excellent video. I threw away my fenders because I didnt have the patience to bend them and align them. I put about 1000 miles on my Meridian with a direct drive brush-less 1500 watt hub motor up front. I'll upload a video if you wanna check it out. I was very impressed with how well it held up. I did have to replace all the rims around 100 miles. I was hard on her though. She survived multiple beer runs with a passenger sitting on the back with the stock basket folded down and zero failures other than rims. That was an all up weight of 500lbs ish. 120lb of trike + electric kit, 240lbs 6' me and 120lbs cute girl+ beer. I used Schawlbe fat frank frank tires which really softened the ride. I'll be using CST Cyclops tires for my next build since I cant get fat franks at cost these days. If your parents need a little help getting around i would recommend a geared hub motor up front. The direct drives i used would top out at 26-40mph which is a death wish. But fun. Also I found it easier to tell my buddies to turn the front wheel the direction they want to go and lean into the turn. If it feels like its going to roll over lean into the turn and put your weight on the pedals. You can also get a disc brake kit for the rear axle if you google it.

I purchased the Schwinn trike in 2014. I put mine together by myself. It took me about an hour and a half to assemble, and you are right, the axle assembly was a bit of a challenge but still, one person can put the whole thing together with relative ease. It's really not complicated to put together if you follow the included assembly instructions step by step. Just take your time. I bought this bike for myself as I'm disabled and I'm 45 years old and don't have balance and strength in my legs to work a two wheel bike. My bike gets quite a bit of use. I bike around the neighborhood and for doing really short trips to the store about a half mile away. The one in this video looks like the 24" bike, mine is the 26" model and easier on the knees with the pedals slightly forward..

I have a Meridian that a good friend gave to me. He bought it for his dad who had had brain surgery, but he didn’t like to ride it. I have Parkinson’s disease, and can still sometimes balance on a two wheeler, but I never know when I’ll have a bad day and not able to be safe on a two wheeler, so it’s been a godsend. I find the gearing perfect as well… I haven’t found the hill I can’t pedal up, lol! I have also found the basket to be a little bit flimsy and fiddley, But in spite of that I have been able to strap 127 pounds of groceries on there and pedal home with it

Bought a used one (that is actually blue) for my son to ride to hopefully help with getting rid of some of his weight. He is high functioning autistic and was born with hypo-plastic left syndrome. After a few heart surgeries and a couple of rods in his back he put on some un-needed extra weight. He won't ride the tricycle. So I am repairing and minor upgrading it for me to ride and get rid of some un-needed extra weight. Your videos have been very helpful. Trikes are fun for any age. I have lots of wheeled toys, but trikes serve a special purpose. I got this one to ride around my flat tourist town to enjoy the atmosphere. I take it to festivals with my dogs in baskets and it keeps them safe and contained. You can stop a trike anywhere to comfortably browse or sit and people-watch, unlike a bike. It is great in a crowd--you have personal space. You can leave it to go into a shop and nobody steals it. lol This trike is aluminum, too, btw.

It is MUCH easier to put the rear fenders on with the wheel off, but to put the wheel back on, you just need to let the air out of the tire. My wife and I just put our Schwinn Meridian together a few days ago, after my much superior Raleigh trike was stolen. We found it very difficult to remove some of the bolts for assembly, especially on the rear frame and for the rear fenders. You may need a small 10 mm wrench to loosen them; if you use just a Philips screwdriver, you might end up stripping the bolt head to loosen the tight ones. After we install the rear fenders, we could hear the tires scraping on them. We initially removed the rear-most strut, thinking that was the part that was scraping the tires but after the first long ride, we just removed both fenders entirely to completely eliminate the rubbing or scraping on the tires. Inserting the handlebar stem calls for bike grease, which of course we didn't have so we used Crisco. That might be causing the handlebar stem to be slipping. I now carry the correctly sized Allen wrench with me to tighten it, which had to been done twice in our second long trip. so now I will remove the stem and wipe off the Crisco. I hope that fixes that slipping issue; does anybody else have that problem? Finally, on the second day after the first 2-mile bike trip, the secondary or rear drive chain slipped off the wheel drive sprocket. That required an almost complete tear down to readjust the connection between the front and back frames, and to really make bolts as tight as possible. The first time we fabricated the trike, the bolts weren't tight enough. I hope that solves that issue but I keep hearing a clicking sound with I pedal the trike. For $600, the Raleigh Torster Trike is far superior, and it comes with a 3-speed gear.
@vidcreations4 жыл бұрын
I have found the fenders don't have good support and need bent by hand to form around the tires. I haven't heard of the stem needing grease, but the tightening of the stem and handle bars is a common complaint. In my opinion the stem is not a quality piece and unfortunately purchasing a better quality stem is the answer. It is important to take the time to line up, have the proper tension, and have the bolts tight for the drive chain. The banging of the rear hub has always been a complaint of many. I even mounted a camera on our bike to try to see if I could diagnose the problem. I can't. It must be something internal because on our bike, if you coast and stop pedaling, the hub grabs in a rhythm. Thus pulling on the chain and jerking the pedals as you coast. We will wait until the hub fails, then I'll have a better idea what the problem may be. My mom has always wanted a three wheel bike. We knew it wasn't going to be the same quality Schwinn has been known for, but for the price, it was our choice.
@Sokx414 жыл бұрын
The clicking or banging on the hub may be due to slightly bent rear axles, or so I have read.

After writing the review above, I found adjusting the rear drum brakes to be too difficult to complete. I thought I had done it earlier but I realized that I was only testing the brake (as i worked on it) by pulling the handlebar lever, but the wrong lever. so I really didn't fix it all. I am searching for a video or other instruction that teaches on how to adjust the rear drum brakes, not just a video with pretty music but not spoken or printed instruction.

The pro bike shop told me Walmart commissioned Schwinn to make the bike (at least half the comments on the bike were very negative) and I couldn't believe Schwinn has lost it's brand pride. The Walmart assembler presented the bike to me as if all was well. Schwinn/Walmart... not doing either again unless I get at least a 3 day trial period. Most places include assembly, but hire people with little bike-building experience (it's cheaper) and lean on them to build as many bikes as possible in two weeks. Clicking gears, wobbling wheels and cranks that fall off as you ride down Montreal Road in rush hour (!) are par for the course. It's best to DIY like Jimmy if you can, but not everyone has the skills, tools or place to do it. If you can't DIY but can afford $100 extra (many charge less), bike shop/mechanic assembly is a good option, esp. for older people.
@thetrumpnewsnetwork75037 жыл бұрын
The first step is to replace the seat with a WORKSMAN 6911v Bicycle Seat 13 In. Extra Wide which can be had at Walmart online for $30. The seat on that bike has a plastic frame which breaks easily if you shift wrong on the seat plus it isn't very comfortable. I thought it was very easy to assemble. I didn't even bother reading the instructions. I replaced the tires with whitewalls and they really pop on the Schwinn. It is a nice bike but the fenders are pretty flimsy so they easily rub the tires it they are bumped (or touched). For the money it is a pretty good deal. Oh and get rubber hand grips right away. Those cheap foam ones will turn into liquid in the hot sun or a hot garage.

I ordered mine from Target and it hasn't arrived yet so I can't speak to how good/bad it is, but if you can't find a trike anywhere else and want this model I'd recommend Target since they claim to offer refunds for online orders and going to a store is easier than shipping it back to Amazon for a lot of people.

HI, thanks for the video! I have an izip trike that I adore. I found a square clear plastic container from The Container Store that replaced the basket beautifully. I painted it with kilz and black textured paint to accent the trike and added some little padlocks. It's perfect for all-weather conditions and it's the best little trunk for locking up my headlamp and my helmet when I park to do any errands. I spent probably 60 bucks on it, including paint and hardware but trike trunks are almost 200 dollars so this was a better option for me and it works great! I wish for a brake upgrade disc. Bought for my dad 80 years old wore a set of tires. Wish the back axel was driven for both wheels.limited slip. If you over turn the handlebars more an 360 degrees you can damage the cables to the brakes. .it is the easiest bike we have tried and the geometry is very good especially or more fragile peddlers . Maybe adding with a three speed axel would be better for pulling slight grades. Good video Thankyou

Glad you liked the video. Yes a limited slip rear drive would be nice, but I can only imagine the increased cost to the bike. From my experiences, a rim brake stops better than disc and are easier to replace the pads.

Here's a tip that may be so obvious you didn't think of it: If you were planning on taking it to the gas station to fill the tires, it may be considerably easier to do that before attaching them to the bike, when you can just throw them in the trunk of your car. (Luckily, the gas station down the street from my house turned out to have it--I wasn't sure if it did.) Also, for other non-mechanically-inclined folks: when you're taking off the nuts to attach the rear axle piece onto the main body, there are two different kinds on there, so pay attention to which ones came from where. The difference between the two kinds is subtle enough that I didn't notice until I started wondering why I couldn't get it to go back on.

They are great to carry stuff around. Not just in your yard. But many places. Like going too the store, or just going on a stroll with some food to see the sights. Picnic out some place. We just bought one of these trikes and put it mostly together yesterday. Today, we attempted to tweek the rear fenders in order to get them to stop rubbing on the tires with limited luck. We did note that there are slots on the metal bars that attach the fenders to the wheels allowing for positioning of the fender, presumably to avoid rubbing. After quite a bit of fooling with them, both fenders are rubbing less but are still not completely rubless. I was wondering if there are specific steps we can take to aleviate this rubbing. How, exactly, should we position the screws in the slots in order to avoid rubbing. Should the bolts be tightened in a certain order? We started with the center ones, pulling the slots up as far as they would go and then moved to the sides on each fender. The directions that came with the bike were not all that good and I've not been able to find anything online regarding fine tuning this specific step in the assembly process. Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated. Also, thanks for the tip about pointing the handle bars up - neither one of us thought of that!!

@@vidcreations just a quick question... i see in your video that the front wheel is always straight when the bike is stationnary. Mine mine goes right and left all the time and i wonder if this is the reason why we can't ride it. I tried it and i feel it going to the right all the time. Do you think it's a question of practice or maybe i need to check the steering ?? Thank you for your help !
@vidcreations4 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethcalero2404 I never noticed that. From holding the wheel straight for a while and moving the bike, the front wheel made a groove in the gravel which kept the wheel straight. It just kinda happened. The front wheel is designed to turn left or right. It's called caster or rake and is to help the bike turn. A two wheel bike you mostly lean and slightly turn the front wheel. A three wheel bike is really different and takes practice to feel comfortable riding it, at least for me. My dad actually ended up in the grass and almost hit the house. So yes, I think it's just a question of practice and nothing wrong with your bike. Hope this helps.
@elizabethcalero24044 жыл бұрын
@@vidcreations yes, i know it must turn so you are able to go right or left. I just thought that i had maybe a problem because i'm never going the way i want to go. But yeah...i guess you're probably right ! I need practice. Thank you soo much sir !! Very nice of you to answering my question. 😁

first off thank you so much for making this video, buying a bike online is hard and I called the company they didn't have any videos. This helped a lot. I do have a question for you, I had 3 knee surgeries and only 1/2 a ligament currently in my knee, my knee is weak. I am worried about it only having a single speed. I am worried I might not be strong enough for this bike and wondering if I should get the 6 speed one. I like this one better, do you find it difficult to drive? thank you
@vidcreations6 жыл бұрын
Kelly, sorry to hear about your knee. I don't know your leg strength so it is difficult for me to say. However I had the same concern because this bike is for my mother. She is 78 years old and can ride the bike on this slag drive. That's not easy. It takes a lot out of her, but she does it. I would think if you are riding on a flat hard surface, you should have no trouble. Hope this helped you out.

London Royal has a video as to how to put their trike together and assemble it, and it is essentially the same as the Schwinn. Schwinn did put up a video in May of 2016 though, so maybe they finally saw what you had originally said about such in this video.

If you're not a DIY type person have them put it together at Walmart. If you do decide to do this make sure you have all the proper tools. Metric sockets with extenders. On mine they put the seat post upside down into the slot and I had to heat it slightly with a propane torch to expand it and it came right out. Use sockets instead of phillps head screwdrivers whenever possible. My fenders were dented but figured it would be just as bad to go through the process of getting them replaced. You need to know how to adjust brakes properly or have the desire to learn. I have to change the spring seat. My granny feels unsteady and unsure when she rides. The spring seat imho is giving her this impression. Update: Also changed the handlebars to the higher "chopper" type so she is sitting more upright. With that needed to replace the front brake cable with a longer one. Problems: Bottom brakett coming loose often, clunking noise coming from rear end.

Question for anyone who has this bike: is it easy to transport? Will it fit on a regular car bike rack, or will I have to buy a special one? Thanks in advance.
@shanedimaio5 жыл бұрын
I've had one for 15 years & I've never put it on a bike rack, I can't really fathom how it would even fit on one, the back end is pretty wide. I transported mine home in the back of a pickup.

Not at all easy to transport. I can’t imagine getting it on a bike rack and you can’t really get it on public transport. When I bought one I rode it eleven miles home because it wouldn’t fit in my hatchback!

This trike is perfect for anybody with say, a disability that prevents them from riding a 2 wheel bike. i'm one of these people. Yes it cost more, but it's a very good trike as long as you make sure you get it properly set up by a pro. I also have seen elderly people as well as parents ride this trike. I've also got some friends that own one too. My trike I use for errands and getting to work.

I'm not officially disabled; I have a lousy sense of balance and would not want to get on two wheels. My husband has been riding bikes for years, and I am glad to be able to join him. Total impulse purchase. I guess someone ordered one and didn't want it; it was assembled on the floor at Walmart.

I’m hoping to get this bike soon as the Walmarts where I live won’t be carrying them for much longer. I have terrible balance due to a brain injury in utero. This bike seems perfect for me and a lot of people like me who aren’t necessarily elderly but could use (and have fun with) an adult trike.

I’m concerned about the single speed on this bike. At 67 years old and semidisabled I have a hard time on my other bicycle which was a single speed up a slight incline. Can you really pedal the bike up a hill and up an incline without major problems?
@vidcreations3 жыл бұрын
The gearing is the same as a regular bike, so the trike will probably take the same amount of effort. They do make a three wheel bike with three speed gearing. That may be a better option for you.

That should read: My husband tipped his trike over trying to go up a shell driveway. He can't get the chain back on. We are old, late 70's. Any advice would be helpful.
@vidcreations3 жыл бұрын
There are two chains. I will assume it is the long chain that goes on the pedal crank that you are asking about. Put the chain on the smaller sprocket. Loop the rest of the chain on top of the large pedal sprocket. Pedal forward and the chain should go on. If not, you will need to loosen the sprocket axle, loop the chain on both sprockets, then adjust the sprocket axle to tighten the chain and then tighten the sprocket axle.

Good day Jimmy. Thank you for your video. I ordered one of these bikes from Walmart. I had to order another because the bike made noise in the area of the axle. I contacted Schwann and they said to remove the rear wheels and place a piece of wood on the frame and hot the frame mallet and hopefully the lose bearing (they said it is a lose bearing due to shipping) would fall into place. Did you hear a clanking noise in your axle? My son tried doing what they suggested and it did not work. I like the bike but the noise is really annoying. Hope you can help me.

The rear axle noise is a known problem, I think there is a design flaw. I din't want to tear into it yet because it works for my mom right now. I am looking at making a video showing the problem so people will be aware before they purchase the bike. Sorry I can't help you.

I had just purchased one of these for myself for exorcise But. mine has the. Little electric motor because of my heart condition. Which is why I am going for the 3 wheel. Get. Tired turn the motor on & go home. LOL I am wondering if you can get a set of high rises for the Handlebars if that would be easier. Or. You could you the banana bars instead. You would need to get some longer cables. But still, it may help. I agree with the basket. I will get a sheet of metal and place in the bottom of that and drill some holes in it. So ythe water does not collect. On those scratches seal them off so they dont rust and ad some stickers over it. ✌️
@vidcreations3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response. Yes getting high rise handlebars and longer cables would help with the handlebars hitting your knees. I didn't do that because it is my mom's bike and she's happy with the way it is.

What's the difference between the 24 and 26 which is easier to pedal
@frankwyatt83724 жыл бұрын
I purchased one and love it. However the drive wheel rim (right wheel) gets wobbly and some spokes break. It seems that my weight may be to much for this tricycle. I am 83 years old and weigh 232. Lbs. I purchased a two layer rim a installed it using the same spokes and after riding the tricycle this double layer rim also lost its “true” and became wobbly. Any idea on what I might do to fix this problem?
@vidcreations4 жыл бұрын
I'm not a bicycle mechanic, but I am mechanically inclined. There might be some extra pressure being exerted on the drive wheel causing this. If you replaced the rim with a stronger rim, but used the same spokes, then I would think the same problem would arise. I believe the spokes are what hold the rim true. You might try larger diameter spokes?
@frankwyatt83724 жыл бұрын

I bought the cherry red one for myself and put it together and the only thing that bugs me is that the rear fenders are so close to the wheels that they feel like they are rubbing the wheels a little. I'd love for them to be higher like the fender on the front wheel.

That's what annoyed me about mine is that the rear fenders look like they're too low on the tires. I was really concerned about that even before I took my bike out for its first spin, but thank goodness the fenders aren't rubbing on the tires.

Simple replace the crappy basket with a box with a lid and lock..can also store your chain/ lock in it while riding...honestly the overall design of this trike compared to others is piss poor as they are essentially mass produced women's bike frames other than the bolted on rear axel/ assembly..just saying..the seat/ saddle needs a vertical pole and larger saddle..the sun royal has a much better saddle that includes a back rest for sacral/ lumbar support
