Video Call with the RAREST OFFICIAL Gameboy Advance SP Accessory - The Digital Act CamPho

For the first time ever, documented footage of the officially licensed Gameboy Advance SP Accessory - the Digital Act CamPho. Originally released in 2004, exclusively in Japan and via direct sales ONLY on Digital Act's website (no longer in operation, the CamPho was meant to do video calls over landline using your GameBoy Advance SP.
Because the item is so rare and completely obscure, little information is known about the accessory nor has footage ever been shown of it in action of making a video call. This is the only known footage as of this date on KZbin of two CamPho accessories in action trying to make a video call.

Oh shoot, I have purchased two Camphos recently and I'm still getting around to setting them up. I wanna make them portable and be able to call my friend on the go. I figured I'd need to get some sort of pocket router/adapter to convert a SIM card to a landline cable and use it that way - but I will need some more time and tools. Idk, we'll see. I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one out there trying to revive this device!

good luck mate and please let me know your progress. I have a feeling that even though my phone line is analog, once its goes to the carrier, it's converted to a digital signal and thus not compatible with the Campho. However I just tried dial-up internet and worked just fine. So it's either something with US phone lines...or something as to how Japanese phone lines were back in the day. Nonetheless, calling campho to campho DOES work as shown in my video..its just a matter of initiating the transfer of call data itself

@@NeonPolygons ​ Hey, I did some research and ended up ordering a Huawei Tele2 router to use as GSM gateway with my SIM card. It came in the mail today and guess what! It actually worked! I managed to make a call and a friend even picked up - but that's as far as I got. My GBA seems to have had the same issue as Yours - keeps dialing, despite the other person picking up. Now, I read in the manual that technically only Campho-Campho connection should work, so it makes sense. I will order another router soon and will try connecting the two again. It's good that we are now pretty much at the same page though. And the most important part is that it actually works with a SIM card, too! So now we have coverage in two separate fields and both seem viable for further testing. Not to mention, covering both American and European (greetings from Poland) operators... We'll see what more can be done.

The KZbin algorithm is changing back to the earlier days. I am seeing this video, uploaded 3 days ago, 618 views, and it is shown to me on my home feed. I am all here for it even though the call didn’t connect

Nah you must be young cause this would've been sweet in 2004. You keep comparing a Gameboy accessory to a top tier laptop of the time. Kids didn't have top tier laptops back then dude. That's actually something that would've been so dope to have back then. Video calling was NOT widespread at all in '04.

haha I wish I was young...and not saying that sarcastically. this was only available via Digital Act's website and was marketed only toward their telco customers (ie adults paying the phone bill). The concept of "video calling" was not widespread in Japan but in the US, (for adults)...skype was already infiltrating, and Apple's main line of laptops were already integrating their iSight tech which was easy to use over AIM.

So one thing I would like to know is does your landline use VOIP and if so I would like to see it being used over a true analog phone lines

so definitely not VOIP. it's the same analog landline I've had since 1999 - where I still used dial up until 2006

In Bolivia we still have networks that are completely analog still functioning along with newer networks. I mention that because I wonder, you have an analog line but whats going on behind? Does your provider convert to digital and back to analog somewhere in the middle before connecting to your cousin? That could be why it doesnt connect. I can also think of testing both ends connected to an analog telephony server, maybe from grandstream or so.

Corporations used to be obsessed with video calling even though no one ever uses it, we don't even use calling as much as people used to back then since texting is much more convenient, video calling is the most bothersome contact form possible
