Barry, not life savings. This is money, very little, given to poor people, families with children, for food. SNAP is a government program for food. Someone has stopped poor families from getting FOOD (and health insurance, but that is worthless) and at Christmastime

Its called ransomware for a reason. Once the malware is in it can start rapidly stealing information. Once they have all the sensitive info they usually demand a form crypto in exchange for the info they stole. It happened at my mom's job some years ago. My friend works at community care alliance it also happened there not long ago. Theres been thousands and thousands of cyber security attacks across the country in recent years. There are businesses the government uses that can show them everything you did online or with your phone going back a long time. Interested parties can record everything you say or do around a computer or cell phone. Your phone and computer hear far better than any human ear. Everything you type is recorded and can be accessed. You don't even have to send the message. Everything within this data breach is already accessible to bad actors. We already entered all that information into the system at some point. Even if you completely change your identity online, it won't be long until they match your digital fingerprint. Everywhere you go, everything you do, every penny you spend, who you interact with, where you buy your food, what food you buy; it's all web information corporations use to get the most money they can from every transaction. But yeah, this data breach isn't good either.
