I sorted my embellishments by color years ago... even to the point of breaking apart. I have loved it ever since. I do have a "multi color" bin for things that can't be sorted by color. Then when I go to start a project, I start by pulling all the things I need for a particular project, put it in a box, and then do the project, then place the stuff back in my stash. I love it. I use the embellishments far more readily now.

Of course!!! I honestly have been struggling with how to organize my embellishments for years. I am going to now sort by colour. I too was like Annette, sorting my category, but thinking about it, I don't utilize my embellishments nearly as much as I should, and it's because I can't find what I'm looking for. Colour is the way to go, I think! Well, I'm giving it a whirl! Thanks Tanya!!

I just found this video in a random search, as I am running into a similar problem in my craft area. I sort part of my supplies by color, but didn't think to do ALL of them. I simply can't wait until tomorrow so I can try this method. From one Tanya to another thank you so much for the idea!

Faye Jacobson Have fun sorting! I organized my things like that which was years ago now and even though we moved and I changed the bins these things are in I still have them organized by color. It’s how my brain works best. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I love this idea to organize by color and then include flowers, etc. in each color. Much easier when scrapbooking, card making!

Finally, I found someone who sorts by colors too not only by collections! I also felt good knowing that I wasn't the only one who spent days sorting. By the way, your scrap room is amazing! :D I really liked your organizing ideas.

At Michales, or SAMs Club, Amazon. They have little cases of those photo boxes, like 20 to a case per 1 carrying case. Usually for 20 dollars get you a case with a handle and lots of photo boxes inside. I have 3 and they are wonderful for little thing like that.

Wow! God really is watching and provides what we need when we need it...I have been in the process of organizing my craft room for quite awhile and it is slowly coming together. A few days ago I brought some of those stacking 12x12 units on wheels down from the room where I used to scrap/craft. I was going through the drawers last night just to see what was in them for sure. Some paper, but a lot more embellishments than I remembered every putting in there. PLUS I have a dresser full in here already that are loosely sorted by type, and still upstairs is another drawer unit with nothing but stickers and chipboard! It's a LOT! Obviously, I can probably part wish some of these embellishments, especially stickers, but, just like you, I got overwhelmed just thinking about it! I put everything back in the drawers with the thought that I need to find a way to organize these so I can find what I need when I need it. Like you, I have figured out that I 'shop' my stash for colors first and type second, but it would have taken me weeks to even begin to figure out how to go about sorting and organizing my embellishments like that. Now thanks to you (and to God for leading me straight to this video this morning -- seriously, it showed up in my recommended videos -- I am not even subbed to you, although I soon will be) that process is going to be streamlined! Thank you so much for sharing your process and ideas! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I used to do this too, but last year figured out it wasn't working for me anymore. I went back to type instead of color. Although if I have sequins they are all in a bag, but separated by color. Hope this is still working for you! Love those boxes!

Sorting by color makes sense, especially to us visual people. I sort most things by color but I do keep some things in categories like words and Christmas embellishments. I hope your new system works well for you.--Sara Jean

I am really sorry to hear about your sweet friend Melba. It would be an honor to pray for her! I feel your pain regarding the organizing. About a year ago, I did the same thing. I sorted by color. I purchased 12 stacking Sterilite drawers. I for each color. I do have 2 for blue (one for traditionl blue and one for aqua and turquoise) one just for pink, one for all metallic, one for white, one for black/grey etc.) when I need something I just dump all the loose items (buttons, brads, loose rhinestones etc.) into a large tray and kinda swirl around until I find the color I want. I do not regret doing it and think you will be less frustrated in the long run. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

I sort by color also. All my 3D embellishments I store in a three compartment, clear, arcrylic organizer that I picked up from the Dollar Tree for $1.00 each. They're quite roomy and I can see, a general idea of what's inside. Thus far this has worked for me. ;)

What a wonderful way to do it, after listening to you the other day I realized I also store everything else by colour so why not the embellishments. Brilliant!! I was wondering what I was going to do this weekend since we are getting freezing rain. Project sort it all is beginning right now. Thanks again. I have started doing the same thing.. right down to my last button!!!! I was keeping it all separated but then I decided to try it by color. i have heard of some crafters doing this and at first I was not sure if I would like the idea or not but now that I have got started with separating things I think I will. I mean I had already kept things by color just was separated into different families and it made it harder to find and put things away! Now that I have gathered things together all by color it has taken up less storage and made more room! I still have a lot of organizing to finish but I am very happy with the work I have accomplished so far! I went to Big Lots and bought me one of those 9 cube storage shelves with the baskets and I plan to go get another one. I was having the biggest problem with no storage in my room but a few little shelves I had so these cubes really help out a lot with storage now! I had been wanting them for some time but could not get them at the prices I was finding them! So I was glad to finally find them at a good price at Big Lots! I think keeping every thing now by color will make it so much easier when I do a project to find something and most of all to put things away!

Hi, Yes I also find it easier to have everything sorted by color and the idea that I have everything in the little separate boxes and that they fit in the one little cubby is great. I saved a lot of space doing it this way. I do however have way too many embellishments but I'm sure I'll eventually use them all...honest! 😉

I think I will like it by color also! Just wish I had the drawer space so I have to find another way to keep my items till I can get more drawer storage some day. My room is so small I have to be very creative on storage! I wish I could afford all the nice Ikea storage but I can't so I have to buy what I can find on a bargain that will work in my room! Some storage I have made just to keep my cost down! I have been working for over a week so hard in my room reorganizing everything in my room and I am so worn out!! Yesterday I had to go shopping for more storage and groceries for our home so I did not get any work done. All last week I worked so hard in my room and on top of it still keeping up with other house hold duties like the laundry and cooking and cleaning every day! So today I was so tired and sore I just had to take a break from it all and relax! We have been sleeping in the den on our sofa bed since I had taken everything out of my room and placed it on our bed to go through. My husband has been wondering when he will get back in his bed! I had hoped by tonight but just did not get it all done yet! still so much to do for one person! Tomorrow I will begin again! I bought another 9-cube shelf that needs to be put together! Hope to get my husband to put it together for me tomorrow night when he gets home from work! It will help get more things off the bed and put away! I still need to go to Target for some other storage items this week! I think that has been my biggest problem! I have not had the proper storage and lack of it!

Good for you going through everything and sorting! It's so much work though eh? Especially like you said, having to keep up with the rest of the house. It would be nice to say, "Ok everyone, I am taking the next week off to sort through some things. The chef, laundry people and cleaning folks will be taking over while I do this. I know that is right! You would think I could get some help with the rest of the house stuff too since I don't have little ones any more! I have a husband and a grown daughter who is almost 22 now but I still do everything here by my self because they work and go to school and I don't! But that is only because I am unable to any more with my health problems! They forget that! Working around the house wears me out more than anything else! I have been so tired and worn out from over doing it the last week that for the last few days I have been unable to move at all! I have Fibro, Lupus and other stuff to go along with that so it has all been acting up because I have been pushing my body to get the house work up and get my craft room done too and moving things I should not be moving has not helped at all! Now I am paying the price so my body has said STOP!!! TAKE A BREAK!!! Weather I want to or not! I just hope I am able to get back to work on it tomorrow! My husband is tired of sleeping in the den on the sofa bed! I am too but I don't want to just through every thing back in there any old place like I did before when we were tired of it and wanted to get back our room! I am trying to be patient and get him to be most of all and not complain about it! It makes is harder on me if he complains about not being able to sleep in our bed cause then I feel like just giving up on it and moving everything and not finishing like I have done before and be miserable! I have bought some cube shelving that I have been wanting and some other storage items for my room to help me get organized. I bought a new office chair because mine was not good for my back and also bought a more comfy chair just to sit in when I want to look at a book, read my Bible, or look at my lap top or even for another person to keep my company! It can also be folded away for easy storage when not in use and I just love the pop of color it brings to my room! Everything is starting to come together slowly but it is coming together! It is much harder when it is just yourself doing everything alone and everything else in the house on top of it too! I keep telling my husband and daughter if they could just help me with some of the other house work it would take that of of me to where I would not have to worry about it and have more time to put in to my craft room! Neither of them understand! I love it when I see on KZbin how husbands are so supported to there wives of their creativity! I wish mine was more like that with me! So I am praying that I will get up a lot of energy to finish up getting the rest of the things on our bed by the end of this week so we can get back in our own bed! I still have stuff in the floor and in the hall floor but right now I just want to get the stuff off the bed and put back up and organized! I have been fighting with the issue on how I want to keep my clear stamp! what would take less space? keeping them in the binders or in a box of some kind or the CD cases? I don't have a lot of wooden stamps but I have a small collection and I was keeping them on a shelf. I have been trying to decide if I should keep them that way or unmount them? My room is not very big! I keep trying to put my work table away from the wall but with the shape of the room and the size it takes up too much space I think! I have another desk for office stuff and wanted to set it up for my husband to study at so he would not be at our dining table using it every day for bills and have his school books all over it! Having that desk to work around makes things a challenge for me but I can put the printer on it and baskets to store other items. It just seems like it takes up a lot of space in the room but I am trying to make it work! Have a blessed day!

I do find it easier to find things when they're sorted by color but I've realized I have way too many embellishments! (Don't tell my husband I said that! He'll put an end to my shopping!) Yes it was quite satisfying when the boxes fit perfectly on that shelf. Awesome 😉

I love those crates that you store your journal cards and washi tape in. I too sort all my craft stash by colour too. I have all my buttons and brads in tiny containers all separated by colour and my ribbons and tapes are stored by colour. packs of paper and cardstock are separated by themes, as are one off packs of embellies theyare also sorted by theme. Jackie Byers Hi Jackie. Oh good. Glad this helped. I still have my embellishments stored/seperated like this. I have a new craft room now since this video and since we moved to Seattle and I store them in different bins but same idea. I haven't done an updated video yet but if you see my recent craft room tour I have moved them into the small ikea bins (trofast) I have hanging on the wall on either side of my new room. Hi, Yes the organizing by color has worked out wonderfully. I think the only problem I have is that I have way too many embellishments! (Don't tell my husband I said that ;-) I still get overwhelmed trying to embellish my pages just coming up with new ideas but it is much easier to find things by color.
