Video game piracy is a DEEPLY interesting underground community. The video game crackers spend countless hours using their creative genius to break the anti-tampering software built into video games, which costs hundreds of thousands to maintain, and they do it all for free-only at the cost of their mental well-being.

In my opinion, piracy emerged from the growing need for game preservation and access. Some people just can't access certain games in their countries, or game companies simply stop selling those games for no reason most of the time. This with the new ideology of not owning your games that you PAID for simply makes piracy a more justified act. Again, you've probably heard it but I'll say it again: "If BUYING isn't OWNING, then PIRACY isn't STEALING".
@pah967

where you have a point, bro you're acting like piracy suddenly appeared in 2016.. the truth is that back in the day of most games being offline or local mp, piracy was basically what gave most access to games they couldn't find OR afford
@maiden5427
@maiden5427 3 ай бұрын
No the main reason is money. The price of games is based on production cost and average household income in the west. $60 is pocket change some of you guys in comparison to less wealthy countries. A $60 game when compared to the average household income in the 3rd world, is equivalent to paying $1000 for a video game in the US. Game developers will never adjust prices based on region, so they will offer a fair price based on where they expect 90% of sales to come from and forget about the rest. As a result those who cannot afford the price of a newly released AAA game will end up getting a pirated version of the game.

The cost being way way too high making the game simply unavailable to you can be called as it being unaccessible. Westerners dont get it but paying like half of your salary for one game was an insane proposition for people in many poorer countries. These days, many companies use regional pricing and global economy has made things much better but it was a BAD situation back in 2000's and 90's.

@@twotonekrazy7051 Because a VPN is basically just a house made out of paper. It covers only a small number of ways to identify or locate a user. It's useful to obscure your IP on sites and bittorrent, but there are still a shit ton of ways to fingerprint your PC. Basically if someone is really looking into you, they can still easily identify you. Now by him saying he's using a temp PC and buying all his domains with (hopefully) untraceable wallets and a VPN (also hopefully bought with a untraceable wallet). Means he does have better opsec than your average user. If it where me i would probably use Tails or cubeOS buy everything with XMR, and maybe use your neighbours Wifi. I believe games like the crew should be designed in a way where when the main server from the company goes down, people can host their own servers. But it's completely unreasonable to expect a company to keep the servers up for a game that has had about 30 daily players for about 1 year. At a certain point, it costs more to keep the servers up than they make from the few remaining players.

Piracy is a good thing. My reasons will be below, but it will probably be a, pretty lengthy post: 1. I pirated almost every game I played during a period when I was homeless, and then later had a home but was dirt poor. Pirating is good because joy should not be a commodity only afforded by rich people. 2. I largely stopped pirating games now due to being able to afford things. But the gaming industry as a whole has completely lost my trust. Demos aren't that much of a thing anymore, so all I have to go on legally are trailers and gameplay footage which is mostly all lies these days. So if I'm interested in a game, but I'm not sure if it's worth my money I turn to piracy. Pirating is good because giving money to companies who lie about their products is bad. 3. The majority of piracy I do these days are for really old games, either ones I missed during childhood, or ones I remember from my childhood. GOG is where I usually look first, but they don't have everything. In example, I've been enjoying the Ratchet and Clank games on my Steam Deck recently. Pirating is good because without it certain games would be well and truly gone. 4. The Steam Deck is the closest thing I bought to a dedicated gaming console. If I would want to play whatever game I want legally I'd need to buy every console that's been on the market for the past 10 years, as well as the games for them. The big N doesn't sell Breath of the Wild on Steam, and I'm not buying a whole Switch just to play one game. Piracy is good because, combined with emulation, it gives the freedom to play something on whatever platform you want.

As a guy who's in his 20's and from a country where games are very very costly. Piracy became a necessary thing here. And even if you buy the game it's not worth it, you pay like 80$ for base game here and you want us to pay 40$ more for game pass or dlc? Hell nah. Waiting to downloading parts in zip files and playing it is far better than to play a dumb down half version

I live in iran and in here basically 99% of every kind of software and games are pirated,but the problem is in a country like iran people don't even have access to national banks or payment systems that are used to buy a software like Photoshop, we're banned by the government and the company that sells the product so we don't have any other choices and that's why we love whoever cracks the softwares

Dodi is literally the batman of the world of pirates 💀 and either way you can still see AAA game companies selling 5-10 year old games at the same price and making profits. Though pirating indie games is not acceptable even by the majority of pirates.

Trying to prevent piracy through DRM technologies is essentially gate keeping because the companies can't obligate anyone that can't (or don't want to) support them. Piracy is another excuse for them to try to control what you digitally purchased from them and DMCA already gives them a bunch of privileges to make that possible. If Stop Killing Games suceeds it won't make DRM illegal but the main goal is creating a legislation that punish the companies that don't give us offline patches at EOL.

Here in Pakistan if you visit any video game store to buy a game for your computer You're mostly going to see games on the shelves like Grand theft Auto Superman, GTA Hyderabad or Resident Evil games cracked. So when you are going to buy a CD insert in your computer only for it to show a repack or cracked game. Yeah that's how things has been running here since like past 20 years. It's a failing economy and video games are seen by adults of nothing more than just childish waste of time. I mean you would see like 5-year-olds buying GTA and manhunt from your local game store here cuz it's not an official game store to begin with it's just pirated stuff left and right. Now if this was U.K or US You would have proper brands like GameStop or any other popular game shop where you buy games by showing your ID card and own the copy.

Personally i think that companies should make a game open source if they dont do anything with it after like 5-10 years.... we are preserving a lot of stuff with pirates and emulators developers but history is full of lost media and im actually very mad about it. Imagine in like 100 years when people cant experience our favourite media... thats just sad
