Interesting to see that Europeans are somehow dissapointed, while Ukrainians are really proud of their selection for once. Foreigners have some weird expectations, as if Ukraine should send Dua Lipa or Billie Eilish to the contest lol Also funny, how Europeans hated on GoA when they were selected by Ukrainians in 2020 and then suddenly in a year those same Europeans were questioning every entry, which did not sound like GoA. Ziferblat, Abiie, Fiinka, Masha are really great choices IMO, better then most other national selections.

I am predicting Ziferblat to take it, I think Masha or Fiinka might have a chance too, but realistically it all heavily depends on what happens live. ziferblat - there are two twin brothers in the band, last year's song was written by one brother (the lead singer), this year's song was written by the other brother (the guitarist), in one interview they joked about the competition to see whose song would be better. My absolute favorite out of the 10 is Ziferblat. I already really liked their song last year (although not as much as the one that actually won), but their new one is even stronger and it is currently my favorite song from the entire Eurovision season. The song is unique and will definitely stand out and I also expect this to work very well on the Eurovision stage, especially with how great Ukraine's staging is every year. And they had great staging at last year's Vidbir already. I personally like how atmospheric the song is, but it is definitely a little risky. If they pick Ziferblat, Ukraine's likely to be my favorite again after last year My second favorite is DK Enerhetyk, but I know that they have basically zero chance of actually winning Vidbir. But I still appreciate that this genre (I think the song is Post-Punk) is represented at all. Some people would really like the song, but I feel like it is way to niche.

I think the reason why some weaker participants, like Future Culture, (who really have a small chance of success at Eurovision), got into the shortlist, while Fiinka (definitely a stronger choice) didn't, is next one. Over the years, Vidbir became in Ukraine more than just a way to choose a representative at Eurovision. Vidbir now is the only show where new unknown artists can get an audience of millions of people and become much more popular. So, producers try to put in the shortlist participants that can show to the public and to the world the most variety of our music. To show that we can have promising artists not just in "new folk", but in other genres too. Fiinka's song has similarities in genre with Abiє and maybe even with Masha and Ziferblat (all of them have folk elements), while Future Culture is the only soul-like band, which makes them unique in contrast, and I think that is the main reason why they were chosen. This mindset worries me a bit because now the goal of Vidbir is to not only choose the most competitive song but also to give new artists a chance to shine, even if they are of the mediocre quality.

"Vidbir became in Ukraine more than just a way to choose a representative at Eurovision" - Interesting, as that's just like UMK in Finland now, it's the biggest domestic music show and nearly all entries become domestic chart hits. This year, Ukraine does not have a song that can claim a high place in the ESC entertainment competition. Ukrainians have been living in another world for three years - in hell, without electricity, heat, water, under massive rocket and bomb attacks. They are methodically destroyed daily by the Russians. They are waging a heroic struggle for the survival of their nation with an incomparably larger and more powerful aggressor - the Russian Empire. Therefore, Ukrainians do not write entertaining songs, their songs are full of pain, grief, suffering, tears, despair, faith, hope, because this is what the Ukrainian people live with today. Therefore, I will give my vote for the song by the ZIFERBLAT group. Their song is an exquisite aesthetic, a special charm, a wonderful taste, it is Ukrainian ethnicity, depicted in the musical colors of The Beatles, Queen, and Ocean Elzy. It leaves a pleasant, long aftertaste... This is undoubtedly a wonderful gift for music connoisseurs, who, as we know, are very few among the ESC audience 😁. At least there will be no shame in this song, because it is art in its purest form.

This year's Vidbir is supervised by Tina Karol, and she has high requirements for live performance/vocals, so even more exciting songs from the wild card were probably moved there because of failing these requirements (I think Fiinka said in an interview she herself wasn't very happy with her own performance of Kultura, running out of breath, so she'll make tweaks to her Vidbir performance).

I really like the selection BUT I can understand why a lot of people are feeling underwhelm with it. I feel like we're definitely getting another woman this year as those are the strongest songs. Also, Birds of Pray reminds me of Joseph's Technicolor Dream Coat... Why? I don't know. It just does.

I'll definitely be rooting for FIINKA, I'm glad to see her back cause I loved Довбуш. Ziferblat has some interesting stuff going on but overall falls a little flat for me personally. A weak selection for Vidbir - last year I would've been happy to see almost any of the songs get picked, this time around it's barely one...
@V.Zakomirnyi22 сағат бұрын
Are you wondering why Vlad Sheriff (#1) made it to the final automatically, and Fiinka - through an additional vote? Why are this year's participants from Ukraine so... inexpressive? I'll explain. It all depends on the musical tastes of the producer of the national selection. The new producer Tina Karol is a very famous singer with bad musical taste, a favorite of past generations of the lumpenized masses of the population, a representative of the old school of pop music, a pupil of the choir of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (police) 😁. By the way, she took 7th place at Eurovision 2006. Why did she become a producer? Because the organizers do not have enough funds, because Ukraine is waging a war for its existence against the powerful neo-Nazi Russian Federation, which is being helped by other totalitarian countries - China, Iran, North Korea. And Tina Karol agreed to work for free, because she is a wealthy person and a patriot of Ukraine. It's that simple. The world still does not understand that World War III is already underway. I wonder how many days Europe will last if Ukraine falls?

@@V.Zakomirnyi I don’t agree that Tina Karol has bad musical taste… She is extremely professional singer-songwriter and performer. Search for her project «Дім звукозапису» where she invites popular and talented contemporary Ukrainian musicians to “give life” to the forgotten Ukrainian bangers. She is pop artist, yes, but her taste is great, in a pop-diva way. Based on how she evaluated artists during her years of coaching at Voice Ukraine, live sound, compositional completeness and charisma are in priority for her.

@voodoochild483941 минут бұрын

The "boingy thing" is a mouth harp. It is not Australian. They are believed to have originated from Turkic people living in Siberia at some point (according to the wikipedia page). It's pretty traditional for Ukrainian music. Go_A had one in Shum as well.
@shatelei20 сағат бұрын
Firstly, these are different instruments, what you are talking about is called a vargan, and what is played in this song is called a drymba, they have different shapes. Secondly, the drymba is an ancient national Ukrainian instrument, which probably has analogues among other peoples inhabiting the Carpathians, it did not come there from Siberia. Thirdly, the Siberian Turks do not exist.
@elizabethingermann591119 сағат бұрын
@shatelei mouth harp is a family of instruments. There are various versions, presumably developed over hundreds of years in the different places where they have come to be part of traditional music. I could not personally identify different ones by sound alone. Secondly, "there is no such thing as a siberian turk" is super racist actually. Because there are several turkic cultures indigenous to Siberia. Idk why a random american on youtube has to be the one to tell you that Russia is extremely ethnically diverse, but here we are. Google is your friend.

I'm so out of sync with the Ukrainian selection for the last couple of years, because the ones i liked always ended up falling by the wayside. I really loved 'Kohoney' by Grisana this year, and that crashed out earlier. Fiïnka is my choice now. Over-all, im not enjoying the Ukrainian selection as much this year.

But the selections looked great and did well (especially Jerry and Alyona) at Eurovision despite your preferences.
@AmaanStorm23 сағат бұрын
@@natastudyN not anywhere in my comment did i say that the songs didn't do well or not look great. Ukraine have been one of my favourite countries in Eurovision since Ruslana first entered. Since then their strike rate with sending songs that I really enjoyed has been so high. Its only the last two or so years where I've not felt any connection to the stuff that's been sent. Doesn't mean that the songs have been bad, so don't take it personally....my opinion clearly doesn't affect Ukraines performance at Eurovision. And nor should it. Ukraine set the bar so high for me that I'm just underwhelmed with this years songs (overall) in comparison to their previous years selection.

well to ukrainians finals are way better, because of lyrics and depth, like i legit almost cried on 'my sea' because they sing about their occupied city and Azov sea they might never see again, 'you can't take my sea from me' just punched me in the guts which i guess will be lost to outside viewer, but very valuable to us

It's a very poor idea to react to snippets and judge by a few random seconds of dynamic songs with development. And it's not much better to give an opinion about the songs at the very beginning of songs. 🙂🙃 It would seem wiser to give an opinion about the songs AFTER each song. I am not sure whether the reviewer was paying attention to the songs (details, instrumentation) or to his talking.
