Mapa literally means Map Then the play on word: Ma(ma) Pa(pa) 1st stanza: Mata(eyes, metaphorically describing the mother 2nd stanza: Paa(feet), metaphorically describing the father The Latarata part is hum for a Lullaby The mv has a simple illustrations but a lot of representations going on, just like: The map and the compass which obviously represents our parents. The sun and moon represents that being a parent is a 24/7 job. The paper boat turning into paper plane and turned back again into paper boat with the clock on the side represents how one can go so far yet will never lose his/her way to go back to his/her roots. They are not afraid of trying or incorporating different genres & instrumentalities into their songs! I never thought of a Boy group releasing a tribute song for PARENTS or GUARDIANS (Since not all of us have parents. Some have relatives or adoptive parents that guides them in their lives) The SONG itself is written by the leader of SB19, PABLO.. He's a genius lyricist who wrote their songs. nooooo. watching your reaction makes me wanna cry again 😭 your interpretation was on point, and i was really happy to know that you got the "lataratara" part as a lullaby. Pablo (the leader) who wrote this song said that the mentioned phrase used to be a lullaby sung by his mom when he was still young. for me, in the context of this song, the boys are now singing the lullaby back to their parents, telling them that its okay now, the boys can finally give back to all the efforts and sacrifices their parents made for them. to explain further, Pablo utilized mapa in three ways here. 1. MaPa- a combination (also sort of a word play) of the the words MAma (mom) and PApa (dad). MAma + PApa = MAPA 2. MaPa - also another word play from the words MAta (eyes) and PAa (feet) as our mothers serve as our eyes and our fathers as our feet as we grow. MAta + PAa = MAPA 3. Mapa is the Filipino term for Map. Our parents are our map in life, guiding us as we go along the paths we choose to take. this for me is a universal song. its like putting into the melodies the words you've always wanted to say to your parents, but never got the chance to do so. or perhaps you cannot find the right words to tell them how much u appreciate them. now talking more on the video, it actually had a lot of easter eggs for the group's future undertakings as of the date it was released. im still amazed how Justin (the youngest), who also was the creative consultant of this video was able to still add symbolic applications here and there. and i defo know this comment is getting so long but i just wanna say you're a really great reactor sir! i've watched your three rvs to our mahalima (filipino and fandom term for OT5 which refers to the five members) and i can say that u present good insights, comments, and analysis in a comprehensive way. ur sincerity is very much appreciated ^^ thank u so much for giving these kings a chance to be featured in your channel. im looking forward to seeing ur future reaction to them, sir. more power to you! 🤍

Yes, you are right! I am Filipino and moved to the States. The values here are so different as far as family is concerned. I share the same values with my Filipino and Asian friends because family plays such an important aspect of our shared culture. Malaysians, Indonesians, Indians, Koreans,Japanese , Chinese, Laotians, Burmese, Thai and Filipinos. Even with the colonization we endured, we managed to retain our inherent family values which I am so thankful for and proud of. Thanks for the reaction. The pandemic is over and can now visit family wherever they may be. Remember, despite the distance, they are only a phone call away or perhaps a Zoom away!

I just recently heard of SB19. I really enjoy their songs especially this one. As a 1/4 Filipina, I can relate to this song. Asians know just how close we are to family. It's a very personal subject and universal. It's the most intense relationship we ever had with our parents. It could often be stressed but we have that connection with our parents. The song almost sound anthemic to me. Anyway, the songwriter is the lead singer, Pablo. I listened to a lot of OPM to learn Tagalog 😅 and this music reminded me of South Border. Lo and behold, one of the producers is a member of the South Border band!

A little trivia. They were able to write the song while they are doing their laundry and cooking inside their condo's CR. HAHA early 2020 when they become very busy they couldn't see their family often. Pablo asked the members what are their thoughts about their parents, their dreams for them, etc.. all of this while doing the laundry and cooking inside the CR. Hahaha PS it's prohibited to cook in their condo but they did. And, to avoid being detected by the smoke detector they decided to cook inside the CR. Hahaha

5:35 Ken's parents are working in Malaysia. So his grandparents are the one who took care of him. Unfortunately, his grandma passed away last March 2021, right after they released the WHAT MV. Thats the reason maybe why they release MAPA as the next song after WHAT. Ironically, Josh never saw his father and Pablo made Josh song the father part.

Pablo and the rest of the SB19 members composed and contributed to the song. This is the first time I listened intently to the lyrics that poked my heart and cried a tears. I suddenly missed my mom who passed away 4 months ago. This group's success is also a success of all members of ASEAN. We Asians should be proud to each others successes and talents. Let love shines to all of us. Our uniqueness is something we must proud of. Thanks to South Korea that introduced kpop to the world that helped to mold our own artists into something we never expected to happen. We not only need talents or skills but as well how to build the foundation to each of them to be the best of the best from which South Korea taught us how that we specifically the Phils. is embracing. SB19 is the product of a Korean ways of nurturing and training talents and hoping in the future other Asian countries will follow.
