Personal experience- When I was hitting puberty, I unknowingly had Lupus. I missed a ton of school. Probably at 14? Went to juvy. Just a history of missing so much school and put on probation prior. I had typical lupus signs like rash, fever, bruises, swollen ankles and I had lost a ton of weight since being on probation My hair also fell out in the shower after my strip search. My mom ended up getting arrested for my truancy , neglect and child abuse. Over Memorial Day weekend. Juvenile courts don’t have bail, and hers was through that. She was stuck there for 4 nights. Meanwhile, The officer after the booking officer came in, and noticed I was having an absence seizure (lmao, sorry) and called social workers. They decided the er is the best place. I had a ton of fluid in my lungs, at first they thought Lymphoma. X rays diagnosed me with Lupus, that was in a very bad flare up My mom was in jail. She was the only family I had. I couldn’t talk to the only friends I had. I was completely alone with this huge diagnosis She got out and the charges were dropped. I spent 2 months in hospital. I had a kidney transplant two weeks after my 18th birthday. We never received an apology. It was fucking traumatic Even if I was being an asshole and skipping school, it’s not her fault. She’s a single mom working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. What the hell could she do about it..

Just look at the serious issue in DC schools. Some kids are absent up to 40% of the year but still graduate. And cant read or write at a 12th grade level. Then wonder why they cant get a good job. My god daughter had that attitude until I drew an actual picture for her. The entitlement attitude of our young is also a problem. She really expected a good job without qualification or showing she worked hard at school. And in the first 2 months of a job got angry because they wouldn't five her vacation. Come on. I wanted to slap her mother lol. But seriously. People scream that the police in their area dont represent the people who live there yet the people who live there wont apply to the dept or they cant pass the written test. So they can't blame dept for having to hire outside, you have to have police. People screamed there was discrimination in inner city schools from rich kid schools regarding computers so one school (I think it was Bellueh high school ) was outfitted with state of the art computers and new bleachers and football field were demolished to make way for pool and computers (dont recall exact details) but graduation rate and or test scores didnt change. And back in the 79s 80s when police had resident requirement in hiring it cultivated the dirty dozen, drug ring prostitution, using their positions for outside benefit. My point is that people are screaming about things that are certainly important, but its not going to change other problems that imo are worse. Human trafficking which is modern day slavery, child sex crimes. I want to know why people aren't protesting en masse govt buildings about that. Those people dont have a voice and we have to protect them.

Awesome idea. I have also seen people get GED then move on to Associates or Bachelor degree. GED is not a bad idea. Especially if it would get rid of the headache of forcing highschool to care about highschool.

I was a truent kid. I had severe ptsd from early childhood trauma, panic disorder and 2 abusive teachers and it didn't mix for me. Back then I didn't know what disorder I had, all knew it going to school was like torture and my parents didn't understand. I did anything and everything to not go to school during this time. My parents beat me, took away all of my possessions and even offered a lot of things I wanted if I would just go to school but none of that mattered because I wasn't avoiding school because I simply didn't like it. In fact, I got good grades before my panic attacks got really bad. I was put in counseling with a pedophile therapist and when I told on him no one believed me, my own mother continued to go to the same therapist for a year after I told on him. 😒 If a child is truent, chances are it's not because they hate school, I loved school before my panic attacks took over my life. Children are truent because there's something going on with them. Forcing them to school or arresting their parents won't solve the issue. They need to be heard and evaluated by people that actually care about children, not pedophiles. This was in 90s and luckily my parents weren't arrested because I was almost 16 around this time and once I turned 16 I was allowed to avoid school. I ended up seeing a doctor at 19 and getting treated for my panic attacks and I've been OK since then.

It's another thing to claim that she didn't want police to have body cams at all. When I read about this four years ago and saw a video of her laughing about jailing moms to solve a problem of truancy, I couldn't believe it.
