Video monitor vs Monitor Plus app for Sony cameras

1:37 the problem with Monitor+ and A7III is because the A7III has no face detect in many occasions - one is when the camera is in PC Remote mode. It is not processing, it is Sony wanted to cut off something compared to the more expensive models like A7rIII where face detect works all the time.

Hello. Thanks a lot. The licence is tied to the user account and phone number so you can use it on another device if you log in and tipe in the code you get via SMS. I use it on two smartphones but not at the same time. Cheers!

@@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens ahaa that can be a problem because I have only one sim card in one of the phones. Maybe if I insert it in the other device just for activation... is there an alternative way to activate it?

@@SimeonKolev It's not about the sim card. When you log in on another device, you can activate it by sending/receiving the activation key to you registered phone number and then you tipe it in to the new device. It will work as long as you are loged in with the new device (only one device).

Go under the HDMI settings and there you can set the type of signal you send through HDMI.

Hello. The recording is done on your camera so you can use any picture profile. If you record on the smartphone as well, you only get a low res video with a low frame rate on your smartphone. The video on the camera is still full quality. I never record on my smartphone because it just fills the memory with useless videos. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

Hi , I'm using monitor plus pro to sony a7iii . Only I'm facing upto now big problem is . Video clarity. Video clarity is too low . And auto rec to mobile is also quality low . Is there any other alternative settings to this . Like to see in good quality.

Hello. The record to mobile is just for reviewing. I don't use it because of the low resolution and low frame rate. Only use the in-camera recorded videos. Video clarity depends on the smartphone and it's not high quality like on a pro video monitor device but it's not much worse than the actual monitor on the camera. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

Hello. The monitor plus app is meant for video monitoring and recording. I don't know how it works with photos. I would suggest the Godox 5.5 monitor. It's really good and it's not expensive. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

I like the Monitor Plus app features. I bought a paid version and from time to time (4 times from August 8) the paid version becomes unpaid limited. I have to send an email to developers and wait for fixing. Is it me only or other users experience the same problem? One time the developer suggested me to check if I use the proper account (ridiculous), other times they did not answer me, just fixed somehow and the app started to work without any actions from me.😪

Thanks for the review. I wasn't aware about using a smartphone as a monitor and that seems like an obvoius choice now when you just need to check up on if you are in frame. I have a feelworld 5" monitor which I use...not so often. I usually rely on the swing around flippy screen on my cameras.

Hello Joe. Yes the flip out screen is a must have for self recording. My Sony a7iii doesn't have one so a smartphone is very useful. Sadly the app is a Sony dedicated option but it's really good. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

It's very sad. When I connect my Sony A7 iii camera to my Redmi 10 mobile phone, it connects to the app. In Monitor Plus it says Unable to connect to your device, either PC Remote is not turned on or the device is not supported.

I tried 3 different cables (OTG capable) to make a wired connection between my Sony a6300 camera that has latest firmware (compatible according to developer's website) and Samsung S9,...and also with Iphone 11 (now last version of Monitor + is compatible for wired connection to IOS according to developer's website), both don't work. I followed correctly the instructions on developer's website how to set camera. I've been able once for less than a minute to get it work on Samsung S9, but never worked after that, tried more than 12 times.

Hello. I use a standard USB-C to USB-C cable. Make sure it's a data cable and not just a power delivery cable. Data cables are usually more expensive. Cheers!

@@samuuw unfortunately not entirely, by changing some settings there was still a lot of latency and in the end I bought a decent field monitor

stabilization is disabled when connected with a cable. you pretty much use the app to set exposure (before hitting record) and then make sure you get the cable off the phone, or else your footage will be unstabilized.. if anyone has some solution.. i know something about using a small video hdmi capture card, but i havent tested..

@@skepsys you're right! Never realized that 😱 i ordered a capture card a few days ago in (desperate) hope that it solves the freezing issue. It should arrive within next week. I will also test the steady shot issue and give feedback.
