So how do you align subtasks that are under different main activities but can occur concurrently and can precede each other without getting the strange lines?

Thanks for your video was a great help, however the project in the processes tasks in parallel with each other, we need to create a project with all tasks running sequentially, the only way I could do this was to manually change the start dates for the various tasks which you do not recommend, any advise would be appreciated.

You can not set today function. It is showing always project start day. I can not start a project file with today. I switched to zentao which helps me get things done, it easier to understand and has more features.

Hi, maybe you cover it elsewhere but why not use a milestone as a dependency? For example you could use a “start” and “complete” milestone within each summary task section and link these to previous milestones.
@brentward1831

Because you already have the predecessor in the non-milestone task that precedes it. Further, the milestone is there like a marker on the project, not a task that attracts hours of work. I find it's cleaner to separate the outlining (milestones, summary tasks) from the actual work of the project.

Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about "what is involved in project cost management?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Biycarlett Astounded Builder - (do a google search ) ? It is a great exclusive product for discovering how to download thousands of business and project management templates without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my neighbour got great success with it.

the program is very stupid, i had to work with it today for one of my uni projects and words can not express how stupid this thing is. So, im watching this whole vid which btw is amazingly done, but heres the thing my entire project is done in only 3 days which means that im gonna be doing quite a few tasks on one day when i go and change the dates so 2 tasks start on the same day and end up on that very same day like lets say from 2pm to 3pm im doing something and then from 3pm to 4pm im working on another task. You cant do that becuase when you go and change the dates it not only goes in red underline on the schedule but it also goes manual. Also what is this stupidity on working simultaneously on 2 tasks what if you are the only person working on the project how TF are you supposed to work on 2 tasks in the same time. Like for example overhouling the machines. And theres no hours option everything is for days. well yeah if i have a task that can be done in lets say 2 hours why wait another day than not just start working on another task. Oh and another thing on 2013 when you use the "," for predecessors /whatever you referred to as a tingling note/ it catches is as a decimal number. I double clicked the cell good thing i saw there was a predecessors tab, clicked on it and there was an ID field and in that id field you have to put the number and after that it appears in the cell with ";" f.e.: 15;8

I just tested an hour by hour test of tasks in MS Project 2013. I was able to enter my durations as hours and minutes. You have to zoom into the project to see the hourly gantt chart bars, though. You are right, you can't get and hourly schedule in View-Table-Entry view but you can get Gantt chart bars with hourly markers at the top of the time scale. But in spite of MS Project's ability to partly handle an hourly schedule, if you are using tasks with durations in hours or minutes, I think you are using the wrong tool. I usually just plug it all into an MS word table and share it with the team that way.

@@brentward5739 , but some tasks on certain days you may want to do hour by hour planning on very long project, and Project does not give you an easy way to do that. Project tries to much to autocorrect and autoadjust your tasks out of the box instead of letting you put what you know is right from the beginning and just showing where adjustments should be made instead of trying to do them for you. I have not met a person yet who thinks the way Project expects people to think. That's why most new users are very frustrated because it's counter intuitive to most beginners thinking.
