The trope i least enjoy is when in apocalypse stories, society completely collapses and humans are just turned into monsters, as if the current social structures are the only legitimate forms of governing and the only things that mantain our moral fabric is late-stage capitalism. A very mark fisher-esque "we can conjure the end of the world more than the end of capitalism".

Exploring post-apocalypse in a non "yeah everything went terribly" honestly sounds like it could offer some really interesting gameplay variety

I'm sure there are indie games that play around with the idea. It would be interesting to get a big budget sort of thing, like a horizon zero dawn where history isn't lost and we're not tribal people but have evolved different and interesting ways of socializing based on the errors of before. It would make for interesting gameplay and narrative concepts imo.@@LitsPlayGames
