These babies are so cute, but the more I learn the more I appreciate the beauty of the adult Orangutans as well.

Orangutans share the same kind of mothering instincts that humans do.

It’s important we protect their habitat so they continue to exist and thrive in the wild! Stop palm oil plantations and deforestation destroying their homes!

Mum seemed active and in good spirits for just a day away from giving birth. The baby is probably thinking,” so this is life on the outside. I imagined more trees”.

Idk why but human births are so exhausting meanwhile apes can give birth and walk around easily next day

@@daemonzap1481 nat geo magazine had a article a few years about ape birth canals and how their design is in many ways more direct and better evolved. Wish I could tell you the year and month because it was eye opening. So much for us being better evolved.

This is NOT good news. 😡😢 In the wild orangutans have babies every 8-10 years. Dads are not involved and it’s just a beautiful time of bonding and teaching. I understand in captivity their physical needs are met by humans so there’s much less to teach. But emotionally this time is important. These zoos that are becoming the orangutan versions of puppy mills make me so mad. This particular orangutan already has a few little ones, including BABY Hilda who is probably no more than 2 years old if that. Now like her siblings before her, she’ll be cast aside while mom solely focuses on the new baby. This is WRONG. They are not thinking about what’s best for these amazing creatures. Their primary concern is how many visitors the new baby and growing brood of little ones will attract. It’s easy to prevent this by putting them on birth control which is commonly used for various situations. It was bad enough when they were allowing this to happen 3-4 years too soon but 6+ years too soon is ridiculous. Not only do the little ones suffer, orangutans are not meant to go through pregnancy and childbirth more than 3-4 times in their lifetime. I don’t know how old Emma is but I am pretty sure this is at least her 3rd child. This should be her last but the zoo will force her to keep cranking them out until she’s dead or too old to get pregnant. And while orangutans are an endangered species, their numbers have greatly improved and by no means are they critically close to no longer existing so this cannot be justified with that argument.
