Jermaine. I started getting serious about my piano back in the summer of '05. I bought a Motif ES8 and your big Hear and Play package. A few months after that I decided to take real lessons and have been for about 3.5 years. My reading skills are getting much better but something was still missing. You're two free videos have changed my music life as it were. I completely think about chords in a different way! Thank you for what you do and please keep the info coming! GOD bless you!

Hi Jermaine, I am so pleased with the flash card format. Having been a teacher and using this tool so often, I can really appreciate what you have done. I have acquired a great understanding of the structure of music and the theory that no one else has ever tried to teach. I am so happy to have you as my mentor in learning to play by ear. Thank you again. Debra Ann Petitan

In my whole life I have not met a music teacher who goes to the extent of making flash cards and even teaches students how to get them printed correctly. JG is one dedicated, passionate teacher who's more interested in us learning than in showing off his skills. Thank you Jermaine!

Hi jermaine, just want to thank you so much for the information you are freely giving. You have no idea how much this information is helping me> I dont have the means to take lessons at this moment, but recently turned to the piano to help distract from hard situations> i can't get enough of it. I have always struggled in school because i have a little more difficulty learning, so i have to study twice as hard and not only study, but (hear it see it and do it ) asked god for help. he answered. u

Hi Jermaine,. This afternoon I watched my second video and believe me I am impressed with the presentation. Believe me I am new to this, but I really do want to learn to play my keyboard so that I can play when I sing at church. I am not able to follow that quickly, but the fact that I can download and print the lesson I am certain I will get it. Thanks a million. You are a genius at what you do. You make learning seem easy and I am not scared to take the challenge. God bless you richly.

If you know your scales, then start studying the difference between "chord" tones, "neighboring" tones (upper and lower), "passing" tones, and "escape" tones. But most IMPORTANTLY, listen to a lot of music. The best melodies are inspired by other ones. A melody can come from a video game... a jingle on tv... a past song... the blending of more than one melody... a ring tone. Then you take that inspiration and combine it with the "rules" from the aforementioned concepts. Hope this helps. JG

You can join a flash card site and transfer all the questions by hand to the site and have it quiz you (a member did this and sent me link). Hmmmm.....I know my numbers but I guess I never tried to work on an exercise to get really quick at calling on the numbers....This is good....Thanks. Also, what I've been working on is remembering the most commonly used chords with each tone of the scale. Some of the chords are long so I've been working on naming them with the inversions.

so what is a good way to learn inversions with these progressions, obviously the master musician is not skiping around their keyboard or organ etc.. lol..... I dont know how to move with the progressions and inversions especially with 7ths 9ths 11ths and 13ths... .if you get what im saying. Any course(s) that can help me with this? Thanks for your time and generosity.

Thanks for the advice. So if I use chords in say Bb min I would just use that scale? I was thinking I should use a different scale for every chord. Is this logical? Say I do a progression in a key with no modulations I just would use the scale of the key Im in or a variation of it?
