Eleanor's videos are the only source I know of personal renditions of the "Old Days" of the 1930s, during the Great Depression, and the 1940s, during the second world war, and how life was back then when women were so brave and creative and productive!!! I not only learn so much from Eleanor in regard to quilting, but her history lessons are invaluable... I am still hoping to find the "Quilt In A Day" video where she tells the story of how the women in the "Old Days" put together a nice wedding for a young couple when money was so tight. To prepare for a money at the least cost, a group of women would come together and discuss what needed to be done, and differenct women would take on the various chores and responsibilities...making aprons for the new bride, copying down recipes to help her learn to cook, embroidering sheets and pillow cases and towels for the new couple, who would do the cooking for the reception? Where would the nuptials be held? In who's garden or back yard? (And, of course, they would come together to make a special wedding quilt.) And then when the story ended with Eleanor telling of the "horning," I busted up laughing. Apparently, a group of the men would post themselves outside of the couple's new home on their wedding night and blow their horns loudly for a few hours, or thoughout the night... How crazy is that!!! NOTE: I think that I found that video!!! Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2HGf5icd7p3a7s (Double Wedding Ring Quilt)
