities and always had clear motivations for everything they did.And I don't think it's a coincidence that the Schneider show that most people remembered was that one. Shame that Schneider couldn't replicate what he did with D&J for the three shows you mentioned.

Indeed but from all of the sitcoms you’ve mentioned, there’s a real one character who did not portrayed “escape from realism”, Trina from Victorious (on my opinion/for example). She badly wants to be famous. Whenever she sees a producer/talent scout, she grabs the opportunity & tries to do her best in front of them but always get rejected then acts like nothing happened after that. Some people might think Trina is dumb but for me she isn’t. I salute her for having a thick skin after those rejections she’d received. Not all people are like her.

@loismcclelland67524 жыл бұрын
In my head cannon, I think all the characters go their separate ways after high school. Robbie becomes a jingle writer (he wrote all those bad news songs with Cat and Broken Glass and he sings and plays guitar), Cat slowly grows more mentally insane and becomes like her brother ending up in a mental hospital, Andre gets a record deal as a musician but after a small taste of fame, he decides it’s not for him because he sees the toxicity within the industry and instead does smaller gigs in his spare time. Beck does small parts in movies but never gets a big break and works in training other people to be actors in an acting school, Jade becomes a director and writer mostly for horror films and becomes quite popular, Trina never stops trying to become famous but along the way becomes a single mom living through the life of her genuinely talented daughter, enrolling her in beauty pageants from a young age and enrolling her into Hollywood Arts. She tries to live through the success of her daughter’s life but ultimately becomes jealous. Finally, Tori gets offered a record deal and becomes a really famous pop singer but her ego grows bigger and bigger and she eventually has a Brittany Spears like meltdown from the stress of the industry. Kinda depressing but I think it’s the most realistic ending.

I will never understand why people say That's so Raven was a rip-off of Taina. Raven was a psychic teen who wanted to be a fashion designer . Raven's friends Eddie ( a basketball player/rapper ) & Chelsea ( was all about animals/nature ) & her brother ( a scheming money hungry genius honestly ) . In terms of the parents I feel we got to know more about Raven's parents compared to Taina's & they are apart of the show more as well . Female lead wise I feel like Raven had more personality & her friends , family, boyfriend , teachers , frenemies added to that then you have Taina who's friends & frenemy personalities shined more than Taina's ( same thing can be said about Victorious ). Both have amazing theme songs & songs in general ( Taina's theme song is just Taina which isn't a bad thing ) That's so Raven let Eddie & Chelesea sing/rap more unlike Taina , it was mainly Taina singing when Maritza should've sung a lot too . I feel like That's so Raven let everyone shine and Taina somewhat let the others shine ( Honestly whenever Maritza , Taina and Renee were together they would overshadow Taina but with Raven that didn't happen much if at all because she had an entertaining personality ) . Both talked about their cultures but Raven went a step further and addressed Racism & etc.

Did anyone else ever wondered why Trina could sing on the group numbers but on the rest of the episode she just couldn't

Cause it was the cast singing not the characters

It was behind the scenes issues that caused the show to get cancelled. Nickelodeon was trying to abuse the child labor laws with the show's star Christina Vidal. Not only that, the network kept clashing with her management team (which included her mother AND her record label, MCA records). It led to Nick not renewing the show for a 3rd season, despite it being a ratings hit. "Victorious" didn't get renewed for a 4th season because of Nick "heading in a new direction", which was into kiddy garbage shows such as "The Thundermans" and "Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn".

I actually like that you included the scene where Taina questions why she isn’t getting to sing the lead part and Maritza explains in her own way that she has stronger vocals. Tori is talented; but,it’s absolutely ridiculous that in a performing arts school where there’s other students, some of whom even have stronger vocal abilities, like Jade and Kat, that she would get pretty much all major opportunities

As a person who watched Taina when It came out, I had never seen a show like it and I was disappointed about its short run. As someone else said the show was a product of it's Time. There was something about the 90's and early 00's shows especially ones dedicated to an diverse audience that had a habit of bringing in famous ppl either to play a short lived character or to have some guest star as themselves to throw a concert or perform in some way. I never would have thought to compare these two but I get it. I didn't watch victorious often and when I did I focused on Cat and Jade. If I really had to choose between the two I would chose on the last category I would have probably chosen Taina just because of the realism

With the things said about both shows, the scores at the end are not adding up. Especially the last for presentation. Also with Victorious being more modern they had social media on the show that helped with them getting roles outside of schools or opportunities for fame. In early 2000s social media wasn’t as popular or hadn’t existed like that yet so of course they wouldn’t have gotten opportunities through that. I feel like Taina did a better job with what they had for that time period and that opportunities don’t just pop out of the sky like they did in victorious

Fantastic analysis! I love Victorious and still watch it to this day whenever they play it on TeenNick. I always felt the characters deserved more credit than they got in terms of how they were written, so I'm really glad I stumbled onto your channel. As for Taina, I actually never heard of it, but as someone who has a Latino background, I'm shocked I've never even heard of it, but now I'm more compelled to check it out. Trina had more interesting concepts in paper, what if you enter an art school but with no artistic talent? And then you have her sister as an antagonist who will have all the characteristic and boring tropes of Tory. The working hard old sibling vs the raw talent. I dunno, the character potential we could´ve with those roles reversed is pretty fun.
@Fangirl4Life223 Жыл бұрын
I believe what they major in or at least what is their main focus when they're not doing school shows or plays is... Tori- singing Andre- music production Jade- writing & directing Beck- acting (and later directing) Robbie- stand up comedy (w ventriloquism obviously lol) Trina- singing Cat- all of the above (as proven in the episode with Helen making them audition again. Cat does it all, except writing and directing)
