This is the most electrifying clear distillation of the necessity of connecting kids to nature I've ever seen. Fantastic stuff.

Incredible presentation Jon. It touched my heart so deeply and completely validates why I feel so called to be connected to nature myself and continue to learn how to help others be nature connected. It really is the foundation of our future. I'm so grateful for the work you are doing in the world. I'm going to study with you one day! Thank-you to you and Manzanita school. Onelove

Dear Mr. Young, This is a very interesting & insightful presentation. Is your evidence or "data" from when you took children from New Jersey schools who were failing out & spiraling downward published? It would be quite useful for me in outdoors education I'd like to pursue. I am a Tracker & for the last several years I have been in the Apprentice Program (I did not go this last year as I had a premonition of something going awry). I am here in central NJ & this would be good evidence for the "they just got lucky" naysayers. I must dispute the remarks about NJ. There are woodlands aplenty. Go to the northwest part of the state, the southwest part of the state & of course the Pines, which you know well. Plus, as you point out, nature is where you find it, if you want to find it. I guess I am kind of like Tom Kean when he said "I'm tired of people making fun of NJ. Please reply when you have time. Our young people need this connection & experience more than ever. On this our nation & world depends. In Medicine

Youre definitely right. If there was a way to make nature appealing to all demographics that way the people involved in this type of thing werent all super calm and friendly hippies from european backgrounds. Not that theres anything wrong with that but i feel like its part of the reason i can still stereotype the crowd

And on that note I only see 35+ yo people in the comments which makes me think it takes a few years of maturing and gaining a sense of self before most can actually embrace these sorts of things

love Jon Young but "Nature Deficit Disorder" promotes erasure of a legitimate disorder. Importance of nature on wellbeing and development, along with increase of early diagnosis, are very significant! Don't get me started on young school pressures... The term itself tho... not with it.
