Video Interview - Storytelling in Assassin's Creed Revelations

Alexandre Amancio shares his thoughts on storytelling, gameplay, and how Revelations will set the stage for Assassin's Creed III.
Assassin's Creed Revelations is a big game. It's so big, in fact, that the game has six different Ubisoft studios working together in order to complete the game by this November. Behind those hundreds of Ubisoft employees is a guiding creative principle -- a single person whose job it is to coordinate all the game's creative output into a meaningful whole.
For Revelations, that task falls to Alexandre Amancio. Amancio joined Ubisoft as art director on the gorgeous Far Cry 2, but his interests began to evolve towards design in more recent years. Upon our visit to Ubisoft Montreal, we had the opportunity to sit down with Amancio and talk with him about his most ambitious project to date -- serving as creative director on Assassin's Creed Revelations.
In this first video, Amancio discusses the challenges and rewards of developing the new game. What is involved in coordinating the creative output for a game built in six different places around the world?

Pretty glad to see how the world of assassin's creed is being developed in this game. I'm glad they didn't just skip to 3, instead of just being an ancestors who came into contact with pieces of eden, Altair and Ezio actually have a higher role to play in the overall picture. I hope this storyline is worth the wait.

Just listening to him talk about Ubisoft's aproach to story-gameplay integration shows why Assassin's Creed succeeds on every level that so many story-based games (the best kind, I believe) fail. It also shows why these repetitive, over-simple mechanics work, while a ton of other games that try to be "simply addictive" just don't match up.

I like their style. Not just the gameplay style but their game-making style. AC1 = Altair, AC2 = Ezio (and having chapters)... its like a book - They can tell multiple stories(chapters) about multiple characters which is better then most games. They can end one characters story, start another one's (while still having flashbacks to the character and/or hear the Legends of so-and-so(Altair and so to be Ezio)). Instead of dragging a story on after its ended - kind of like what Halo's doing.

Ezio Auditore has to be one of the most epic protagonist from any game that I have ever played...I also loved Altair, but I felt like they should've did the same thing they did with the chapters AC2 > AC Brotherhood > AC Revelations for Altairs story you know... Can't wait for the AC3 character to start anew with a completely new character and home town and family of theirs

@Thafrayer They have split it in parts. The first AC is with Altaïr, and AC 2 is with ezio. AC brotherhood can't be the 3rd, or else it would have been AC 3. AC 2, AC B, and AC revelations are just chapters. The next one will be named as AC 3. So that's where the new character comes. Makes sence?? :-P btw. I am from holland so my english writing isn't very good...

As much as I love the Franchise I think there release date should change. You have HUGE games like Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3 coming out in November. There sales will be most likely be affected. People usually get one game at a time and I personally intend to get Skyrim.

If in Revelations 1) "The Truth" and Subject 16's message in Brotherhood is explained 2) You can make harder guards. In Brotherhood, the Papal Guards were cool looking, but that's just it, those idiots were really easy to kill, I had a harder time with seekers 3) Give Ezio an Epic ending 4) Explain what happenend at the end of Brotherhood I will be the happiest man on earth

he said the franchise is concluding its "major opus" this may mean the end of the Desmond/Ezio/Altair 2012 story, but maybe they will begin a new story, seperate from the existing timeline at least i hope so!

I love Assassin's Creed. Though I thought AC:B was somewhat of a let down. I do not want this to happen to Assassin's Creed.
