Thanks as always Nev for taking the time to make these video's, it's very much appreciated. Your video's give an insight into the mammoth task they are facing to get the Lanc airworthy. It's not just the actual restoration itself, but it must take an immense amount of paper work & accreditation too.

Andrew's analogy of steel ship building rivets is slightly inaccurate. The steel rivets used in ship building are heated not to get them soft enough to form but to provide the clamping force. Having it hot makes it easier to form but they can be formed cold. However forming them in the plates only generates closing force on the rivet. When it is heated, it expands and as it cools it contracts, greatly increasing the force generated in the rivet and making the joint water tight. The lower booms are in tension only when flying, when the aircraft is on the round they are under compression. The converse is true of the upper booms.
