I agree that's how I felt watching this, slightly out of place like everything is shifted but in what way? Am I being watched? No I'm just paranoid. I'm being hunted? but by what? Like something slithering in the background making my blood run cold, something confident but discreet that it's going to get me. It's very clearly intended to do this yup. Riot is too detail-oriented to not make all the cuts perfect if that's what they had wanted, but they wanted to make some things slightly off: for comparison, Drum Go Dum where literally everything is perfectly on beat because the entire thing is ABOUT being driven by the beat- this one is different and is much more about being slightly unsettling but also demonically alluring and so pretty you want to fall into it even though you don't know what's going to happen if you do (and you very much get the feeling it's not going to be nice things that happen).

I’m pretty sure that was the point. Evelynn in the game is a like a jump scare, she’s invisible and when her charm is charging up on you your screen changes a bit before she attacks you and she shows herself. Evelynn is a demon, she’s scary and evil and quite literally a villain, and riot captured it perfectly.

Evelyn is a demon that feeds on people's pain. Her passive ability is going invisible with a certain range. The reason why they created the MV in a dark place with very little lights. The pink heart is her 3rd skill. I think to emphasize that her greatest damage is when she used the full charm/3rd skill on enemies. And that's why she is a straight up Villain ✌️😉

The reason this video might seem weird in many ways, unnatural, and make you feel uncomfortable, is well, cuz that's the point. Evelynn is meant to be an intimidating, messing with your head character. In Runeterra (aka original) lore, she is one of the two most fucked up characters I'd have to say, alongside Singed. And this music concept video perfectly captures this darkness within her.

One of the allures for Villain and it's concept video (from the standpoint of a K/DA, or League of Legends fan anyway), is that Evelynn has an affect on your mental state and even though you're terrified of her, the "watch it fill you full of dread 'til you go", you can't help but be enamored by her (she literally charms people to come closer so she can kill them in the game), and she makes you lose all sense(s?), which is the "listen to your brain go stupid, go dumb". The video has some weird and kind of disturbing (snakes aren't everyone's favorite) imagery but for her, for Evelynn, this sensual but deadly "Villain", it makes sense and it made my heart implode as well the first time I watched it.

I actually think the music video flows and cuts the way it does to simulate being hunted and caught by evelynn. It's slower in the beginning because she's lurking in the shadows and stalking her prey. The crazy effects start up, plus her charm, in the second verse because you are now caught, or at least targeted. Final part you start seeing so much more of her because she's got you, she's showing you her form, and now she will begin to torture you endlessly.

If you like KDA and sick editing, check out their song "drum go dum", it's a live action video, not animated. Showcases an incredible dancer, and it's a song with VERY strong beats. The editing is absolutely incredible and makes the video what it is. It's like Bailey created this dance, and the editor was just in her head knowing how to make every movement she makes, and every beat of the song, stand out!

Thank you for sharing some of the technical terms for what we were seeing. I caught the realism of the lens flares and distortions. I don't know too much about cameras, I'm a writer, but I did take one semester of cinematography. It was cool to know that I did catch a few things that got your attention like the similarities between two shots and crossing them over, putting a sequence in reverse, and showing a sequence from a different angle. I really enjoyed this concept video, it's excellent inspiration material for writers. Great reaction.

I think the point of the slight mismatching of beat and cuts is entirely intentional. It gives you that slight uncanny-valley vibe you just can't put your finger on if you don't realze it is happening, which adds to the creepy factor of the video. Which is the whole point of course.

did you notice that the animators even put the effort to show how ther kneels interact with the floor? her feet swings at 3:36 just as in a real walk on a surface like that. i really like this detail about the concept behind that video I think is about how Ev got everything, beauty, power or money, and yet being so dangerous leave her to be in a really dark and lonely existence, since she doesn't consider herself neither dead or alive

so the thing is.. in game, evelynn can oneshot with her full combo which includes the "charm" ability represented by the smoker heart. That might be the reason why they gave the so and so beat drop at 4:13 only after the smoke heart popped.
