@@KingdomOfLuke most of the real general and soldiers died in World War 1 just a few years before the "Turkish War of Independence". Turkish people has a heart that cannot live without freedom, independence. They all fought for their country, their beliefs, their traditions, their language, their flag, their freedom.. for the things that make them "Turk". This war, was legendary actually. They fought in poverty. Imagine a country just got out of a world war. Think about its people; sad, tired, poor, lost their loved ones, lost their homes, lost themselves. They didnt have "good" weapons or war plane or anything. They didnt even have enough food, clothes and medicine.. But if they didnt fight, they would be dead inside. And they did what was right.. May their souls rest in peace.. Ruhları şâd olsun..

Haluk Levent is not only a rock singer. He is a great man who leads a great orginasation called " Ahbap". This organisation helps patients who need money for their treatment, abused women or children who need to be saved and protected, poor people or children who need food, warm place or school materials. They also have strong volunteer soliciters, to defence those people's right. We can say this organisaiton is much more efficient than public enterprises.

In the end, Haluk salutes some of the most important Turkish people who fought in the battle of independence. And a detail, all of the seats are empty and the names written on those seats are also some of the most important Turkish people who fought and died in the independence war. Also in the very end, he mentions every single fighter who fought in every battlefield during world war one as Mustafa Kemal's. (Not just generals or leaders, literally every single one who fought.) The person we see in the end is Haluk Levent's grandfather, who fought and died in the independence war.
@tonyg7246

Let me add something about the names on the seats. While there are a few generals and some military people, most of them are regular Turkish people, including some women (possibly without a rank), who fought the independence war and showed heroism.

"Yaşa Mustafa Kemal Paşa, yaşa" "Yaşa" here may be wrongly translated as "Live" which is litteral translation but the wrong interpretation. Here it means "Long live, praise" which is also a representation in term "Yaşasın!" Which is translated as "Hurray!" The last bit is giving salutes to the unspoken heroes of the war.
@gokbay3057
@gokbay3057 2 жыл бұрын
A proper translation would probably be "Hail" which is unfortunately associated with Nazis. "Long live" is a translation that is accurate and gets the meaning across but is kinda clunky when put in with rest of the lyrics.

You got the meaning and the spirit of that anthem even more then some of the Turkish people. Thanks for that sincere respect you were showing there mate.. On the last part, he was saluting and showing his respects to those specific names of man and women who took very important and strategic roles during the resistance years and then the war of the independence itself. Most of those names were simple civilians or citizens from every reagion of Turkey who acted for the sake of their nation and country as civic servents, soldiers, officers, teachers, imams (like priests), resistence fighters, militia and so on, especially before the forming up of the regular Turkish army in those years.. The last guy in the picture is Haluk Levent’s grandfather who also took part in the indepence war.. Love and blessings from Turkey mate 😉 Cheers

I must say that that word in the song is literally "Flower" but is interpreted as "Martyries of the war". The song itself has no hate against any nation, yet gives kinda patriotic feeling.

The names singer mentioned and saluted are leaders of local resistances. The War of Independence had started simultaneously everywhere in Anatolia, unorganized, and without a leader before Mustapha Kemal. So they are ordinary people which organized local resistances, they are men and women, they are sergeants, privates, lieutenants, captains etc. The guy at 09:57 is singer's grandfather. The text says "he (his grandfather) had fought for 14 years along with his 3 brothers. One of them died. One had lived 40 years with a bullet in his body..." This song (march) is patriotic and about war of independence, but, for like 15 years it gained another meaning as well. Erdogan is ruling Turkey for 17 years and he is pro-ottoman. He promotes everything before the Republic and he supports everyone whoever is against republic, against secularism, sharia supporter, counter-revolutionary etc. This song (march) has become an anthem for Modern Turkish Republic and its founder Ataturk supporters. Video gives the clear message of "we, men and women, have fought side by side and built this republic together." Polyphonic orchestral music, men and women play and sing together, bow tie, man with an earring are some symbols and a message to counter-revolutionaries, sharia supporters. "we will not be oppressed and we will not become another middle-eastern country you're looking for" So it's not merely about patriotism or fight with Greeks etc.

You are correct he is saluting the names he mentioned. They are not generals but they are war heroes. Most of them not even from the military, they are civilians. Last half of the names are women. During ww1 there are so many deaths and the number of soldiers was very low. So civilians and after their death the children voluntarily went to the front. Those women, who mentioned in the video, their children go to war, they have nothing left to do without husband and children, but carry weapons and supplies to the front. Some of them even fought in disguise. Some of them organised the people for resistance because at that time Mustafa Kemal was only a commander. There is still monarch ruling the country and government run by allied powers. So there must be public resistance and they are civilian war heroes.

Hey Luke ! First things first, it was really good to see all the videos that you made for turkish songs and your appreciation means so much. And for this song, the very end is about Haluk Levent's grandfather, who fought against the enemies for 14 years with his 3 brothers in three different regions: Çanakkale, Yemen and Sakarya. One of the brothers died in the wars and the other had lived with a bullet that he had from the wars, for 40 years. Haluk Levent devoted this song to his grandfather. And about sultans, no, if you want to see ottoman's history, it had 3 parts: 1.) Establishment 2.) The rise 3.) The fall. So at The Fall part, Sultans were the ones that left the country alone. Everywhere in country was full of enemies who want to get a piece from the cake. And at those times, the last Sultan didn't do anything for independence, instead he wanted to run away from the country. So The Sultans in those times were the people that full of fear. The one, who was all fearless and want to save his country, was Atatürk. He did everything by himself at very beginning. Noone, even from the government wanted to help him. Cause the Ottoman government knew that he was a pain for their full of fear ass. But Atatürk's aim was to save his country from enemies and after a time, people believed in him and helped him, fought against the enemies at the all wars. Ottoman sultans and their followers betrayed at the country. At the end, when the Turkish Republic established, they were sent to extile. So independence of Turkish people has nothing to do with the sultans, but Atatürk.
