Not only is it my first time watching any of his music videos, but it's my first time listening to him as well!

I feel like Niall tends to go for funny music videos mostly. I think my favourite of his solo ones is No Judgement. I also REALLY love the aesthetics of Our Song that he did with Anne-Marie. I don't think either are out there in terms of video editing but they are both fun in different ways.

The numbers lead to Niall talking and giving sneak peaks at the upcoming album

there were a lot of easter eggs. This mv was released before he announced the names of his upcoming album. There are at least 4-5 of his album track names in the video. Like the taxi that said 'small talk' and when u called the number, you would get a voice message from Niall talking about how excited he is for his album and then he also continues on to say that he has hidden some song names throughout the mv. Next, you see 'still' written as a part of the wall graffiti. The poster on the wall said 'Heartbreak Weather 2020', which was of course the name of the album. The heading of the newspaper at 7:44 said 'No judgement'. A guy walked past him at 10:38 and his t-shirt read 'Bend the Rules'. If you called the number on the tissue paper, you would get another voice message from Niall saying, He hoped that they enjoyed the video and the song and he then played a snippet of his song 'small talk'.

Niall is one of my favorites, up there with Taylor Swift. He's so charming and charismatic. Great musician, singer, and songwriter. Hopefully you do more from him, although I don't think he has too many fancy videos.

like taylor’s mv’s, this one is chalk full of easter eggs. this was released before his album, heartbreak weather, and each song on the album is represented in some way in this. and i love that you caught the 1D reference! once again, love your reactions! i didn’t realize how many types of transitions there were until now. ps. would love to see you react to louis tomlinson’s “miss you” mv. the bts for it shows a lot of the equipment used which i think you might enjoy.

Thank you for the review! To answer your question, yes we definitely called the # in the video. This video was out before the album came out so when you called the number I forget exactly what we heard, but it was album promo. Song snippets maybe? Someone here will remember and correct me if I'm wrong. ;-) And then the various wording you saw throughout - Small Talk, Heartbreak Weather, No Judgment, etc. Those were all Easter eggs to other song titles on the album. in a lot of the shots there were titles of Niall's songs, such as Small Talk on the taxi and Heartbreak Weather on the poster, No Judgement on the newspaper transition. More detail hidden in the detail.

Yass ! So happy you're reacting to King Niall, he's my favourite artist out there. I don't think anyone's mentioned it in the comments, but this song's from his second album called "heartbreak weather" (the poster on the wall in the mv had it written on it). That's why there are so many weather elements during the video, as it was released before the album. This was a manner to pave the way for it. So the blue smoke that seemed random was supposed to be fog I reckon. Throughout the video there was the sun, then the rain's dramatic entrance with the slow mo, the cold snow and the fog. I think each of the weather elements represents an emotion, or an emotional phase. Sun=happy, rain=sad, snow=indifferent/numb and fog=confused. I might be wrong about it but that's my take on it. I don't know if Niall's videos are very technical and all but they're often funny or juste simple and beautiful. From this album there are quite a few nice ones : no judgement (which has two different music videos) , put a little love on me, heartbreak weather. I'd love to see you react to them.

I was going to comment about all the easter eggs but someone did a great job with that already. I took the blue smoke to be fog. The album this song is from is called, "Heartbreak Weather," and there was all kinds of weather in the video (sun, rain, snow...) so I just interpreted the blue smoke to be fog, another type of weather. Anyways, thanks for breaking down the transitions for us. That was fun to learn about!

niall's music is incredible. just in your spare time i'd really recommend his 3 albums. truly skipless albums. he's is not really big on mvs tbh. but i'd recommend too much to ask and no judgement mvs next.

Love that you are doing niall. BUT i cannot believe youre a one shot fan but have never reacted to the king of the one shot video. REN! his most recent videos like animal flow and murderer are some of the most intricately well done well shot videos ive ever seen. His song Hi ren is so beautifully done but very simple, as the message there was the more important hard hitting thing. But honestly check out animal flow & tell me its not beautifully done😁

They are all very incredible solo artists...as you are discovering. And Heartbreak Weather was the name of the album this song is from (which he was teasing along with No Judgment on the newspaper (also an upcoming song)).

If it weren’t for your video analysis, I wouldn’t have caught that easter egg for No Judgement during the newspaper transition 8:20. I haven’t finished watching the vid but l’ll assume you didn’t know about the referrences to his album within this music video.

6:45 I think that the reason for slow motion here is to make an accent on rain coz that's kinda the association with Heartbreak Weather which is the album's title. Also, the bright red poster on the wall with the same title draws even more attention to it

I don't know that you know that, the newspapers is needs to be fake for reason, we can see some Easter eggs here, to promote the album, so on the paper we can see NO JUDGEMENT, one of the titles from new album which he was promoting then 🙈 and we have more titles here hided somewhere 🎉

I don't know if anyone has mentioned, but yes, we definitely called the numbers. If I remember correctly it was a voice recording of Niall saying that he was proud of us finding one of the easter eggs, and to keep looking forward to more information about the new album. I refuse to try it 4 years later, I'm not sure if I want it to still work, or if I want it to not work anymore.

this was lead single for his album heartbreak weather. this was niall's idea to shoot the mv like this. he wanted like one takes and camera shifting transitions. also to put in all the easter eggs he did. all the song titles and numbers that gave snippets.

Once again, I've enjoyed your explanations. Particularly liked the demo of how the dolly zoom works. This video would be a good example of transitions (and framing) if you are teaching an editing class. Not to fancy, but shows how you can create tension and visual interest with fairly easy and inexpensive techniques.
